as a patreon I can say Tyler has given me great info for beaches to drive on for my mid north coast trip in October super detailed and really quick reply bloody legend
I can't watch a lot of four wheel driver 'experts' on youtube because they're all bloody idiots. (and yep, that includes Rhonnie bloody Dahl and that Sam Eyles/BNB boofhead.) Just because they are popular doesn't make them right. (Doesn't make me right, but I'm pretty good at this 4wd shit and helped shape the national training curriculum.) I would rate Tyler's experience and advice very highly, indeed. He seems to have his head on straight. Keep up the great work.
Ahh yes.. mungo brush north of dark point. Very very soft! Have had my heart in mouth a few times on that beach midweek on rising tide, very wild experience!
Man I just really appreciate your honesty, transparency, practical approach and the fact that you have a go at most things without destroying your vehicle. Soooo relatable to me and all my mates with dual cab utes. If you keep making vids we’ll keep watching (liking) them. Your vids have become the Sunday morning ritual for me and the wife.
Hay mate your an inspiration to this 4x4 community. I've watched you from your 1st video on UA-cam. This is raw and no bullshit, awesome work to you your son ,your dad and your girlfriend. Keep up the good work mate, You need to get on patreon for $5 a month. I'll shout you a coffee you dont drink.😂😂😂 all time. Cheers Kev Gold Coast.
I've been up that beach many times over the years it can be very treacherous but the reward up the end is very worth it Great channel you have keep up the great work Love it
I smell a full time youtube career on the horizen. Its all happening for you, well deserved. Been here since just over 1000 subs. Quality content each and every upload. Ps maxtrax mate... 1 for each wheel 😉. I reckon 50km per hour is a bit to fast for 2psi, just putter along. Last thing you would want is multiple tyres off the rim, that would suck. Lowest psi ive ever done is 5psi to get off a beach and up a long ass sand dune. Anyone who says it cant be done is talking shit, snd are a certified mall crawler.
Cracked up at your comment, the car didn’t explode, no one died! Brilliant recount mate.. will remember to back off and you can let you’re tires down to less than 10psi
We've been in a similar situation at the mouth of the Jardine River stuck below the high tide mark. It took low pressures, winch (to a tiny salt bush) and maxtrax to get out. Scary stuff!
Heading up to the Jardine River next week in the Prado on a solo trip. Not going to lie, I don't have a ton of beach driving experience and It's almost like this vid and comment was put here by the 4WD gods as a warning! Cheers buddies!
Selby Press The track out to the mouth is sandy but if let your tyres down you’ll be fine. When you get right out to mouth the last 50m is super soft so if you stop and camp before that you won’t have a drama 👍 Have an awesome trip!!!
Some people get scared letting down tires but it's the only way to get out of a bog on the beach and maxtrax are helpful to lift you back on top of the sand
Nearly lost my D22 in that exact same section! There would've been minutes in it! A mate and I were cruising along that section of beach (as you say the sand is insanely soft), we tried climbing onto the harder sand closer up to the dunes, in doing so I had it 3rd gear low range pinned with no luck, ending up burried so close to the harder sand. I reveresed down to what looked like harder packed sand towards the lower third of the beach (boy.. was I incorrect). Attempting to have a run-up to get on the harder sand I sunk instantly, meters from the water's edge. I too tried climbing diagonally up the beach but found myself sliding even closer towards the water (about 2m from the wash of the waves). As the tide (and my stress levels) rise, I pull out the MaxTraxx and begin to dig myself out, then propping the tracks under the rear wheels to boost up the beach. After about 10 little boosts, where I was originally stuck was now completely underwater and the tide is chasing me up the dunes. After about an hour of progress with the MaxTraxxs a Patrol saw us in strife and came to the rescue, providing us with a snatch.
Mate, I was stressing for you watching that beach run, being bogged and chased by the tide is a nightmare scenario for me! It’s the best feeling getting out of something like that though. As far as your videos go you can’t please everyone, You’re putting out great content so keep it coming! Looking forward to the Watagan’s trip!👍
I started watching your videos because I have a Nav as well. But now I really can’t wait to watch all your adventures. Keep up all the efforts and hopefully people out there can be more realistic when it comes to paying the bills as you stated. Awesome channel.
Hi Tyler, Another great video. Reviews about products are all about honesty and if people believe you. You have that ability. Keep up the great work. Look forward to one on the NSW South Coast if possible. Cheers.
Great video mate, that info on the sand driving is gold! Love your honest approach to life on UA-cam, it's very refreshing. Fantastic to see sponsors recognising your great work. Keep plugging away mate. 👍
I know the feeling. The day I bought my Triton I went strait from picking it up to Blacksmiths Beach, stock as a rock, never driven on sand. Got on the sand and felt a bit out of my depth so I swung it around down near the water to do a U-Turn and went strait down to the chassis... God knows how, but I JUUUSST got out but I was sure I was a gonner for a good 10 min..
Ive been caught up on a log and bogged down, had camp in truck overnight and hike out for emergency reception... and just last weekend I ruptured the fuel tank and had to get a tow truck out of the bush (currently off road waiting for new tank to turn up). It’s all part of the fun and adventure. Just be well prepared and make the most of the experience...
Go for broke bro. Anyone worried about sponsorship are just jealous. The true supporters are here for the content and appreciate you. People can do research and make up there own minds about products. I'm glad things are moving forward for the channel and glad to hear you'll be sticking round 🤙
Hey mate I completely understand everything you said about how much time creating content takes and just because you have sponsorship doesn't mean you don't believe in the products & would use them even without being given the product. It's hard to get people to understand sometimes that just because you've been given a product to use & review doesn't mean you have to give 100% positive feedback. Keeping your subscribers trust in you is the biggest thing & it's something not to be taken lightly. Your doing a great job mate 👍
2PSI. definitely. Thank god, some agrees with me. I have waited a long time to hear someone say this Lol.... Drop the pressure in your tyres, as low/high as is necessary in the situation you find yourself and then really importantly, drive accordingly. There is no "correct" low tyre pressure number, only as low as it needs to be, that gets you out of that given situation. All situations are individual, as are the vehicles. I don't think most people put enough emphasis on tyres and pressure and there is no magic formula. Those fours rubber points of contact are the most important on any vehicle, weather it's the family car, the work ute, a 4x4 or a racing car. It's the only points of contact with the driving surface we have. Great video.Thank you...
Really enjoy all your video's and your honest feedback. NSW/SA border is now open. You still need a border pass, but you don't need to isolate. I'm on the Limestone Coast, be good to catch up if your coming this way.
Hey Tyler. Love your videos and camera work. Its clear to see how much effort you put into your work and that it comes from a passion of 4wding and adventuring. Your no bs attitude and honesty about products and the way you go about things is one of the reasons I like watching your video. If you can earn $$$ from what you do - go for it. Why wouldnt you? Just always remember to keep it as you want it to be, otherwise it can easily turn into a chore and then the passion with go and so will the quality. Those people complaining are just jealous about your achievements. Like you say... if you dont like the videos.... then you dont have to watch. I personally love them and look forward to seeing more adventures. Cheers
I had a similar incident to this in Kernel just out of Sydney back in the early 90s when I first got my 1989 LN106 Hilux 2.8D, I had no pump, no winch, no recovery gear and only been on the beach a handful of times. I had to drop my tyres so low (I had no tyre gauge either) to get out of this little off strip of sand which luckily wasn't anywhere near the water. However was off into the bush and a fair hike to get back to the road.lol.. The worst part was the nearest petrol station to pump up was like 5-10km away and had to drive on the road with no air in my tyres. Learnt a valuable lesson that day, Can go as low as you want, to get out of sand and get a air pump...lol.. I have since learn if you don't turn too much and just go straight, you can lower the pressure to nothing and drive out of sand and it doesn't kill the tyres. So good to hear someone else having a pucker moment in sand and having to go too low to get out..lol..
Back in 1970 I was stuck in sand and lowered to 0 psi Mate it was hectik I drove in 3rd gear for 27.3kms I blew the tyres up with my mouth Luckily I had some gas before hand But I managed it. I did I was driving ex army 1969 cruiser with the skinny tires. It was great. So much fun.
Great video. I've been to 6psi a few times when things have been sticky and had no problems. Just remember to drive as straight as possible with only gentle turns on the steering wheel as that is what will pull it off the bead. Also if you go from 32psi to 16psi you are dropping 50% psi but then if you then only drop another 8psi you have again dropped 50%.
That was a close one! My HR went up watching that but glad you got the Nav out off the beach! Had to go down the garage and give my Nav a hug after that! 😂 Nice work and keep it up 🤙🏽
After watching this live the first time on Instagram, I’ve never clicked a video so fast because I’ve been that keen to hear more about it. Well done 👍
Another great video. Informative about air pressure. Thanks. While travelling alone in sand, it is a good idea to carry sand anchor. It becomes difficult if it is a long trip and beach is just a small portion of the trip due to weight issues.
I had a similar experience with my uncle when I was young around your sons age. I remember him hesitating to drop tire pressure until the water came close and the car started overheating! From that day stuck in my head and now I immediately deflate to 5 when I feel the car is getting bogged at high tide. Not a fun situation.
Love your videos, especially because you are local to me so it’s great being able to see tracks and places to go not too far from home. I’m about to buy my first 4wd & would love to see a video of some beginner tracks and places to go close by for someone starting out. Keep up the great work 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
That's happened to me twice over the years, at Robe in SA, and Coral Bay in WA. Waves lapping at the wheels, flat tyres saved me too. Maxtrax were useless, you sink immediately as you come off them. Dum dums say 14 psi because normal ambient air pressure is around 14 psi. A tyre gauge measures the air pressure above ambient pressure, so if the gauge says 14, then the pressure in the tyre is 28psi actual. 2psi on the gauge is 16psi actual.
I disagree with that. I've done many many solo beach runs, even exactly where Tyler was in this video. I've done the Simpson desert and never owned a set. On that topic though, planning on a central oz desert trip, solo vehicle, but will be towing. Because the consequences of failure out there can be death, we've actually just bought a set of the original max trax.
This s is one of my favourite vids of yours, just for the sheer adrenaline release it gives me. That would've been so dam scary - amazed you got any footage! I work in roadside assist and took a call from a guy in Robe SA who was in a similar spot of bother by himself (roadside assist can't help at all) so I (quietly confidently) gave him your advice to go as low as you can in psi. Dunno the end result but he sounded a bit relieved he could try something 👌👍
the beach looks like near one of the gibbers near myal lakes is that right ? Beautiful water clarity .Is the old rutile rd still open from tea gardens to seals rocks it was a car punisher back in the day .
Good for you Tyler. Another great video. I'm glad to hear you're getting some sponsorships mate. Blind Freddy would know you have a connection with "Drifta", but there is no law against that. The fact that you give honest reviews is what's important. I would have been sweating bullets on that beach episode.Bloody hell, it doesn't get much hairier than that. I am always aware of how much work is involved in creating your videos. I like to imagine how you have gone about the various shots. One question though, I don't know much about Drones, so excuse me if this is stupid, but, because drones have pretty extraordinary control capabilities, could'nt you just fly a drone up the hill, set it in position hovering, while you drive to it, are they able to be set in one spot like that ? it's good to see that you are slowly making a living doing something that you love. Keep up the good work mate and cheers to your Dad. He seem like a nice sort of bloke. Check out a channel called "seek Adventure", by Michael. I was a big fan of his because he had a down to earth straight shooting approach, the same as yours. He gave it away in January this year because the amount of work involved made it become a chore, and he ended up losing his love for the hobby, and just wanted to get back to camping and 4x4 ing to simply enjoy it. Cheers Mate.
Thanks mate, appreciate the support and feedback! Yeah with drones in relation to that, drones don't get any sound and you want sound for the 4wding/hill drives, plus setting up the drone to fly every time is much more work then quickly running a camera up the hill. The drone has to locate GPS signal, orientate itself etc etc. Its a few minute job each time to use it And yeo I have seen the video of Michaels you are talking about
Man that was a close call on the beach!!! I know your pain with the effort to put these vids together but you are doing an awesome job, I learn heaps from how you do it and always look forward to your videos each week. Hope you do get down to Vic High Country, maybe we will pass you on the tracks... if we ever get out of lockdown!!
Loved the video bro, very interesting, been in a couple scary beach moments myself, not good but turned out alright 👍👍👍 I’ve a rtt myself & I lov it, being off the ground & ventilation all round, 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 looking forward to more adventures bro, rims look awesome, your outtakes make me laugh 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Love the vids. keep up the good work and screw the critics about sponsorship and payments. Everyone doing 4wd vids to your quality are getting more than you one way or another.
Hey Tyler, great honest vids mate. I'm sure you've already got a set of Max Trax on their way but another Item worth considering would be a winch anchor such as the Sherpa or similar. Cheers mate :)
well done tyler i hope you do very well with ur channel , your great and so much info from you , you are 1 very honest person i really enjoy ur videos, what model navara you have and was wondering if u had any performance tune , i only heard that the navara is a bit under power down low , cheers tyler keep up the great work , i was thinking of a dmax or the navara
Tires aren't coming off the rim if you don't force them like taking a turn at too much speed or applying too much pressure to the sidewall, also he has aluminium rims which can hold a tire better than a steel rim, also losing a bead is harder when your tires are wider than you wheels by about 4 inches, for example if you have a 12" tread wide tire you'll lose the bead easier with a 10" wide rim than with a 8" rim
Haha good stuff mate. Ive been down to single digits a few times now gets pretty gnarly over here in the West. 12 is just standard for the old girl on sand. If u hear the pressure used to put a tyre on its rim you understand it isn't coming off unless ya drive like an idiot.
Hi mate, can you tell me how you got in that situation? Was there a way you could’ve avoided it by choosing a different part of sand? I’ve never Taken y carbon beach before and I’m going to Morton Island
One question. The fire under the awning. Ive always thought it would eventually melt or burn through, have you ever had that issue? I noticed hot ash melt holes in my brand new Kings awning wall on Wednesday night and that was with the fire to the side so surely you would get similar issues. Edit----------- Also if you are on the Central Coast (Watagans, Morisset etc) again I'm happy for you to do a walk around on my Pajero.
Haha me too on that stretch. I was down to 5psi pop n stop on recovery boards to stop from sliding down wash outs. That place gets crazy. I just subbed to your channel 👍
Tyler, great episode and thanks for the info. I'd wonder of the reliability of the pressure guage at 2psi, given it's not normally used to test for those levels. Could be spot, on but it's so far outside common practice (something about your pushing the limits, haha). Other thing I wondered was, what temperature the tyre would get up to at 2psi and 30plus kph. Could have helped them stay put. Just thoughts. Don't answer. Apppreciate your content.
Hey Tylzz. Firstly, well done for making a great decision under stress. Kudos on that and of course for sharing with us that it can be done. Shows some evidence on the Nitto's as well. One thing I wanted to ask though, where were your Maxtrax/recovery boards and why didn't you use em?
Thanks mate! Didn't have any recovery boards with me mate, I have carried them in the past but just never use them, might have to start carrying them again haha
Is that Mungo Brush exit, mate? Was down there today and had a similar experience. I wassitting on 15 PSI but whacked all 4 maxxies under and popped straight out :)

wow, that beach session must have been nerve wrecking! very glad the 2psi did the trick. I will remember that for my own use if things go pear shape

that's why they have a sand anchor as i travel alone every time i don't go without it, i have a proper sand anchor and a deadman anchor
Thursday arvo just got WAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY BETTER!!! your old boy looks like a legend, love some tailor!
Appreciate it mate!
Rims/tyre combo makes a difference for how low you can drop pressures.
Use to roll beads constantly with a 9” wide rim.
Changed to 8” and no dramas.
Good to know!

Nice work and keep it up 🤙🏽
Haha thanks mate!
Congrats man hope it all keeps growing for you and more importantly you keep loving what you’re doing 👍🏽
Appreciate it!!
After watching this live the first time on Instagram, I’ve never clicked a video so fast because I’ve been that keen to hear more about it. Well done 👍
Thanks mate!
I respect your honesty, thank you for sharing facts.
Another great video. Informative about air pressure. Thanks. While travelling alone in sand, it is a good idea to carry sand anchor. It becomes difficult if it is a long trip and beach is just a small portion of the trip due to weight issues.
Thanks mate! Yep sand anchor would of been good, just one of those extra things to carry that you might never even use
@@TylerThompson90 just a thought, part of your drifta fire pit as a sand anchor?? 2 birds 1 stone. love the vid again mate, great work
Fantastic to know that you can run 2 psi and get off the beach if needed.
I had a similar experience with my uncle when I was young around your sons age. I remember him hesitating to drop tire pressure until the water came close and the car started overheating! From that day stuck in my head and now I immediately deflate to 5 when I feel the car is getting bogged at high tide. Not a fun situation.
Yep definitely can save you when you need it
Mate.......how exciting.......scary but exciting, your little guy will have a great story to tell your grandkids
Sure was! I don't think he really cared what was going on 😂
Awesome mate. Always learning with you. Thanks for your videos. Take care
Thanks 👍
Great video! I'm enjoying back through these.
For research...
😉
M8 what a great save , bet that heart was pumping well done and great vid as usual 👍🍻
Thanks 👍
Love your videos, especially because you are local to me so it’s great being able to see tracks and places to go not too far from home. I’m about to buy my first 4wd & would love to see a video of some beginner tracks and places to go close by for someone starting out.
Keep up the great work 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Awesome, thank you!
Oh really, didn't know that. Definitely a scary experience
One of those stories that if u weren’t there, or had a witness or cam vision, most ppl would doubt you.
Just bought a new Navara, looking forward to adventures with the fam, Thanks for your vids man great inspiration!
Awesome! Thank you!
Always look forward to your new videos mate good to see some sponsors helping you out you deserve it 👍
Thanks mate!
The first 10 minutes raised my blood pressure terribly. Good work on getting out of there 👌
good effort on the sand nightmare, great video as always
Thanks 👍
Hi, Tyler! You should carry some sort of winch anchor everytime you go to such terrain just in case. It's not worth risking your new rig.
Deadman 👌👌
Awesome vid as always mate, and loving the lumberjack beard.
Thanks mate!
Great vid, good info. Awesome to see your channel grow.
Appreciate it!
If you're on the beach, on your own, you have to have traction boards. Its that simple.
Love the content mate. Glad you got away with it!
Thanks mate! Always good to know how low you can go
the beach looks like near one of the gibbers near myal lakes is that right ? Beautiful water clarity .Is the old rutile rd still open from tea gardens to seals rocks it was a car punisher back in the day .
Yep not too far from there mate and nope that track was closed a long time ago unfortunately
Not on the beach but Ive gotten desperate enough to pull the valve cores trying to find traction before
Another awesome video. Glad it's starting to translate to a career. You deserve it!..
Thank you!
Said it before , love your honesty and your doin a great job !
Awesome! Thank you!
Cheers
Mate.
Its a few minute job each time to use it
And yeo I have seen the video of Michaels you are talking about
@@TylerThompson90 ..Thanks mate, that explains it and makes sense. I didn't think about the sound aspect of it, and you really need that.
Far out! I bet that got the heart racing! Glad you got out of it 👌🏼
Sure did!
Thanks mate!
Digging the baird mate bet you needed new shorts that day 😂the roof top tent and awning looks bloody awesome mate 👍 🏴
Haha thanks mate, appreciate it!
Loved the video bro, very interesting,
been in a couple scary beach moments myself, not good but turned out alright 👍👍👍 I’ve a rtt myself & I lov it, being off the ground & ventilation all round, 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 looking forward to more adventures bro, rims look awesome, your outtakes make me laugh 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks mate!
Lov ya work !!
Been watching from the start , keep going and ignore the knockers !!
Appreciate it!
Another interesting vid, your right about from finding music for vids! It can be hard at times! Cheers
Sure is!
Am I the only one that was waiting for his new awning to go up in flames 🔥
I think you are, yeah.
haha Na we checked the heat and wasn't really any hitting the awning above the fire, just wouldn't want a massive fire obviously
I'm keen for one of those firepits, maybe not with the table though lol. It's a bit much for me.
Awesome work mate! Love everything you’re doing
Glad you enjoy it!
Wow, what a bum squishy moment!! So glad you managed to get your beast back to safety :-)
Love the vids. keep up the good work and screw the critics about sponsorship and payments. Everyone doing 4wd vids to your quality are getting more than you one way or another.
Thanks mate!
Great insights, really interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing mate.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Tyler, great honest vids mate. I'm sure you've already got a set of Max Trax on their way but another Item worth considering would be a winch anchor such as the Sherpa or similar. Cheers mate :)
Cheers mate! Yeah think im going to get some recovery tracks 👌
@@TylerThompson90 Good Idea mate, might save a few stress wrinkles..haha
Great vid Tyler, you should sneak a moment of your old man catching a fish in a vid down the line!
Will have to I reckon
well done tyler i hope you do very well with ur channel , your great and so much info from you , you are 1 very honest person i really enjoy ur videos, what model navara you have and was wondering if u had any performance tune , i only heard that the navara is a bit under power down low , cheers tyler keep up the great work , i was thinking of a dmax or the navara
Thank you 👍 nope haven't done any performance tune to mine, its a 2019 ST
Some more fishing stories and maybe some fishing tips from your Dad would be a cool segment to break up a trip video 🎣 love your videos
Thanks mate!
Keep going man, you make a great job. Tks.
Thanks mate!
That just shows the quality of your tyres to go down the 2 psi without coming off the rims
Edit-----------
Also if you are on the Central Coast (Watagans, Morisset etc) again I'm happy for you to do a walk around on my Pajero.
Having to setup the awning and pack it up to go for a drive even if you're staying in the one place....I wouldn't use it much 😊
Yeah same with any awning I guess
Keep up the good work mate 👍
Nice save Tyler
That was my weekend at Lancelin heading to wedge!! Had to leave my mates patrol stuck and at the mercy of Poseidon
Haha me too on that stretch. I was down to 5psi pop n stop on recovery boards to stop from sliding down wash outs. That place gets crazy. I just subbed to your channel 👍
Will Parlour thanks mate appreciate it! Yeah we had 3 cars bogged and it was crazy! Got into camp at 1:30am haha
@@locknatious4x4adventures38 Far out! Look forward to watching it cheers
Just discovered you and your videos!! Great work and you come across so down to earth.
P.S. Bairnsdale, Victoria is usually pronounced Bearnsdale😉
Thanks mate! Appreciate it 👌
Tyler, great episode and thanks for the info.
Thanks mate, yeah don't know the answers the any of those questions haha just know it saved my ass getting out
Hey mate, great vid. Did you ever have issues with the 285s on the standard rims?
@@TylerThompson90 I see. Still, great decision making under stress.
Have you ever used a sand anchor for winching in sand or soft ground?
Nope
Is that Mungo Brush exit, mate? Was down there today and had a similar experience. I wassitting on 15 PSI but whacked all 4 maxxies under and popped straight out :)
Yep not too far from there mate!
lol 😂! Well done bro! It’s all good I did the same and got! Completely flattened the tyres and had no problems
Love what ya do’n mate, keep up the good work 👍
Thanks 👍
