Thanks, yes it was a weird one but the prone position research was useful. There was a reduction in form drag compared with upright seating and the tolerance to g-forces was superior. However, prone pilots couldn't see that much behind them so useless in a dogfight! But then I guess in the mid-50s it was all going to be decided with missiles... anyway, improvements in g-suits (the ones that inflate around the legs to prevent blood pooling in the lower body) and better techniques negated the advantage for g-force tolerance and better aerodynamics coupled with better engines reduced the edge that form drag reduction gave. So it was all quietly shelved. But at least it has been preserved!
Maybe it's apocryphal but one test pilot is reported as having said of the nose that there was only one thing a man could do in that position.....and kt had nothing to do with aeroplanes!
That's the only way to do it, build more kits! I like using cheaper kits to practice on - I don't feel so bad when I bodge them up! I think every modeller will admit to still be learning, no matter what their level. I'm way, way behind some of the things I've seen on UA-cam, but Learn something new pretty much every time I open a box...
Hi John, I use water but it tends to still stick. Therefore I only use old brushes for it. To be fair, it's not something I like using much - I try to mask entirely with tape when I can now, but sometimes masking fluid is the only thing that will work - e.g. on very curved pieces.
There was a conversion kit made by a company called Brigade Models BKC48002 that was released in 2017. I don't know if you can still get them. It was designed for the Airfix 1/48 Meteor F.8 though. If I ever find one I may have to do it!
He said it was odd but not uncomfortable and the g-loading in steep turns was very acceptable, even after a biggish lunch. The main thing that bothered him was that there was a small window under the nose. When landing, you felt you were going to face-plant in the asphalt at 100 kts or so as the nose wheel drops!
There is a conversion in 1/48 for the Airfix Meteor F.8. I am very much tempted as the Meteor is a lovely thing - I'm about half way through it - and I wouldn't object to building another one!
That’s a weird looking machine but it obviously served its purpose. Very cool build.

Another cool interesting build, love the Dad link with the model. TY again I only hope I can develop my skills as I build.

Oh, and remember its what makes you happy and proud that matters!
Another great idea with that numbered parts. ;) Nice to learn it. Great done! All the best for You! ;)
A quick question about Maskol. What do you use to clean off the brush application?

Yeah, sounds exactly what I know. Thanks.
This machine is now at Newark museum.
Is there any conversion set for the airfix 1/48 f8 two do this aircraft

@@garys_stuff thank u I will do some research
That must of been a weird sensation for your dad taken off and landing laying down ?

Aw man, kit needs the pilot guys so as to make the prone thing innediately clear.
Absolutely, I’d love a little model of my Dad in the front!
Special hobby not airfix 🤭🤪
