  • My fellow Automotive Fanatics, are you looking for a safe and easy way to gain extra power out of your turbocharged BMW, Mini Cooper, Mercedes, or Toyota? I have the PERFECT modification for you.
    Today’s product review will encompass the process of adding on the effective and proven Burger Motorsport (BMS) JB+ piggyback plug-in module.
    Why use the JB+ and not an ECU tune?
    - lower cost
    - retains factory warranty
    - easily removable and reversible
    On a scale of difficulty, I would rate this project a 1-2 out of 10 and will literally take you 5-10mins to install or uninstall. It’s simply that easy!
    If you guys have any questions, please post below and I will do my best to help. As always, thank you for watching and supporting my channel! Until the next time, this is Peter, The Automotive Fanatic!

    Great video, very clear and concise. As far as the turbo boost being misreported, this is a known limitation when you use a JB+. I have a B48 330i that caps out at 18 PSI stock. With a JB+ installed, my boost gauge is still reporting 18 PSI stock even though I set the JB+ to +3 PSI, so I know it's actually making 21 PSI. I reached out to the company that makes my boost gauge to ask why that was happening and they confirmed that the gauge can only report what the car is supposed to make (or 18 PSI), and not what the JB+ is "tricking" it to actual making (or 21 PSI). It's a bit annoying, but a small price to pay for safe boost and extra performance.
    Also, it's worth looking into what your turbo's maximum boost cap is. On my B48, I think the max boost is 21 PSI. It's possible your turbo is capped out at 8 PSI, but it's also possible it's a bit higher than that, so you may actually be making 11-12 PSI with a JB+.

      Thank you for your input. I'm sure it has to do something with the OEM limitations.

    You're seeing stock boost because the ECU is not calibrated to the JB+.

      BMS had mentioned the same thing to me. It makes sense though.

      Just what I was about to say…ECU doesn’t realise that it’s boosting higher because the JB+ is fudging the signal back to the ecu

    Hi Peter keep up the good work...I have a question...I'm going to install a catless downpipe and my s3 2016..do I have to go stage one or two tuned..because I don't want to flash my car..I just want to used my jb4...thanks

    • @TheAutomotiveFanatic
      @TheAutomotiveFanatic  2 роки тому

      Hey Clive, hope you're doing well. If you're going to install a catless DP, you do not need to flash a tune since you're running the JB4. The only reason why you would want to flash a tune is to "turn off" the CEL warning that will come as a result of the catless DP.
      To take it one step further, you can stack your JB4 on top of a tune and "fine tune" your tune if you want to go crazy. There are many cars that stack.

    I plan to do this on my X5 45e as well as intake system and a downpipe. That in total should give me a 40WHP gain or there about

    Should we fit it as in this video belore the air intake box pr use the maf sensor right after the intake(above the intake like you have in your other video)

      Mr V, the way I installed the device here, is how BMS recommended it for this particular vehicle.

    Have you done a valve stem seal replacement on an N18?

      Hello Jonathan, no, I have not performed a stem seal replacement on the N18 motor.

    Why not just get the jb4 instead of the jb+? is there downsides on the jb4? I know its double the price but the power u get is more than double extra

    • @TheAutomotiveFanatic
      @TheAutomotiveFanatic  Рік тому +6

      Great question Zendy. Yes, you're correct to state that the JB4 makes more power and is more customizable. However, not everyone is prepared to spend almost twice the cost of admission and wants that much more power. The JB+ is intended for those on a budget you wants OEM+ performance levels with install simplicity.

    Which stage did you use? I have a f56 mini I thought about doing this to

    • @TheAutomotiveFanatic
      @TheAutomotiveFanatic  Рік тому

      King Joseph, there's really no "stage" with this piggyback unit. It's just plug in and enjoy! You can though, "dial" the level of power you want.

    With more and more encryption on the new ECUs, devices like these will be the only way to easily bump up the HP on new cars.

    • @TheAutomotiveFanatic
      @TheAutomotiveFanatic  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Bill, I think you are correct. It's getting more difficult to "crack" ECUs nowadays. Plus, ECUs have the ability to log overboost.

    • @canuckforce1
      @canuckforce1 Рік тому

      @@TheAutomotiveFanatic would usage of the JB+ still be detectable by a Mini/BMW dealership/mechanic? like I would obviously remove it before servicing, but wondering if the changes to boost are logged in some way that would cause issues with my warranty. obviously hard to tell for certain, but would appreciate your thoughts!

    • @TheAutomotiveFanatic
      @TheAutomotiveFanatic  Рік тому

      @@canuckforce1 great question to ask. Let me put this out there...IF you were to blow your motor using ANY tune, a dealership scan tool WOULD be able to detect overboost due to the severity of the problem. However, if you're simply having general services performed, there's no reason why a service technician would need to "dive" that deep into the ECU parameters. Therefore, I think the JB+ would be fine.
