Parliament or otherwise known as P-Funk and Parliament Funkadelic started in my town of Plainfield, NJ! George Clinton still stops by to visit ... and he looks like an older businessman these days. They were the FUNKiest funk around. Believe it or not, many of the musicians received advanced music education at places like Julliard and Berkeley School of Music. Might I suggest 'Atomic Dog' or 'Give Up the Funk/Tear the Roof Off' The video of 'Atomic Dog' is fine, but look for live performance videos of the other songs! They actually started out as a doo-wop group in the late 50s at a barbershop here in town.

@@If6turnsouttobe9 Lol, I actually went back and watched the beginning again to see if I'd missed that vocal line before she said it. Knowing the trials and tribulations of YT music reactors, though, I'd guess they either started or fully did their reaction and then realized there was a technical difficulty (forgot to start the recording, forgot to turn on the mic, internet stuttered, computer crashed, first version of the song they picked had horrible sound quality, kids ran into the room with an issue that needed immediate solving, or whatever) and so they "recreated" the reaction in part or in full. Like you, I don't really care as I just enjoy their vibe but, tbh, I prefer when reactors are open about that sort of thing and just say, "Hey, we already started the reaction and then realized it didn't record any of our audio so we've already heard the first part of this..." or whatever. It increases viewers' trust rather than dropping a little question mark onto the authenticity of the reactions.
BTW, not saying I don't think they're reactions are authentic. They're always very good about calling out when one or the other of them already knows a song beforehand. But I know some YT-ers feel like they have to cover up false starts or technical glitches and, especially with these two, I don't think that kind of thing is necessary. It's the realness that we all love even when that realness is "We just recorded our entire first-time reaction to this... and then realized that the mic wasn't on, so this is *technically* our second time hearing it. Whoopsie!"). :)

“Funkadelic” you say? That’s the name of this band and they coined the term in the ‘60s. Parliment was the more mainstream version of this outfit (think doo-wop/Motown type stuff). Funkadelic grew out of that as a way to do more outrageous and funky music. Eventually the distinctions between the two diminished and they became known as “Parliment/Funkadelic”, or even more commonly “P-Funk”. And if you hear shades of James Brown and the Ohio Players in this song, there are many good reasons why-mostly band members! George Clinton definitely changed the world of music!

Zapp's first album was produced by George Clinton, the guy in the ski goggles and white mink - so you definitely hear the connection. There is also a connection to Dee-Lite Groove is in the Heart, Bootsy Collins (former James Brown bassist) is part of the Funkadelic mob as well. George created a huge cast of characters (hence the nose on Sir Nose-Devoidoffunk whom you noticed) developed stories for many of the albums, cast them in Sci Fi scenarios and just went wild. The little noises you point out are from the great Bernie Worrell, who had to play four seperate Moog synths to produce the sounds live. I heard Parliament-Funkadelic when I was nine, beaming out of Detroit on the faint radio waves that reached me in Flint. I didn't know who the band was but 1) had never heard anything like it 2) LOVED it. And something in the back of my mind said "I wonder if this could be that crazy band who isnt a band but is also sometimes two bands...? " Pfunk was kind of a rumor in those days, the craziest things done on stage etc etc. And yes, by the way, George and them WERE kind of black hippies that were psychedelic. They have released totally psychedelic albums, were too hard rock for black audiences, too black for white audiences, George just stuck to his inspirations and invented his own sound universe and is now revered for it. This is the ORIGINAL stuff, from totally original artists. You will find George Clinton linked to Red Hot Chili Peppers, and hey, you love classic guitar solos, check out Funkadelic's Maggot Brain - THE classic psychedelic guitar solo (the whole song is a solo) played by the late, great, great Eddie Hazel (lives in my heart, and many others) Happy exploring the P Funkiverse!

"They're so funkadelic" is hilarious. In fact they are.... Funkadelic, in spite of the name, was more of a rock band, with amazing electric guitarists and such (still very funky, often); where Parliament is more the funk (with horns) incarnation. They were on different labels, marketed differently, same band. You should listen to some Funkadelic. I think for very funky but hard rocking (with insane guitar solos), try "Comin' Round the Mountain". They had a bunch of songs that were more popular, but that's where I'd start.
