Had an Airfix Folland Gnat 1!72 about 50 years ago.. thanks mate👍🇳🇿✈️
Awesome build. Lovely colour scheme. Thanks for sharing
Early '70s guitar riffs made a good contemporary soundtrack!
I’ve built two Airfix Gnats so far (Yellow Jacks and Red Arrows), but sadly not to this standard. After watching this, feel I need to have another go. Great build and finish 👍
Ah thanks so much man! It's a very fun little kit indeed. There's no such thing as too many gnats!
I’ve just got this one off my daughter for Christmas and not having built a model for about 40 yrs thought I’d see if people posted builds etc and came across yours… Yeah great thanks for the museum standard version… now i know what is supposedly going to turn out like lol.. lovely work.. hat tip to you ✊
Loved this one, came out real nice at the end
thanks very much man :)
Nice little kit to build. In regards to weight, it isn't a tail sitter - one of the rare one's that will sit on it's wheels nicely.
Glad you liked it! Yep, this is true!
Great video - just started my build yesterday, I’ll be using some of your tips here. Cheers
Nice. I fly it in VR it is an awesome little jet.
Lovely little model well done.
😄 thanks!
Just caught this video and i'll be doing this model soon, so this goes in the saved column
Excellent build son.
I've got the same model I'm gonna do mine in the Hot shots scheme.
Keep up the great work son
I was close to doing the hot shots scheme, you have fun with your kit mate. Thanks for commenting :)
Well done Sir! If you can buy another kit of this plane, please built Hot Shots!!! It will be a funny thing!! Greetings from Chile.
😃 it's a very nice kit, I may well buy another!
Very nice. I've got 3 of these in my stash, a silver and Day-Glo, red arrow and this one... Also 4 Special Hobby fighter variants which I highly recommend. Got a gnat addiction lol, still want a Yellowjack and an Ajeet
Dont blame you! The gnat is brilliant
Now this is an epic gamer moment
👌
Thank you for sharing , my friend . The airplane project is looking great .
✌️🙂👍🏆🥇👏👏👏
Thanks very much man! Glad you like it!
@@ModellingWeekly Great painting and i like the decals puted on the airplain .
Thank you for sharing ,my friend ! 👍
Ohmygod,Last time I saw a Gnat model, it was packaged as a Matchbox kit ❤️ 🤗 💞
Haha!
A disadvantage of paintwork applied with an airbrush is the distinct "orange skin" effect, clearly visible especially on glossy surfaces. That's why I apply the paint by brush, whenever possible. Although acrylic paints replace more and more enamel paints, I still prefer them to water soluble paints. The surface is then sealed with acrylic clear varnish. Acrylic varnish does not react with enamel paints, so there is no problem with dissolving the base paint...
Yeah there is a bit of an orange peel going on here. This is caused by the fact I used an acrylic varnish, which dries far too fast to self level. In recent years I've made use of gx-100, a lacquer from Mr color that levels beautifully with MLT
hi! just putting the finishing touches to a yellowjack version of this kit, and i did not add any nose weight at all, and it isn't a tail sitter, in fact if i push the tail end down till it touches the table it will pop back onto its nose wheel.
Interesting! Airfix suggest in the instructions to add weight to the nose....oh well, you learn something new everyday!
Looking great!👍
Thanks 😄
nice model really enjoyed that
Nice kit!
Thanks man!
Did you forget to put on the what I believe is pitot tube on the nose of the aircraft?, Boxart shows it on
Still looks great the red and white scheme
You're right, I didn't put it on - though It was intentional, as the one included in the kit was horrendous and I couldn't find a replacement!
Well, doesn't that look amazing!
Haha! Thanks so much as always Matt :D
Nice build! Here`s a new subscriber from Germany.Greetings :-)
Thanks man! I always love hearing from other countries!!
👍
Looks Fabs!!
May I ask what kind/type/brand of clear coat you use? Do you not worry about it wrinkling the decals or crackling the paint?
I use humbrol gloss varnish with an 0.4mm nozzle, straight from the bottle - it's acrylic, so I never tend to worry about it attacking or reacting with the paint or decals - just make sure to let them fully cure!
Cool
:)
No pitot tube?
Yeah, If I remember correctly I think I decided to exclude it because it was covered in so much flash, and I didn't have replacement tubing at the time!
How much time did you spend to build this?
I'd say about 2 weeks on and off
There is one thing I completely do not understand with the builds of this model kit: how can you build other option than Oscar EW-5894...
😂😂 I can tell you, it was very close...I fell for the complicated masking though, gotta make it a challenge!!
I loved the video, but “stink”, man white spirit and set and sol are a model builder’s parfums 😂
I guess it's an acquired taste 😂
@@ModellingWeekly guilty as charged.
I’m so annoyed that I clicked on it just as it ended
Oh god 😕There's always next premiere! I hope you enjoy the video bro :)
"The detail was a little simplified" - Interesting way to say there is no detail at all. Biggest problem of Airfix kits these day is the ultra primitive cockpit. Somewhere in the 1950s level. Ancient KP kits have better cockpits.
:D You're very right. I always think that Airfix are slowly slipping away when it comes to detail work
They have a bunch of interesting kits, but I always say no when see the cockpit (or the lack of it).
