Helen Reddy singing "I Am Woman" (original version) for the Mobilize for Women's Lives Rally in Washington in 1989.
I was there on that day…I’ll never forget the collective power we all felt as woman in that moment. Gathered again in 2017 at Women’s March in DC, numbed by the direction our county was taking… We must keep moving forward. Do not look back. My tears are flowing as I write this.
Must have been a great day for white women
Hi cScott. That must have been an amazing time and seeing the late great Helen ready perform live with in my opinion one of the greatest songs of all time.anyway hope you are well and happy with life and I know America seems to be going through some tough time.take care.trevor.
you can delete my comment all you want. Doesnt change the fact that this was an event for white women only and those are the only faces you see in the crowd
Awesome. We need something in 2024.
still a bunch o white ladies. You can keep removing my comment. and ill still post it.
It’s time for us to resurface this song! We are strong, we are woman.
I am posting this version on my Facebook page. Tomorrow I will post another version.
This should be modified for a political ad NOW in 2024 as a reminder!!!
I just watched, "I Am Woman" movie. We dropped the ball; we are back down on the floor, metaphorically speaking. Today's Phyllis Schlafly won.
States now have the right to deny females liberty. Sad,
Yes!!!
and here we are again in 2024. Set back decades. I AM WOMAN HERE ME ROAR!!!
I don't care what any one says this is one of the greatest songs of all time so there.
Absolutely 💯 genius at just the right time in history!
Absolutely 🤗 ! No question 😁🎯⁉️😎 about it !
It is. Who cares what anyone else thinks or says.
Woman you have to speak up in 2024 in the election your voices matter thank you to all the men who stand with us 💙
Ginny Thomas, a leader of todays Phyllis Schlafly type females, got the ear of her hubby in the Supreme Court. Sad.
I grew up with this song playing over and over in my house. Its message rings true still today.
A most powerful and inspirational performance by Miss Helen Reddy who was easily and by far and away one of the greatest popular singers of the 1970s !
She kept her beautiful voice so many years later.
That was back in 1989 when women were fighting to control their own bodies. Now, it is 2022, and women's rights are once again being taken away. Never any consequences for the male side of the pregnancy. It's getting exhausting.
I just watched I Am Woman. Speechless
same
where di you watch it?
Jen Mandel Stan 👍🏽
Only just finished watching it. Had to watch as much Helen Reddy as possible on UA-cam straight after. This song ALWAYS makes me tear up.

RIP Helen Reddy. I attended this rally!
Wow - I bet it was amazing! I born the following year.
@@JaimeeL901 I feel 150 now, thanks. 😹😹
@@lisaj1387 I'm envious.
I'm a jelly bean too💔
Me too.
Helen went to women's prisons and gave concerts for those incarcerated women, at the peak of her fame in the 70's. That was a great thing to do, giving those incarcerated women hope. God Bless you, Helen Reddy!
Great. Entertain the murderers, thieves, frauds, child molesters. Great.
@@c.knoxville5998 Are you a Saint? I'm sure you have done things in your life and made mistakes. And I'm sure there are people that are wrongly convicted. With DNA it has been proven.
She's like Johnny Cash.
There is an upsurge in incarcerated women, especially for contempt in FAMILY Court. They can put women in there indefinitely while handing custody of children to the abusive father they are trying to escape abuse from with their children they suddenly realize they won't be allowed to protect outside of the marriage, by taking the abuse within it. Women have died from brain cancer in jail on contempt for years without an actual sentencing and they never even got to see their children again, even before death, and often female judges and attorneys snd evaluators have sentenced these women this way because they have joined the patriarchy in order to have power. They are not held accountable. Government has basically realized at all levels that unless you are well connected most people can be picked off one at a time, especially good prisoner women, injustice. Stealing our wealth through the family injustice system, everyone taking a piece of our pie, its ordered, is a multibillion dollar industry. Most people are too busy surviving to help their neighbours and media moves on or works in tandem to ignore or support the injustice.
@@danv.872yes, but because she’s a woman we never heard about it
RIP “She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.”
I'm so very sorry for your loss. She was amazing. My condolences.
RIP Helen Reddy
Phenomenal Women
“I AM WOMAN ... Until I Make My Brother Understand”
Eternal Song with Phenomenal Woman RBG 🌈✨🎶
Sincere condolences. A legendary lady, an important anthem.
And we still have to fight for women’s rights
ERA still has not been passed; allowing the Supreme Court to give states the right to deny liberty to females.
Real singers can really sing live. No autotune.
Helen was simply a legend.. This performance is outstanding.. Rip Helen thank u for the music and your strength.
Outstanding performance
I just watched I am woman and to say I am shocked is an understatement. To be a young woman myself and to not know there is an international womans day is sad and unbelievable. You would think this day would be acknowledged for all the hardships women have gone through and continue to go through. MY grandmother wasn't even aware of this day.
A song that in so many ways, changed America.
Always loved her , didn’t fully realize her impact until I watched Netflix I Am Woman , thanks miss Helen Reddy ,
I'm a guy, but have always loved this song since the 1970s...still relevant today .more than ever.... May her soul rest in peace.....
@@flaviusfesterbragne5795. You’re a guy….who apparently thinks women should have rights. Thanks! You’re a great ally! Plus, it’s just a fabulous song! ❤❤✌🏻
I watched it too..she had a big impact on women
On International Women's Day, we say "Take the struggle all the way!" Power and equality!
One of my favorite albums….played it almost 24 hours a day in college!
I just watched I Am Woman.... i never knew that this song was the anthem for women”s rights.... love it. Very emotional.
It was also chosen by the UN as the official anthem of the Year of the Woman in 1975.
You should have been there when the song came out as the anthem of what in the 70s was called the Women's Liberation Movement. I was a boy and it's still my favorite song as a middle-aged man. I'm also doing the work.
I just love her accent and the way she sings!
Helen Maxine Reddy
(25 October 1941 - 29 September 2020)
We have lost a global feminist icon in Helen Reddy. For decades her song ‘I am Woman’ has given full-throated voice to our fight for gender equality. Every word still relevant, no message dated, including we have ‘a long, long way to go’. Her legacy will endure. Hear us roar.
And we still have a long long way to go. She was one of a kind. 😢
One of best voices ever, RIP Helen ! xxxx
I just found out more about her from the movie, it made me love this song even more and Helen will always be on my mind.
I am only 41. I remember being a very young little girl in my bedroom playing her greatest hits over and over with my hairbrush in hand singing this anthem with such fervor as a 10 yr old little girl.
I have always loved her so very much❤
Me too! Especially Delta Dawn
@@lisamead7015 then fight for your rights!! Our mothers and grandmothers fought so hard for you . I am 61 years old and you don’t know how bad it was!
Yessss! Me too!!! Circa 1978 ish for me :-)
Passing along knowledge to my daughter, we must never allow anyone to take away our rights.
Supreme Court recently gave states the right to deny liberty to females. Our young ladies need to mobilize, NOW.
My favorite female artist/ singer! My mom listened to her all the time. Saw her in concert a few years ago in Las Vegas. She was still amazing. So sad she’s gone. But her legacy lives on! God Bless Helen Reddy for all her beautiful music.
Helen Reddy's greatest hits...no album collection is complete without it.
I only had it on cassette and cassette players love to eat them. Thanks to You Tube I can listen to anything, anytime.
Yes everytime I hear and sing it I cry now. So proud!!! Today we celebrate the first female V.P. elec. Wish Helen and RBG could have seen this. Yes, we CAN face and do ANYTHING!
Hopefully, the next woman veep or president will be a more serious person than Ms. Harris. Her approval polls are down there with head lice and anthrax.
U gave me strength to carry on with every word during many a hellish time serving my country in a male/Rambo dominated world fr the 70’s onward. And look at me now .....a 20yr decorated soldier !! Thank u Helen Reddy...Lest We Forget u never.
Male dominated 70’s. You served 20 years with promotions and medals. Many of the 58,000 who died in the early 70’s never made it to the age of 21. Arlington National Cemetery is filled with White Male Privilege. Vietnam Vet USN 71/75
Yasmin, thank you for your service!
Thanks for your incredible service, from a fellow veteran!
Women of The USA we must roar all the way to the polls this November in numbers too big to ignore. We will bend but never break.
She was such a tremendous singer!
She never stops inspiring me. I am woman. I love you Helen Reddy and I love my mom for playing her music for me when I was a kid.
OMG This solidifies what I'm trying to do! This song says it all!🇱🇷♥️🌠Thanks Helen Ready!♥️🦋see you someday!
ONE SONG I CAN LISTEN TO OVER AND OVER AGAIN ...NEVER GET FED UP WITH IT ....HELEN REDDY THE GREATEST .😍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow this song brings me to tears everytime. The first time I heard this song was in the Sex and the City movie and thought it was written for the movie. Then I saw it on Box office and watched it and I've been watching Helen Reddy interviews this whole weekend. I can't believe she is gone. This is my favorite song and I'll always love her. I love that she made her dreams come true.
I was 11 when this song hit #1 in the US. It was amazing to me then. I had to get a little older before it started bringing tears to my eyes. After having a daughter, this song really hit me.
@@winterlongone I have the same experience! I am Woman is the anthem of all liberation anthems. Here's a great one for our time: ua-cam.com/video/eaY8kI0oEpA/v-deo.html
One of the most epic anthemic songs of the 70’s . Well loved from my grandmother, to my mom, to my sister, even down to my niece! Imagine, every one of them from each living generation I witnessed all knew this tune and sang along to this all time favourite! This isn’t just your ordinary song, It’s like a generic anthem.
Absolutely Great! That voice and conviction coming from her soul!
I am woman brought me here...
Man she was so smooth and classy...
Put this song on top of the list to be included on the next voyager probe. Rip Helen Reddy. Thank you for such a wonderful song. Such passion and brilliance.
Rest in Peace, Helen. Thank you for everything.
Helen Reddy..I was born in 51. Wherever you are I hope you know that this beautiful song was an anthem for so many who saw something more.. freedom, oppression, and more ♥️❤️
What a Woman, what an amazing human being...her msg to all women, girls we are strong, if you are going through difficult time, l hope you remember how strong you are and you have what it it takes to get through anything, don't let ANYONE tell you otherwise no matter who they are!!!💚💚💚

Great version!
Those vocals, I love her!!!
I was at this rally...and I sang along. I was old enough to know the song from its original release, as did many other people in the crowd.
God, I wish I could have been there... I was 20, raising my 2 yr daughter alone when she sang this at the rally... Helen... Your music and spirit is timeless, you are missed, but thru your music you will ALWAYS be remembered!

Time to bring this song back as our anthem ladies! Vote Blue '22!!!
The late 60's and early 70's were heady times. We had high hopes. Much still to be done, but a start
This song made me feel proud to be a woman.
I hope all women will vote and save our country 😘

Really good film on Netflix. Brought back memories of singing with my Mum and Nan xxx
She lived her purpose. God bless your soul, my queen.
