I've been binge-watching Dining on a Dime for a bit now and I must say; Jucas has got to be one of the most genuinely kind and charming hosts on UA-cam. Thanks, Eater.
I grew up right across the street In the white apartment building in that industrial area. I miss Alicia’s so much! I now live in the mainland and miss home so much! Thanks for the nostalgia!
I stumbled upon this place when I was in Hawaii. And I can never forget it. Poke in California does not even compare. I can't wait to go back and have some more
Lucas you are eating the crab all wrong. You don't use chop sticks or fork or spoon. You put it in your mouth and suck the meat out as you bite down and pull the crab out of your mouth. That way all the meat gets scraped out into your mouth. It's an art to eating raw crab lol. I've been going to Alicia's for over 30 years and Leonard was a young man lol. You have to try their plate lunches. Sooooo good! Get the mixed plate with roast pork, prime rib, rice, potatoe salad, poke and kimchi. After you eat that, go find a nice shady tree and go into what we in Hawaii call Polynesian Paralysis.
Banana bread is best with cold butter and no nuts. I love walnuts and pecans, just not in my bread. Not in my brownies either. Thank you, Lucas, for being so diplomatic.
I could drop dead in Alicia's and totally be happy amongst all the poke varieties. Alicia's is a gem in Kalihi. Oh, careful about sitting in the park to enjoy your Alicia's goodies. There's lotsa flies!!! :D
Thanks guys, for showing all the awesome food we have here! Don't mean to be a smartass, Lucas, but masago and tobiko are roe from two different fish (though they generally taste the same). Also, they add much more than just texture - they have a very briney, almost alcohol-y taste.
I went to Hawaii a could months ago and tried to go there.. Sadly there was a fire and remodeling.. But they still had a little to go poke spot.. The crab poke was amazing.. But the best place for poke is foodland
I love Alicia Market their poke is pretty hard to beat. But I love going there for their Chinese roast plates which is #1 on the island! Some of my favorite poke spots on the island is Tamuras with their king crab garlic poke. Fresh catch poke shop and Ono seafoods which has a bit of an asian flare to their style of poke which is so good!! And if I want some great poke on a budget, foodland supermarket has great cheap options which is hard to beat!!
It seems like whenever i hear about Hawaii, i hear about how locals don't like tourists... And they call them names and want them to get off the islands, etc etc.... But everyone in this video seemed really nice
Locals are extremely nice. They don't really like tourism and the culture it's created, but they also understand it makes their economy thrive. And I've never met a Hawaiin who was unkind to any visitor. They're cool with people and extremely laid back, just gotta socialize with them.
@Catalina Tran I guess it must depend who you talk to yea? I'd imagine anyone who relies on tourism to make money isn't going to diss tourists. And most tourists interact with people who deal with tourism a lot and helps their business. But I'd imagine a lot of other people probably aren't a fan of the development and changes tourism brought.
Actually, I remember when they built a Costco on an island while I was there, a lot of locals were talking shit about tourism and causing land development like this.
woohooo !!! finally POKE!! I've been waiting for this video for more than a month! but .. it's that means you guys didn't make video on kahuku superrette poke?
The first one you tasted was Masago (Capelin eggs)/wasabi poke' not Tobiko (Flying-fish eggs)/wasabi poke'. The second was Salmon Ponzu poke' not salmon/shoyu poke'. The tartness comes from the lemon juice in the ponzu sauce used (not vinegar). Amen to nuts in banana bread, not the same without them. Macadamia nuts the best but walnuts work in a pinch. I once had a bunch of crab poke' put me in the hospital for several days. Scary but delicious.
I've been binge-watching Dining on a Dime for a bit now and I must say; Jucas has got to be one of the most genuinely kind and charming hosts on UA-cam. Thanks, Eater.

Lucas is the reason I subscribed to this channel.
I'm not sure why, but it's always a treat hearing Lucas swear.
(Even if it is bleeped out)
lucas and nick are the only reason why i watch eater
The char siu at Alicia's is heavenly. Hell everything there is great.
Yeah eff that, nuts go in banana bread!! #preach 🙌🏼
hyuneeEats no, banana bread and banana NUT bread are 2 different things.
I subscribed and liked just for the nuts in banana bread
That poke looks scrumptious! But why does it seem that it needs rice? For some reason it makes me crave steamed rice!
Yup. You know it.
rice is good but with beer or cocktails is better havin wit rice would be to heavy.. poke is more for pupus ( appetizers }
We, islanders, can’t eat Poke or Sashimi without rice.
Depends, if you’re drinking then it’s great by itself as pupus (appetizer) but as a meal you can’t beat a poke bowl over a hot bed of white rice
Poke + Onigiri = Winning Combination.
I like the way he describes the food.
Lucas is the best. I love watching his episodes. Been rematching them the last few days. Could listen to him talk about food 24/7
Mark wiens and Lucas Peterson are the best food reviewers hands down!!!
Yeah but this guy doesn't do that creepy smile (even though I do like Mark's videos)
I love his commentary!!!
Thank U Eater and Lucas ..I'm Always Educated from All the Food History..the more I want to try it!!!❤😍
he is so chill and laid back person
What a wondeful type of guy the butcher seems to be
we need more people like him in the world
I waited and waited so long for this video! Glad to see you choose Alicia's their poke is fantastic, really makes me miss home!
San Diego, please take note. Stop the sauceless, topping-induced poke!
For some reason I missed this episode, but as if I could not love Lucas more, there he goes and shows up with a Speed Racer shirt on, amazeballs!
You earned much respect with the nuts in the banana bread stand.
Lucas vid right as I'm going to bed ^^ Thanks eater for ensuring I end the day happy
Yo Lucas you forgot to grab the roast pork and charsiu which they are also known for!
Roast pork used to be good, but now... eh...
Great video as always

Absolutely Fantastic. So Ono 🌸👍 Mahalo Nui Loa 😎✈️👍✅
Lucas, is the bomb.
Kalihi, the most diversified city on Oahu which makes for great tasting foods. A hidden gem which few even find on a map.
We agree! We ate so many delicious foods in Kalihi
Philip De Franco is so good doing these eatery videos
Poke is huge atm in Australia. Would love to try the crab poke one day.
Totally agree about the nuts in banana bread.
Thank God I'm eating while watching this
THE SHIRT!!!!
Lookin good in that speed racer t-shirt lucas!
Loving all the Hawaii food tour Eats!!!!🤗
Cool Speed Racer t-shirt, Lucas!
OMG THIS PLACE. I make special trips to go here for the roast pig and prime rib lol. I get my poke from tamuras.
"Fuck that! Nuts go in banana bread." took my love of Dining on a Dime to a whole new level. 😂
omg, this is Poke heaven, i never tried poke, but i know I would love it.
Thanks guys, for showing all the awesome food we have here! Don't mean to be a smartass, Lucas, but masago and tobiko are roe from two different fish (though they generally taste the same). Also, they add much more than just texture - they have a very briney, almost alcohol-y taste.
I love Alicia's Market! Ono grindz
love the episode and love the shirt
I am 100% with you Lucas, banana bread deserves to have nuts, the more the merrier.
Raw Crab Poke seems a lot like one of my favorite korean side dishes (GeJang). You can find it in any korean super market. Try it, it's delicious!
I'm 100% on board with Lucas on the banana bread with walnuts hype train
yes to the crab poke, I loved it when I was there!
I went to Hawaii a could months ago and tried to go there.. Sadly there was a fire and remodeling.. But they still had a little to go poke spot.. The crab poke was amazing.. But the best place for poke is foodland
that is incredible. mad drooling over here :P
Nice video. I wish you had also visited Tamura's Market on Kamehameha Highway. The poke there is amazing.
Mark Wiens did..
I really enjoy watching Lucas eat. However, I would love to see him in one video where he is dressed up.
Solid episode!
I love nut in banana bread too!!!
That crabs look so good.
i agree, nuts are a required banana bread ingredient in my mind. this is important.
Lucas you ever considered taking this show to the UK?
really good good tips..
I love Alicia Market their poke is pretty hard to beat. But I love going there for their Chinese roast plates which is #1 on the island! Saw your bit Lucas in Westworld!
That is a dope shirt Lucas, swing one over here!
Hi Lucas, saw you on Westworld today.
I went here three years ago and had the roast pork/poke/rice combo. It was damn good
i've been waiting for this
Can't agree more on the banana bread!Nuts BELONG on it!
I love nuts and dried cherries or raisins in my banana bread,
I see Lucas, I click play.
Thanks Lucas for coming to Hawaii. I'm liking your videos. i'm in Mexico city. Maybe you should come here too?
It seems like whenever i hear about Hawaii, i hear about how locals don't like tourists... And they call them names and want them to get off the islands, etc etc.... But everyone in this video seemed really nice

We were greeted very warmly with the aloha spirit everywhere we visited!
Sankofa NYC, experiences may vary. I was there for 3 years, some were nice while others expressed bluntly how they do not like tourist.
@Catalina Tran I guess it must depend who you talk to yea? I'd imagine anyone who relies on tourism to make money isn't going to diss tourists. Lucas needs his own channel
Gotta agree. I need nuts in my banana bread. The poke looked really good.
Damn that looks good!!
Id like to try that someday
Hey Lucas! All that empty space next to you on the pier?? Wish I was there... 😘
when will u guys go to Helena's?
Ono Seafood in the Kaimuku area. Or poke with pipikaula for some surf and turf action.
I like Safeway limu poki and Tamashiro Market poke.
woohooo !!! finally POKE!! I've been waiting for this video for more than a month! but .. it's that means you guys didn't make video on kahuku superrette poke?
I think I'll try that. Thanks!
That brofist guy haha
Must point it out every time, Lucas holds his chopsticks better than most native Asians

Man how much I miss some good poké 😢
blob blobby - no accent mark on the "e"
Gotta love how the guy tells him it’s masago, he orders masago, and in the explanation he calls it tobiko. Also, never eat salmon in Hawaii
Mark Wiens made that place popular with his video. You guys should definitely check his video out 👌👌
waiting for Luca's walk on every episode ;)
I wish eater had knowledgeable hosts.
looks bomb
Wow 😳Speed Racer T Shirt
2:31 "Oh I won't shake your hand." *fist bump*
Pandemic vibes....lol
Haha walnut banana bread is the best 👍👍👍
you should try Kokoda (Ceviche) in Fiji.
Dang... I might have to stop by Alicia's tomorrow.... Not for the poke though but for like the duck and stuff... lol.
Price for the food?
I'm into weird food combinations, so someday I'm definitely going to try poke and banana bread.
And yes, you should always add nuts to banana bread (be sure to toast them first).
interesting video
is that white crab poke ethereal or is it the banana bread?
how much for a poke like that?
Poke with some beer, ideal
But what about chocolate in banana bread, Lucas? Dark chocolate in there is my platonic ideal.
Cool shirt
Nuts on banana bread warriors unite! lol
now I really want poke
"F*ck that, nuts go in banana bread," - Lucas.
Go and tell 'em!
