Guy's got his shit together, that's for sure. Terrific player. Technique for miles.
not sure how I can turn this into a mile zero joke...
they had a snapshot of a lineup there. When it was Geoff, Mike, Wes, Evan, and either Rudi or Lyle, this band just had an endless supply of sauce.
Agreed. Stacked with talent.
His solo from "Mile Zero" is my ringtone on my phone. I think it's brilliant.
I agree. It is brilliant.
Thank you for mile zero
His bends are so soulful!
Work on your vibrato
he's so efficient! it boggles my mind! technical perfection!
Goddamn I don't think I've ever seen someone playing so effortlessly
It’s Rick Graham levels of effortlessness; I’ve been binge watching Wes Hauch/Alluvial/Faceless stuff for weeks, the guy is a master
White Ice Cube
Pffffffffffffffffffffff you're right though, that's fucking hilarious man hahahahahahahahaha
He was this good 9 years ago man I can only wonder how good he is now
I mean he is killing it in Alluvial
Cleanest phrasing ever..! Love this guy.
Holy shit, he plays so clean and seems to know A LOT of theory. New hero. I think the Periphery guys hyped him for the right reason. He Is GOOD.
He has a really nice balance of feeling and shredability to his playing. It's clean, thought out, but not robotic. I love when guitarists put emphasis on musicality and harmony more than just showing off their skill. Good stuff, and a really nice pairing with Michael Keene.
I swear I've watched this video Thousands of times at this point. Wes is Incredible.
I hung out with Wes a couple years ago after a Periphery show, He was nothing but nice and humble. Cool dude to hang with and a killer player too - Wish him the best of luck!
This guy is awesome. Reminds me a lot of Per Nilsson from Scar Symmetry. Really clean playing and great phrasing. Too bad I haven't heard of him before. Will surely check him out more.
Wes Hauch is in Glass Casket now. Which is good, cause Glass Casket is back. The Faceless, however, have some tough shoes to fill.
The lick at 1:00 is actually from Charles Mingus' "Moanin'" ! Cool though
Man, he plays so clean, and his solos are really unique!
Wes offers lessons from time to time!
He's such a beast at phrasing his notes.
Love it.
I love watching these Guitar Messenger masterclass videos. I dont even play guitar, so about 75% of the stuff he's saying goes straight over my head, but I think its so cool watching all these incredibly talented musicians play some of their coolest, most well known stuff.
Powerful WES HAUCH!
I want another masterclass!!
The fact that you even read, let alone replied says a lot about your dedication to your fans as well as the music you play. I heard at the most recent Toledo gig you played that you were open with the fans and talkative, so I'm eating every last drop of what I said. I apologize for the comments that I've made and I hope nothing but success for The Faceless as time goes by. I've been listening since Akeldama and I don't ever plan on stopping.
Such an awesome dude.
Happy Birthday Wes !!!
I love his soloing style.
You've just made my day.
His phrasing is amazing, so creative
I have to admit he got some very tasty runs. I like his phrasing a lot.
Good work man.
The combination of scale and arpeggio is very good!
I wanted to see them on March in SD, Cradle's tour got cancelled. Hope you guys come soon to SD !
Awesome phrasing, i like the hybrid modes going on!
you can't expect someone to be nice to every person they meet esp when they are on tour in new cities everyday sometimes all year long. Musicians like him put off their entire lives to please the likes of you by doing what they love. Be glad that he even played to show for you.
I've watched this video way more times than I can count. I am probably half the views. The playing is just CLEAN!
i bought this album, love it
Do more shit with Keith Merrow! You two have some of the nastiest riffs I've ever heard in my life \m/
Agreed.
2 years later and we have Alluvial lol
I know right, I'm just gonna pretend that they read my comment and decided to write it hahaha
i met him at a show in mexico he´s sooooo humble.
Wes Hauch. Fully baving.
While it sounds like you already have your mind made up about me.. I apologize for any miscommunication and I certainly never intended to be rude. It's also worth noting that I don't remember any of this, and I had a good time in toledo with the opening bands
You just earned so much respect dawg!.....You keep doing what you're doing and we're looking forward to some great music.....
watched a recent interview and you said you'd lost weight. I'd never thought you were over weight but after seeing you in recent videos compared to now it's nuts! congrats man :)
That line-up is so killer omg
Fenomenal!
I was lucky enough to see Wes and Evan in Seattle with TF.
Wes Hauch is such a dude!
That awkward moment when the rhythm guitar player is better than the lead guitar player.
No
No way.
@invertedpixel, that’s not why he’s better. That has no bearing on anything. He’s better because he has more improvisational skills and better songwriting skills to boot.
no moments there
Better.. As in? Writing? Playing? Hmm, Keene is a monster at writing riffs
Such precise bending and economic technique.
Holy shit, Wes.
It's just a harmonic minor scale with a chromatic passing tone between the 4th and m3rd.
Sweet tone.
One of the cleanest and tightest players. THOSE BENDS HNGGGGGGG
Yeah, when I saw them on that tour, he and I talked for probably 15 minutes. Nothing fanboyish or even about music, just life. People need to realize that musicians hate being fanboyed (unless you're Tosin). Wes actually gave me his pick just because I didn't ask for it XD
Sweet!!
His shirt Is so cool! Amazing technique, he Is a máster....
Badass guitar!
The intro song is called "Planetary Duality I : Hideous Revelation"
I believe he incorporated this into the solo in Emancipate. That lick at 1:02 sounds exactly like it.
thanks!
I noticed that chromatic note made it sound beautifully jazzy, what scale is it considered to be? Or is it just an altered natural minor?
yeah i wanna know that too!
In the last section of the mile zero solo he is sweeping, is this a sweep or fast picking on the album?
The faceless lost a hell ofuva guitarist
They lost a hell of a guitarist bassist AND drummer. Losing the autotheism lineup was the L of the century
Cool man...
hey man sometimes everyone needs to sit down and catch a break. Wes is a cool dude!
Emil Werstler & Wes Hauch are some of the cleanest metal guitar players atm
Go Wes! You make us Sharters proud!!!
Does Wes Hauch play the final solo in Emancipate? Cause after watching this, it sure sounds like he plays the final solo
for any who are interested, that Em lick is probably the hardest lick in the Emancipate outro solo, after I spent a full night learning it by ear, I found this video and now I want to die
The intro lick reminds me a lot of Greg Howe very mixolydian soundish maybe I'm wrong but I love it! :)
Even in drop tuning you can get a good chord sound out if you know where you are on the fretboard. I think it has something to do with the CAGED system.
that end lick is his solo from mile zero by periphery if im not mistaken
It says that in the description
Does anyone know the name of the song at the beginning?
I would kill to spend a day with this dude... holy shit.
YES
What's the name of that song at the start?
0:56 a part of the Autotheism Movement II: Emancipate
That's so cool🔥💯
DAT TONE
Having played that guitar, I can say this - I would have hated to have been Wes and having to get rid of it. The thing seriously rocks, especially with the EMG Het Set that he put in it later.
at 1:00 this part is also in the end of the solo of emancipate, right?
+MCAdrien9606 absolutely
You need to use less gain and accent the midrange in the EQ, if you have problems with sustain with the lower gain use some compression
Anyone know what seymour duncan pickups he's using?
Whats the songs from the intro?
what is the song that we hear at 0:22 ?
haha! there it is, the ol trusty major 6. Gotta have that kind of enthusiasm about it if you want to be on his level
I know basic theory, and am constantly learning more.
I agree with you that these chords that he talks are very basic, and briefly talks about the modes (Dorian), but you have to also know that most guitarists learn by themselves, so they don't learn what chord names are, nor what they are made up of. That doesn't mean that they're bad guitarists though, some of the best don't know anything about theory ;p
Yeah, it says that in the video...
Wes is a god.
Opeth is generally clean with strummy parts and riffy when distorted, plus I doubt they drop they're guitars into c or A tuning
so i heard that wes was writing a song that was maybe going to be featured on autotheism, anyone know if that happened? Which song was it if it did?
what string gauge does he use??!!
Well said Mishman
how old is he does anyone know?
smooth interesting phrasing
lol, check Tool's Faaip de Oiad, they used it way before the Faceless, and they used the whole call, the faceless used only a small part.
i no exactly what you mean. thats why i LOVE the instrumental album they out. The music alone is so pretty and bulb does a great job. but they toned down the guitar parts to add in vocals on the newest album. they are still a great band.
Song after Wes plays? in the intro
Everyone's gonna have a bad day, if this guy's version of the story truly tells the whole tale.
All that aside, this is a truly insightful playthrough by Wes and I always enjoy seeing him play in videos like this. I swear, it's like no effort at all goes into the way his fingers hit the strings. When I play you can hear every fuckin' fingerprint ridge on my fingers scraping the strings lol. ...exaggeration, but my point is clear. Fuck opinions. This guy is wicked talented.
what's the intro song?
I admit the vocalist will probably turn a lot of metal heads off, but if you sit down and listen to their newer stuff it is really good. At first I did not really like the vocalist but he really puts emotion in the songs and after a few listens I really got hooked on the band as a whole. Still love the Faceless also though, even if Michael Keene feels the need to sing on every song for the new album.
When it takes you 10 seconds to own every guitar player on earth, you know you're good! :)
His solo in Autotheism Part II (the last one) includes a lick that sounds kinda similar to the 1st example from this lesson. dunno, maybe its my imagination, check it out anyway.
Fucking crazy Tune! Love the sound of your Guitar!
Saludos de México!
Wes is fucking awesome. We jammed to some Pantera when he came to Tucson lol
How can you listen to meal?
