Fun fact: Shiggy's family died the way they treated him.
His dog died just being there for him (also the dog dying first symbolizes his innocence dying);
his sister died running away from the problem when it got complicated;
his grandparents died watching from the sidelines, not interfering;
his mother died trying to calm him down and comfort him;
his father died hurting him and trying to solve the problem using violence
Never realized that! nice catch
Woah thisss
My fav thing from this episode
That episode fucked me up the first time I saw it. It made me wanna see more of kids getting their quirk for the first time. I think they mention how present mic messed up his doctors hearing or something
No he did not kill them on purpose the only one he killed on purpose was his father. I remember when this chapter first came out Horikoshi said not to take older Shigirakis narration so seriously because he's looking back in this memory so obviously his mindset is not the same as when he was a child. Shigiraki is thinking about how he might have felt that doesn't mean that's how he actually felt when it happend. He stated Shigiraki was reaching out for help.
We can also see this in the fact that his hair literally turned gray because of how terrifying it was.
definitely one of the best episodes in the series, villains aren't born villains, villains are always influenced by something
Technically not always true! Prime examples being muscular and likely Moonfish as well, they kinda just want to kill
@@tiredbutsatisfied I agree that they lack motivation or goals but that doesn't mean they lack origins. Maybe something influenced them too in their childhoods, and that includes quirks. One can say that a lethal quirk counts as "being born a villain" but in my eyes a quirk like Toga's can be managed with counseling. So Toga, Tomura, Moonfish, and Muscular more than likely would have turned out differently if raised differently. And we don't know enough to disprove that.
@@ChrispyCulture 100%! I truly do believe characters like Toga would’ve turned out way different if they where treated right! That’s why I only mentioned Muscular and Moonfish 😅
@@tiredbutsatisfied But "nurture over nature" should apply to everyone, we know nothing about their past and nobody is born insane
@@ChrispyCulture agreed! I was just trying to say they (so far from what we’ve seen) seemed to have no influence but obviously without any backstory shared I am probably very wrong
This in my opinion is probably the darkest backstory I’ve seen in shonen. The fact that he’s a little kid accidentally killing his family is so tragic. Also the fact that they show everyone dying brutal deaths rather than just telling us really hits home how screwed up his past was.
Trafalgar Law from One Piece too 👆A kid who lost his whole family and all his friends in a whole country genocide, having seen all their bodies, then escaping it by hiding among corpses from the government, while knowing he doesn’t have much time left to live
And then the only person who supported him and wanted him to live, and one that was the reason he survived gets killed right in front of him once again
For sure, storylines with children accidently causing deaths of people are horrifying. I can't imagine the emotional trauma on an adult let alone a child.
This is one of the darkest episodes of the show....and it never disappoints!
Horikoshi has said that he's always wanted to go darker with MHA, even as far back as the training camp arc. And this episode/arc is basically the culmination of that desire. The anime typically does a form of censorship with Shigaraki's quirk. Back in S1, we saw that he decayed Aizawa's elbow until he reached muscle. But every instance after, it was less of a breakdown and more of turning to stone and crumbling. This episode still had a bit of the stone aspect but it also captured the horror of the manga by still showing the chunks.
I think it's really tragic how things turned out. Nana knew that AFO was likely going to take her out. So she hid her son away in an attempt to keep her family safe. But because she vanished without a trace and very little explanation, Kotaro didn't understand. Not to mention, he was a child. So he grew up with that regret and sadness until it eventually became hate. But instead of dealing with his emotions, he bottled it up and took it out on his children. In the manga, we actually see him hit Tenko so hard that he physically falls over. And then he hits him again. So, bit of anime Censorship.
Tenko wanted to be a hero. But his dad rejected him, and his family didn't exactly help. They just told him not to cry. And when they finally did step up, it was too late. The house was destroyed, family and all. He says the itch went away. We see Tenko itch after this incident however. So I wonder if the itch is his quirk quite literally begging him to destroy something he doesn't like. Or if it's more of an anxiety thing. Where he starts itching whenever he's uncomfortable.
Either way, Nana's attempt to protect her family from AFO actually ended up pushing them right into his hands. The act of good ended up creating the successor to the Ultimate Evil.
The music when he was decaying his dog and sister really made me a bit uncomfy watching a show for the first time in quite a while, and the fact that they showed us that he doesnt turn people to dust, he literally decays their bodies was the cherry on the top for me, this was one of my favourite eposides of the season (im assuming they do the dust to make the anime less graphic?)
"Not the puppy" that's it, that's the fandom 😭
I've seen this episode god knows how many times and it still gives me goose bumps when I see the flashback. Such a sad origin story.
16:00 he didnt realise yet about his power
I remember thinking Shigaraki's backstory was sad. The dog and his sister I don't think he meant to kill. But he said "I hate them all" right before he crumbled his mother and grandparents. I kind of look at it as Shigaraki had an unfortunate quirk manifest at an unfortunate and as you have seen emotions can effect quirks. His dad was a bad dad dealing with his own issues from his mother leaving him but I don't think he deserved to die. I will say that his death was a consequence of his own actions
Lmao 6:11
Gotta give love to the OST, the show overall but honestly this MVA arc music is equally chilling/tragic
Power outage in my neighborhood 14 minutes ago, will take an hour to turn back on.
