I have the 164 & am liking it. Too bad the reviewer didn't get any sustained steep/deep turn rhythm because this board is a total dolphin! By far the squirtiest board out of turns I've ridden. I just got the Jones mind expander for my powder board. I love the float and i agree that the 3D shaping seems to really help. I just got back from Telluride and getting back to the condo requires you to take blacks and double blues or an extremely flat trail. It’s my first rocker board and definitely took a few runs to get used too. Lol! The first black i did with it was really sketchy but got better after a few runs. I definitely feel more comfortable and feel like i have way more control on my camber boards...specially the Arbor Bryan Iguchi Pro Camber. It too has lifted contact points, which come in handy when your legs are shot after a long day. It’s way harder to catch an edge when you are getting lazy with your turns. It sounds like you're describing the Jones Hovercraft. They've had a 3D nose with lift edges, and a channel in the tail, too. The technology between the two boards seems really similar. What's the difference you've noticed between the Burton Double Dog vs. the Jones Hovercraft?
I would argue that yes there is a possibility but there is always a massive market for more traditional shapes. You only to look at the camber vs rocker argument to see how snowboard trends work
Maybe I'm wrong, but to me it seems (without the middle snow lines deeper inside the board) the up going edges on the nose and tail like a boat hull are just like what Bataleon has done with their TBT for years now. I don't get the 'hype vibe' about this 'new' technology neither.
I'm really interested to see more fiberglass inserts in the nose and tail like the K2 Alchemist. It's becoming a popular technology in skis and I can see it having a lot of benefit for lowering weight and making turns and floating easier.
