Coolio had a big hit sampling this for his Fantastic Voyage song. RIP Coolio. One of the guys who joined after this album is the father of Ty Dolla Sign. I've heard of him for some reason.
Wore this song out on my cassette player in my car back in the day. Her face smiling, and her reaction is exactly how everyone has always felt every time they ever hear this song. I’m 59 years old and it is one of my all-time favorite songs.
Just a great reaction. This is still a playlist song for every Funky occasion since the 80's. You two are so adorable together but you have to get a hold of some Con Funk Shun, that was the group. You scratch the surface with "Loves Train", then listen to "Straight from the Heart", "Chase Me", "All Up To You" , "Got To Be Enough" you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't get with the groove. Especially if you like true R&B and Funk.

Preeminent funk/soul band Lakeside released their first album in the late seventies 1978). Their first single, “It’s All The Way Live” planted their flag firmly in the Land of Funk. This was an incredible fertile period in Black musical creation, because there was soooo much competition. At the time, practically every R&B based band was developing their own funk formula. We witnessed the emergence of such bands as: Cameo; The BarKays; Earth, Wind & Fire; Brick; The Commodores; Slave; Con Funk Shun; etc., etc. ALL of them developing their own funk formulas-which would challenge the gold-standard crown held by Parliament/Funkadelic. Lakeside was somewhat unique, because they had four (4!) lead vocalists; giving them remarkable versatility. Additionally, their visual presentation was very much “concept driven”. They would dress as pirates, (seen here), cowboys, and…federal agents, (you should check out their jam “Raid”). Their catalogue is well worth exploring!! p.s. The principal lead vocalist here is Mark Woods. He has a low-end gospel growl that comes straight out of the Black church; very similar to The Temptations vocalist Dennis Edwards.
I was listening to some old school jams and I thought you might like these as well. "Do It ('Til You're Satisfied)" and "Express" by B.T. Express. "Firecracker" by Mass Production, "Don't Look Any Further" By Dennis Edwards Ft. Siedah Garrett and "Walking Into Sunshine" by Central Line. For More Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan "Do You Love What You Feel", "Hollywood" and "Sweet Thing". More Chaka Khan "What Cha' Gonna Do for Me". There is also a great jam by Marvin Gaye "Got To Give It Up' the full Pt. 1&2 version is Long but worth it. You can listen to just Pt. 1 which was the version played on the radio back in 1977. Just some more for you.
"Pimp Pirates"! I almost fell out of my chair 🤣 Thanks for that Amber. If you want some raw, unmitigaed FUNK, you must listen to George Duke's "Dukey Stick"
Prince does a cover of this within a medley of songs from a performance at the LA Forum. I highly recommend checking that out. It’s Play That Funky Music/Hollywood Swinging/Fantastic Voyage. It’s super funky and super fun.
Absolutely! I was checking to see if anyone would mention Prince's epic medley. I think I remember reading somewhere it was his third encore after a 3 hr concert. Truly a must-see. Longer than the usual videos people react to, but worth every single second.
I live near a park where people play music at events all the time. I was sitting out on my patio and I was kinda annoyed at the music, until they played this song. Love it!
I saw them in a hole in the wall club about 30 years ago and they brought down the house The lead singer was jamming so hard he split his pants Absolutely the funkiest band ever
The lead singer's name is Mark Woods Jr but he was voted out of the band because he became gready but they have a great new replacement and you should check them out on UA-cam. They had several number one hits from the 70's through the late 80's. You should check out " It's all the way live" , " Your wish is my command " Say yes" , " Raid" , Rough riders. But there are too many his to mention. Lakeside is a well respected band who changed the landscape of FUNK.
I’m white. 55 years old. In the late 1970s and early 1980s us kids would be delivered to the local skating rink by our parent(s) from about 6pm to midnight and this was everyone’s favorite song to skate to lol.
My friend (who introduced me to rap) and I used to set up his boombox next to my hoop and shoot baskets and play one-on-one all day to this music. Love it Great memories.

Especially if you like true R&B and Funk.
Good morning guys, try Lakeside "It's All the way Live and Raid and they have a wonderful ballad Say Yes, and since you are looking for Funk try Slave, Steal Your Heart, Wait for me, Snapshot and Steve Arrington's of Slave's Nobody Can Be You! Have a wonderful week! 🌅🍁☕🍩🎼👍😎☮️
If you cover Funk, you MUST do a reaction to Lipps Inc "Funky Town". Iconic Funk classic!
We witnessed the emergence of such bands as:
Cameo; The BarKays; Earth, Wind & Fire; Brick; The Commodores;
Slave; Con Funk Shun; etc., etc.
I know you guys are Beatles fans. Lakeside cover the Beatles I want to hold your hand. And made it so soulful. I think you will really like it.
Oh I have to hunt this down
Found it OMG this is awesome!
@@michellec2514 I’m so glad you found it. I watch it all the time when I need some cheering up. It’s awesome for the boots alone 😂
@@JJlovesPrince now I'm going down a rabbit hole of his videos and loving every minute lol
This was FUN!!
I live near a park where people play music at events all the time. I was sitting out on my patio and I was kinda annoyed at the music, until they played this song. Love it!
Another one of those funky bands that had us grooving! Oh yeah!
I saw them in a hole in the wall club about 30 years ago and they brought down the house
The lead singer was jamming so hard he split his pants
Absolutely the funkiest band ever
One of my first concerts featuring Lakeside, Shalamar, the Whispers, Carrie Lucas all in one concert!
Man I wish I could be you and hear this amazing music for the first time again!
LAKESIDE IS WHAT"S UP! This is definitely a get up on your feet and groove out! ❤🔥
My friend (who introduced me to rap) and I used to set up his boombox next to my hoop and shoot baskets and play one-on-one all day to this music. Love it Great memories.
Soon as I saw this today I couldn't wait to see the look on Jay's face when he heard those opening funky licks. Y'all didn't disappoint.😊 I was never a disco fan but this song was a def exception.
They were all entertainers and fashion trend setters but back then I watched it as- everyone from every walk of life can groove to the music aboard the fun ship, even pirates will behave and jump into the beat; became a world wide (time-out) dance party song that got everyone on the floor (dance or skate floor).
