The Poke Brothers of Hawaii | Street Food Icons

- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- This was filmed many months before COVID-19.
Hidden away in the back of Chinatown’s Kekaulike market you will find the freshest and tastiest poke spot in Honolulu, Hawaii. Brothers Junichiro and Ryojiro Tsuchiya took what they learned in Japan as fishmongers and opened up a poké stall, aptly named Maguro Brothers. They visit the local fish market every morning to pick out the best fresh fish, used to serve up super fresh sashimi, grilled fish, and ahi poke over rice.
This was filmed before the coronavirus pandemic.

"Just keep going.
If you need to do, do."
Pretty powerful words rhere.
Simple, but strong.
@@ljdoff need to start doing 80 hour work weeks in America to keep up with this work ethic.
😄❤️😄❤️
Rerry buetriful. ( japanese accent)
Hawaii also has another saying:
If can, can. If no can, still can.
🤣
Their humility is beautiful..
Hubris is not a typical trait among the Japanese people.
agree
They will eat all the tuna
farm time
Slime ball
I miss Maguro Bro’s poke bowls. I used to have takeout at their Chinatown location during lunch. At first I was skeptical about their food cause of the location, but boy was I wrong. The fish is always fresh and well prepared. My favorite is mixed poke bowl - spicy ahi and shiso ahi. This is the only place that I trust to eat raw fish in Honolulu’s Chinatown. Both Jun and Ryo are very friendly. Great customer service even when when they are busy. Ryu always waved and say hello/hi whenever he see me. Thank you Jim and Ryo for their good, fresh, and affordable poke and sashimi. 😋
I first read puke bowl 🤣🤣🤣🤣
yeah i hear you. that meat market is not the most clean looking. but i never had problems.
I know I miss it too
Lol yeah I walking there you’re like where Am I going
@Thejax2234 They are still there at their Waikiki and Chinatown locations. I stop going to their Chinatown location after I left my job in downtown.
Don't count the hours, if you need to do it just do it.
Yes.
Sensei do poke bowl in your next video! Godbless
You've left your anime cave. Now you're just a normie ;_;
Awesome work ethic! Nice!
That’s a very Asian thing.
words of wisdom
5:36 “We don’t count, just go. If we need to do, just do.” Powerful stuff 🙏🏽
If you’re wondering if they are as nice as they seem - the answer is ‘yes’. Also, it’s so good! I live out on the west side and drive to town just to have their misoyaki salmon.
thanks!
How is their business fairing with the pandemic? I hope they are both doing okay.
@@Oro-video no they actually have a lot of people
That’s why they’re business thrives, only the best produce, their work ethics are very strong, and they’re so different which is why it works. May them and their business be blessed with many more decades to come🙏🏾😊
Good hearted brothers. No air just feet planted firmly on the ground thus their HUGE success. Beautiful.
I'm just gonna cry at the corner while eating canned tuna 😭
Tc
Get the pouch tun bruh. It comes in favors and also try the pouched salmon. These are great in salads
Lol
@Struffle monst 😭
😫😓😨😰😭😭😭😭😭😭
These guys are absolutely class, so humble, kind, positive, and passionate about their craft. Would love to hang out and have a nice talk with them
Been there. Most humble and friendly people. Amazing food.
Poke is the greatest invention ever made
At foodland they have poke too
Just got back home from Honolulu Hawaii and me and my wife are very open minded when it comes to food. We tried everything you can think of but the plates from maguro bros took the price as the best thing we tried. We saw the chef there and they were extremely polite like most Japanese people are. Mahalo!
What a great partnership between brothers
The whole time, he was working, talking and doing everything with a beautiful smile.
Thank you for posting Maguro Bros!!! Its what I've been looking for...a fresh fish place! No frills, no heavy creams...just best fish goodness from humble ppl.
The 123 people who took the time to thumbs down this video are in dire need of sympathy. This is a lovely snippet of people living a life that not only is of those who have a true craft, but those who are sharing it and making a living doing so. Thank you.

You will not be disappointed with Maguro Brothers. Poke is high end! Their cooked fish regardless oh how it's cooked and seasoned are sensational. 5 stars for sure!
Only locals will know what that guys ment by "broke da mouth" 😂😂
Missed opportunity for Super Maguro Bros.
Well done sir!
You can see how focused and serious he is when competing for the tuna fish he wants at the auction!
Beautiful brothers. This is how it should be, man. Team up with your fam...your good friends, go out there and just DO what you love.
Two brothers who enjoy making people happy. Happy to have them in here in Hawaii.
Their smiles say a lot about their passion for their work
Damn did he say $4,000 for those 2 tunas?! Wow.
Uriel Garibay tuna live for a long time and are over fished 😭
Probably returned like $8,000 too.
I vote we replace U.S. holiday main courses (ham, turkey) with a giant tuna
@@urielgaribay2880 they're critically endangered in many places buddy, not to mention high in mercury. Also, $4000 is nothing for tuna, every year one or two bluefin tuna end up being auctioned for millions of dollars.
That's not too bad, considering it costs $1000 or $2000 to buy an entire cow at auction. So basically 1 tuna is the same cost as 1 cow.
THIS is what a poke bowl should look like
These guys are so freaking happy and I love it.
Still the best fish Chirashi bowls I’ve ever had till this day.
Their passion and work history alone makes them the best
Their chu-toro donburi with king salmon makes all my dreams come true. One of my last meals before I moved away.
My wife and I went to their locations back in March 2019. The salmon belly was phenomenal.
I love Maguro Bros! Best fresh poke hands down. 😋
Japanese are really hard working people!!
One of the best hidden gems on Oahu. Love going there, awesome to see them featured!
They seem so happy and down to earth! Best thing is they appear to love their job, which in turn improves their service and food!
“If I can use the local parlance; Broke the Mouth” *says it in the most HAOLE voice ever!!! 🤣🤣🤣....bruddah, if you gone talk like one local gotta say ‘broke da mouf’....🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Bada you?
Or broke da mout'
Kanak attak!
Awesome Poke in Chinatown. Those people won the lottery.
"If we need to do - do."
There's my motivational speech for the day!
100% legit! My favorite place on the island. Met those guys 6 years ago, so happy for their success. Amazing job!
I lived on Oahu for a year and this was the best fish I ate the whole time, by far!
These men are an inspiration.
They are really passionate on what they're doing, and also the bromance is real!
They’re related...
@@stillalivegettingbetter2942 bro(ther)mance
@@stillalivegettingbetter2942 I know that lol but I admire the fact they get along with each other at work and share the same passion.
My FAVORITE poke spot.

Just... take all my money and give me that delicious food.
The most AMAZING food and such humble guys! Maguro Bros is always the first stop as soon as my plane lands...and several more times before returning to mainland.
They're humble, hard working and so adorable!!!! I can't wait for the pandemic to end so I can travwl to support them!
Man I miss my hometown proud to be a Japanese Hawaiian kid from Honolulu!!!
I love that they love what they do. It makes the food taste better.
I would stop here since Chinatown was on the way home to treat myself back during my undergrad years
The guys are super nice and sweet
I ate at Maguro Bros. When it was literally A HOLE IN THE WALL in the side of a trailer home outside of waikiki. First place I ever had authentic Hawaiian poke. So amazing to see them here.
gotta love unko talking pidgin at 2:25 XD
you know its good when the owner goes and gets the fish that morning!!
Wish this video was longer
When you really enjoy what you are doing, it is never work. These guys are awesome
Had the pleasure of actually visiting after watching this video. It was really as good as I imagined!
Visited both locations during our trip in 2019. Both times the food tasted great. Hands down the best poke I've had in North America. Will definitely visit again.
I ate at this place and I can’t recommended enough it’s very good a must go if you visit Hawaii or live here try the miso salmon belly!!!!!!
i don’t even like tuna, but i liked this video and the brothers passion.
Beautiful. Love their humility, you can tell they are very genuine and love what they do
Y'all should cover the famous "Tamale Guy" of Chicago. He's about to open a restaurant after vending from a cooler for decades.
Mouth watering.
they're so cheerful
Love them! It's clear that they are living so free and joyfully 😄 more blessings to maguro bros 🙏🏼
finally another episode of street food icons! thanks munchies!
As a Honolulu local, Maguro Brothers is authentic! It’s doesn’t get much more small business than them! Which reminds me, I should get take-out and support especially during covid.
👏👏👏👏 this was special! Fantastic highlight on these awesome guys !
Very inspiring video of the two brothers working long hours together. The food is so fresh and looks delicious. Thank you.
I love Hawaii and I love Poke!
Feeling super lucky to have tried this and am so impressed how hard they work! Basically they are between Chinatown and Waikiki all day 6 days a week!!!

One of the reasons why Hawaii is the healthiest state in America.
I love everything about this. I wish the best for theses two guys.
As someone who grew up on the mainland, poke is the first local food I encountered during my college days at UH.
Im lucky to watch this video while eating poke
Perfect! This my first stop off the plane.
