I'm really happy you're getting sponsorships, but whoever sees this comment: Don't use BetterHelp. They're terrible in literally every way, read the wikipedia article on them.
I recommend reading more into them though, or watching a youtube video on them in the background.

Love your work, cool animations with detailed explanations.
I think at 9:26 you meant that the kerosine was used up as the trim tank off-set the increased buoyancy, but love the attention to detail and clean renders.

BetterHelp's appalling behaviour is well-known and well-documented by now:
      - they sell patient data. These are people in need, who are treated as a data point.
      - they do not vet the credentials of any of the therapists they list. There's even a disclaimer in their T&C
It's a data-harvester masquerading as a clinical service and you said "Yeah, but that cheque though."
And if you're OK with that, I'm not OK with you: bye-bye, enjoy your filthy lucre.

I have seen Kaiten at Yasukuni Shrine before.
It was bigger than ordinary torpedo. But I thought it was a little small when I thought of a human boarding it.
But at the same time, the cockpit of Zero-sen was also cramped, so it was probably just right for Japanese at that time.

(molto malamente)

Yes, human lives have never been worth anything to the rulers of authoritarian states. Just numbers. Only in democraties they at least have to try to minimize unnecessary casualties as having too many young men killed just to increase the ruler's power or the profits of businessmen can affect elections in the home country. Not that he real rulers are elected anywhere, politics is just a charade to give the people an illusion of being able to influence something.

The whole idea of intentional death to the user is chilling and indicative of both the power of Bushido beliefs and the desperation of the military leadership to demand this of its own combatants. While more than one allied pilot who knew they were too heavily damaged to escape enemy capture and knowing how Japan treated its POWs choose to make a kamikaze with their aircraft I can understand that split second choice to "die now and take a few enemies with you" rather than die a slow death of starvation, disease, and physical abuses in a POW camp. To be sent on a mission with zero probability of survival and nearly zero probability of mission success speaks to the high sense of duty these guys had that they would do it at all whether they volunteered or were voluntold to participate.

At 9:15 you talked about the handle that set the depth and stated there was no way for the pilot to manually set it.
But then you also stated the pilot would surface and use the periscope to acquire range and bearing, etc. to strike the target, sometimes doing that twice.
That would take the pilot adjusting the depth of the torpedo/submarine manually.
    That was a bit confusing.

    • @AndrewCZ47
      @AndrewCZ47 3 місяці тому

No manual steering as in manual control of the dive planes, but they could change the depth preset the torpedo tries to keep. On a normal WW2 torpedo you set this before launch based on target's draft, here they could adjust it from inside using that crank.

Very timely and well done video: Just two weeks ago, I visited the former Kaiten training base and memorial museum on Otsushima. Otsushima is located about 40 minutes ferry ride from Tokuyama city in Yamaguchi prefecture.

8:15 something about being submerged underwater in this dark cockpit and knowing it’s the last thing you’ll ever see is horrifying to me. It’s hard to put into words but at least with the ohka you were flying over the ocean in the sun to your end, not hurdling towards your death in a giant torpedo surrounded by metal beneath the surface of the ocean.

It's quite ironic that they put a ad for Betterhelp in a video about a kamikaze vessel.

Minor typo in closed captions around 2:22. They say the forward oxygen tank is 26.4 cubic feet, when the diagram in the video reads 27.4

Gostei! Eu sabia da existência dos torpedos humanos japonês. ( era assim que eram conhecidos em meu País)
Mas não sabia que eram tão avançados. Parabéns pelo vídeo.

Would have been really cool to see the inner workings of the torpedo engine moving like seeing the pistons going up and down

I wonder if it would have been possible at this time to design a kind of UBoat figther. Where the mainsub stays safely away a few kilometers and detaches its small submarines. They get close to their target where they have a high chance of releasing and hitting with their torpedo and then get back to the mother sub.

Germany could actually build guided torpedoes late in the war. Nothing like modern ones, just "stay pointed at the loudest sound source", but still enough to give you a good hit chance even on a destroyer. Slower bigger stuff like cargo ships and tankers were basically toast.
