  • Taken from aboard the Herbert C Jackson this is one of a couple of videos of us arriving in Marquette, Michigan August 4, 2022. In this video the crew is unlatching the hatch covers in preparation for arrival. Once unlatched the hatch crane can slide along and remove each cover setting it on the ground beside the hatch opening and then after the ship is loaded they are put back in place
Be sure to check out my channel for other videos from this trip, as well as a trip I took back in 2019 aboard the American Spirit and lots of others taken around the Great Lakes from various locations where I like to shoot!

Thank you for this video, it's a very interesting look at what does make those noises when I'm watching ships coming into the Duluth Harbor canal; also 1 long 2 short's channel has incredible videos of the ships and I often hear this same sound. I never knew what it was, and it's wonderful that you've posted so much in the last few days ~ lucky to be onboard!!

Finally seeing the action to the sounds I've heard on the Duluth Canal cam!! I didn't know they had a tool that pops the lock, but I do now. Thank you! 🙂

I always wondered what that noise was.

I noticed from the video they were doing every other hatch holder to open it up. What's the reason for that?
