  • In this video, I make a muskrat fur muff to keep my hand warm in the cold. This is a larger size muff that works well for the 1780s to 1810s and then again for turn of the 19th and 20th century so it's a very versatile accessory to add to your historical winter wardrobe! This is an awsome history bounding accessory too, you could even add a pocket to the inside and use this as your purse as well.
I also give you my tips for working with real fur.
The size of this muff is 30iches by 17 inches so it results in a nice oversized muff though the 1790s did see even larger ones in fashion plates. But the general idea here works for any sized muff. If you want to use this for victorian/edwardian I would suggest tieing a cord through the inside to work as a neck chain as they usually had one for when you needed to use your hands.
If the fur you are working with doesn't have an interlining you'll want to add one to avoid stabbing unnecessarily through the leather.
