Now I'm sure I've missed some good points and I definitely don't know everything so let me know in the comments any tips/tricks you use for the beach and then we can all help each other out :)
Really great vid Tyler, thanks for the work you put into it. If your viewers want more on different track brands or unbogging details, you have a kindred spirit in Michael in WA on his Seek Adventure channel who has done some thorough reviews and gone to the trouble of contriving many bogged situations including breaking the bead, so the rest of us can avoid it. m.ua-cam.com/play/PLkKBNDl1CP9n-2cqmcrlyb46plMq9x0wY.html Was hoping to get where you're exploring on the spring school hols but it didn't work out, your footage has made me even more keen. Cheers.
I think the most important point about driving on the beach is this one: stop caring about your 4wd... They are ute I got an brand new Triton after 10km on the clock he went down to Lennox head and was on the beach sand and salt. I got it since 5 years now it's 60k full of rust but been to Moreton Fraser and every beach and sand drive I can put my hand on of course I smashed couple of bash plates bought better one got the snorkel cos my air intake was full of sand, don't spend 20k on modes if you too scare of taking your car 4wd cos it's gonna to be dirty or sandy it's a bloody ute 96 percent of ute owner doesn't go 4wd or camping smash the cunt a bit it's made for it enjoy it and appreciate the scenes. Get your ute couple of scratches won't kill it!
Hey Tyler, can you please do a video on beach river / creek / gutter crossings. Especially how to approach them, where would be the hard sand, thoughts on approaching drop offs - how to go down and up them. I can't find any info / videos regarding this and I have my 1st beach trip coming up very soon and this is kind of stressing me out a bit.
Tyler, ur video reminded me of something - last year we were up north on holidays and went for a drive on the beach at Hawkes Nest. As soon as we hit the beach we came across Daniel the German student. He was badly bogged in his Jackeroo, trying to dig himself out with a dinner plate! He hadn't let his tyres down, and obviously had no recovery gear. So we helped dig him out a bit and lent him our Maxtrax and out he popped, he was one grateful German!
Great informative well produced video Tyler Thompson Loved the bloopers at the end!! since you asked I’d say two more things If you can’t afford max trax or similar then a few folded up potato sacks and then fill them with sand when required work as a really cheap alternative There are many schools of thought re cleaning after beach. I like lots of LOW pressure water at least to begin with to dilute salt and wash off sand. High pressure water forces water up into folds and into spot welded panels where it might never normally reach. Also saltx all over the car before and after helps. A bit in the windscreen washer reservoir also helps when you inevitably use them to clean your salty windscreen of sea spray. It will run down the front of the A pillar and inside the back of the front guard panels and drop down dissolving built up salt
Re: bloopers, Kayla is nothing but a bundle of mischief, you go girl! Re: Cleaning the under carriage of a car in terms of salt, if you are not in drought or water restricted areas, park the car on the lawn and just put a sprinkler on for 10mins. Yes those electronic rust inhibitors work very well but only on new vehicles or used cars with well cared for paint work to be effective.
Good video with the basics. 1 thing, when stopping, if possible let the car roll to a stop, that way it doesn't sink in as much. As for rust protection, good old fish oil everything and wash after and if possible touch up paint chips asap.
Another informative vid for us beginners. Heading to Blacksmiths in 2 weeks and it will be my first time beach driving. This gives me a lot of confidence that I should be fine with my stock ranger. Cheers Tyler!
Great video Tyler, I have been using 4 wheel drives for almost 40 years now both at work and play and still learning. Picking up some great tips on your vids, because as the years go by the vehicles and equipment evolve. Although the basics are the same, the technology is moving forward. It’s great to see you sharing your experiences with your family. Keep up the great work, you are providing a good mix of vids from the basics to the technical and presented very well. Love the camp equipment and cooking vids especially. Looking forward to more.
A tip that I use when airing up tyre is to count when you are inflating the first tyre. Use the count from the first tyre when you are inflating the other 3. This is a time saving method I used when inflating tyre. It will inflate the tyres as close to the desired pressure and save you time turning the compressor on and off too many times.
I had my old FJ Cruiser underbody coated with Raptor Liner and it protected it perfectly. Still need to flood the inside of the chassis rails, but after 250,000kms the underbody was still perfect. Electronic rust protection is a scam.
You might find it hard to believe Tyler but I took my stock MR Triton down and back up the Mcbrides beach track. So far the most difficult track I have navigated for holes and ruts. Of course it has a locker from factory and I scrapped some side step and tow bar but easy up easy down really. Stock H\T Bridgestone too. My point is stock these days with a back locker and is more impressive and capable than 2 inch lift and 33s. People may disagree but this is proven every time I go out with the boy in their monsta trucks haha with no locker/lockers. Of course I want the 2 inch lift and 33s but $$$.
Yeah thats awesome mate, new 4wd's are definitely capable with the locker. Just comes down to driving ability a lot of the time i guess, like if you sent someone there who hasn't done much 4wding in a brand new ute to Mcbrides its probably not going to end well for them haha but if you've got some experience definitely possibly. I think I'd still be too nervous taking the brand new stock nav down mcbrides haha
@Matt Hancock nice ride mate, you may have a little trouble getting back up but it's doable in your beast. Might just need to fill in those holes with recovery tracks or something. Edit: well worth the trip down as it's a track that leads somewhere exceptional.
Great video Tyler mate. As far as rust protection goes I had those electronic pads on my old wrangler but the jury is out on their effectiveness. They use them on ships with a ‘sacrificial ‘ metal block that rusts away first and then gets replaced. It only works because the ship is continuously in contact with the salt water whereas our cars are not so there you go. ATB Jason.
Good basic video for beach driving Tyler, I know I would have liked to see a video like this a couple of years ago when I started driving on the beach. And great point about having the right kind of recovery point on your car if you are going to be doing any kind of recovery.
Great video mate. Very informative for new beach drivers. I've lost count on how many people I've pulled out on the entry onto Stockton beach. So many of them drive up from Sydney straight onto the beach not know at all about tyre pressures.

Very informative stuff right there, as a non beach driver i think you covered it well, as it's never to late for this old dog to learn. @@DarranFuller The only time applying the brakes would cause issues was if you had a locked diff but normally locking the diff disables the traction control.
