I often come back to watch this match. Federer was playing amazing prior to the semifinals and everyone thought he had a chance, considering on 2015 he beat Djokovic several times. But the first two sets he was completely demolished, despite not playing bad at all. Djokovic was simply on a rampage, dismantling the attacks to the net of Roger. The come back of Federer in the third was just out of this world, only he could avoid being humilliated from Novak that day.
Maybe u dont know 😂 But Novak smashed Roger 2015 Wimbledon and Us open in finals Roger was mentally bad vs Novak after these losses and he lost 2016 AO same way as the previous 2 slam matches vs Novak

You can see how Federer struggled to keep an offensive stance throughout the whole first set. Every Federer's attacking shot came back to him with even more pace and depth, forcing him to defend. And it seems he was not expecting those responses. Djokovic was just unplayable. Totally outplayed Federer here.
Le nombre de fautes directes commises par Fédérer dans ce match a été tout simplement impressionnant ! Face à un super Djokovic qui n'en faisait presque aucune, il n'avait aucune chance de l'emporter !
Federer didn't play bad, in fact he played really good, just Nole was just at his peak that day... playing deep and offensive, serving great and missing nothing... catching Federer out off guard. Then, Federer fought with heart for maintaining honour and took the third, which was really tight. Then the same on 4th set but 2 or 3 points made difference for Novak. Yep, first two sets were destruction, but Novak was happy to close the match (25:48) because he knew how hard is to do it against Roger. So yeah, great two sets for Novak but watching this now, this wasclose to went to decider
Gotta give credit to Federer for fighting back in the third set. He was getting dominated in the first two sets. He could have folded or mentally lost it completely from the embarrassment. Nearly flawless from Djokovic that day.
Vintage Novak, what a performance........but then again, nothing new, he's been outclassing Fed for quite a while.......Nole is quicker, he returns serve like no other, his groundstrokes have more pace, simply the better player......
