One of the drawings you showed in the beginning with spikes coming out of the helmet and shoulders reminds me of the Worker of Secrets from the original Infinity Blade 3 game. If you ever draw sick art draw stuff from that game, ngl, I would 100% pay for it. The game is no longer available but I loved it a lot so seeing anyone make some drawings of some of it’s content would be hype.
@@slenderdragon3442 Interesting! Just checked the Worker of Secrets and they look PRETTY COOL. I might draw one of these in the future😆 Thank you for telling me and thanks for commenting!🤩

I find using historically accurate armour and weapons really gives a unique dark fantasy feel. I particularly like renaissance gothic and Italian armour.
It does have a dark fantasy feel to it. Can't believe this was real armor that existed hundreds of years ago.😲 This would be great for reference. Thanks for sharing and commenting🤩
@@Whalecoffee That's because dark fantasy borrows a lot from realistic armour. They just mix and match historically accurate pieces from across many centuries and mixing it with more simplistic fantasy designs instead of picking a specific era or region like what I do. Check out Arms and Armour of the Late Middle Ages. I like to use it as my reference.
@@blackroseillustrations6484the early modern period also has some incredible armor. A lot of what people think of as medieval plate armor is actually from the 16th and even 17th century.

the foot armour (or sabatons) wouldnt be just two pieces as that would restrict movement in the feet, rather they would consist of many more pieces that allow flexibility in the feet
i dont usually draw armors, but you probably know this,, shading is very important when it comes to armor/armor shapes,, btw is your prof pic your art?
@@TpDgreat yeah, currently working on becoming better at shading glass, metal and other very reflective surfaces. Alot of fun! And yes, the among us guy in a hat and blonde wig is indeed my art. :9
Just a small thing I notice, I’m not a history or armor expert by any means, but I think most armor is attached through “rivets” instead of bolts. Bolts would be screwed together while rivets are hammered flat
You and this community is so wholesome and I’m here for it. Your videos are great. Getting out my sketch book after years. I can’t resist this stuff. I just recently finished reading the hobbit, lotr, and the silmarilion and now onto a song of ice and fire. Platniumed Elden ring too lmao

Would love to see a follow up video showing how to draw those cool ass, pipe smoking wizards. Love the easy to follow, informative style of your vids. Keep it up!
One piece that many artists get wrong is the breastplate and lower body connection. Real breastplate comes down only to the waist (so one can bend forward and turn on horseback). The lower torso, including the hips, is protected by a kind of plate-skirt (faulds). Many fantasy armors even lack that piece. For extra points you can draw another plate piece (the plackart), that goes below the breastplate and connects to the skirt. And the skirt sometimes has tassets attached for added thigh protection.

Thank you! I draw from reference I find on Pinterest. I tend to find realistic-looking reference. I narrow down the specific style of reference I want by repeatedly searching related images. Hope this helps😊
1st of all this is dark souls inspired arts lol XD, no i mean yes this are good tips,, sometimes i find myself encountering this problem were i just want to show every details of the armor which leads to sacrificing the atmosphere and vibe in exchange of details. base on my limited experience in drawing i discovered that when it comes to armors shading is the key and the most important part. it helps alot on shapes and the different angles
I figured out my preference of knights was dark souls through your comment xD You are so right when it comes to the details. I gotta practice the ability to look at the tree and the forest at the same time. Multitasking is hard. Shading is pretty much everything for armor, especially for creating that shiny metalic texture. I'm not the best at shading, so I think there was a lack of emphasis on that part. Planning on practicing shading, and maybe make a video on it soon! Thanks for commenting :))
One method I use for chainmail to make it more visually appealing is using ‘c’ over and over again, then layering it over another layer of backward ‘c’s and so on. It gives the idea of links overlapping without all of the detail. It can also be paired with shading to look even better. cccccccccccccccccccccc
