    To be clear, these "trumpet tips" apply most accurately to those of you employing at least some aspects of the MF Protocol. However, all players can benefit in some capacity. The Maynard Ferguson Protocol is NOT the Lynn Protocol. Maynard created the Protocol, not me. I am simply passing on to those interested, the specifics of how Maynard did what he did. There are various ways to play high notes, but there is only one way to fully and accurately emulate Maynard Ferguson's extraordinary upper register sound/facility. Although often rumored otherwise, Maynard knew PRECISELY what he was doing. I feel blessed to have been the direct recipient of Maynard's wonderful insights. I continue to honor Maynard by sharing these insights with you.... vimeo.com/ondemand/31871 vimeo.com/ondemand/31870

    Lynn can you share how much horn rest per playing time us amateurs might consider, I think I’ve been practicing too much without enough rest my playing is not getting better ...someone suggested to practice 9 minutes on the horn then take 9 minutes off...supposedly you can play several hours doing this, I haven’t tried it yet....when Iam practicing I get lost in my music and forget to rest...I am positive I am paying the price for it ( 2 year trumpet player)

      Yes, play a few minutes, then rest a few seems to work best. Allow this to be a variable amount of time, though. Some days you may play for 5 minutes, then rest for 2 minutes. Other days, you may play for 10, then rest for 10. See how it feels and let that be your guide. AND, if your chops are feeling messed up, sometimes it's best to take a day or two completely off the horn..... This can provide a reset, much more valuable than trying to play through a problem...... Less can certainly be more..... :)

    Hello teacher~
    It's so cool.
    What mouthpiece did you play with?

    Hey Lynn, do you do sit ups, crunches, jog, or other aerobics to strengthen abs for compression?

    How much compression is necessary and how much compression is too much to play the high notes? I am a beginner and when I practice to play high notes, I start sweating after 15 minutes or so and I have to activate the air conditioner.

    When reaching high notes, is it okay to place your bottom lip underneath your mouthpiece? Whenever I put my bottom lip under the mouthpiece I can reach a double C and higher, but if I center my lips, then I can only reach an E above the staff.

      Lynn tales about unfurl lips and if you look at Jerome Callet , he make pedal notes with his lower lip out of the mouthpiece and makes lips really unfurl. When you play high notes you might be doing unfurl more and that gives you the range and that uniform sound that Lynn talkes about. But stick to what works, do not think more than nessesary. Check out Dan Burnham, he is working on MF protocol and uses Lynn as an inspirator and mentor. Take care.

    Lynn, if you get a lot of tension and veins popping out in the neck, is that an indicator something is wrong?

    • @lynn95441
      @lynn95441  7 років тому +1

      Did you ever see a picture of Maynard, even with a 19 hole in his mouthpiece? I would say he is taking the compression thing to the extreme..... :)

      Lynn, looking at some photos, it looks like his neck expands, but i don't see veins protruding

    • @lynn95441
      @lynn95441  7 років тому +1

      Everyone is a bit different. I'm very thin, for example, so my veins are more apparent..... :)

      Lynn Nicholson you look great to me, and of course sound great.. I was thinking of myself - my jugular really sticks out and i tend to grunt.
