- Reduce chop tension as you ascend. This allows you to extend your range and increase your endurance, because you no longer waste energy fighting your own chops... Less is truly more... :) Air, however, is a whole other story.....
This simple demonstration shows a revelation to my trumpet world. Amazingly, even if I knew this back when I played in the late 70s and early 80s, I would have had to stop playing and learned how to blow the horn all over again. Not sure that I could have pulled this off. I am considering repositioning/shifting my mouthpiece location slightly left or right to possibly achieve a better (more efficient) vibrating surface.
Have you seen Anchor Point? ua-cam.com/video/5iC5fYK9E24/v-deo.html
Morning Lynn. No. I will check out. Currently in studio moving a jazz band 33 album to the digital world recorded my senior year highschool. 1981
Hi Lynn...I do this thing where I take my thumb on my fingering hand and push it in between the 1st and 2nd valves right up against the lead pipe....and I literally push my horn away with that thumb when Im ascending. I think when I do that I THINK Im creating your unfurling . I have come to realize that less is definitely much better!. TY. Great videos!!
watching this three years later on a sunday scared me for a sec
i'm not excatly sure what the ombrechure looks like though
How could anyone give thumbs down to this video? Must be tuba players
Ha! I have my detractors.... So did Maynard..... :)
I KEEP TRYING TRYING TRYING..ITS HARD TO ME..BUT IM STILL TRYING..THANK YOU LYNN
Great advice!
Thank you lynn :)
You have it down to an exact science
So do you place the rim closer to the middle of your lip with the unfurling?
Absolutely..... That way you get a wider horizontal vibration, producing a bigger, more open sound, even with a smaller piece......
Thank you Lynn! You changed my life on September 13, 2018 when you showed me the way by using the xpiece and and xpiece rim. I am now hitting double B's easily and occasional double C - ua-cam.com/video/S6AzzmNuXU0/v-deo.html
How do you switch from normal to Maynard version without taking the mouthpiece off the lips? And does it matter on which notes you switch from normal to Maynard? Thanks.
Think of Protocol engagement as a dynamic continuum, rather than a light switch--on or off. Your chops will partially unfurl, but this takes some practice. The notes where unfurling gradually begins can vary by quite a bit. Depends on the requirements of what you are playing.....
what is that tool you are using and where can i get it?
Here's more info and where to buy...... james-r-new.com/affiliates/lynn-nicholson.html..... XPiece and Reversible Rim....
Hello Lynn. Just found this. Can you please point me to where the photos are, & can you show us how you set up both embouchures so we can see the difference. Thanks!!
