As a former/recovering addict (clean since 2009), I can tell when others are on something better than most. JT’s eyes are the giveaway here that he’s using again. Breaks my heart to see the disease of addiction claim the scalp of yet another tremendous talent. He fought the fight as best he could, but left us with the eternal gift of his music. See you on the other side, brother ❤️🙏🏼
Yep- I noticed it right away myself. That glazed, overjoyed look when the poppy plant is working its magic. I can feel the high. He knew what he was playing with
@@randalclarke5487 Yup, very sad. Pupils pinned out too. What's sad is it wasn't even the poppy that got him. He was using white that happened to be laced with fent. I don't think he was speed balling, think it was a legit accidental OD. As the saying goes though, "you buy the ticket, you take the ride". Using any street stuff in 2024 is russian roulette, doesn't matter how rich or poor. Don't use alone and if you are then google neverusealone (the harm reduction site) and have someone there with you.
I met him after a show a few months before he passed away and I had the opportunity to hang out with him for a bit. That's something I'll always remember. It was amazing to be able to talk about his new album, old musicians, and to joke about the crazy stuff we've been through. I walked away that night with a new friend, and it saddens me so much, to this day, that he's gone.
I interviewed him twice. Saw him at an invite only radio show, then a big show that night. He was clean the first time we spoke. He was using the 3 other times. God love him, he fought it. He told me how hard it was. I asked him if Slipin’ and Slidin’ was his way of telling us he was back on the juice. He looked me in the eye and said “Yes.” He was embarrassed, you could tell. Although he wasn’t with us very long, his art will live forever.
He was the most talented musician i ever have seen. Saw him do a fast show, maybe a dozen songs. He was very medicated, yes, but never had i seen someone perform with that type of energy and flawless delivery. I was a changed person. RIP JTE.
I just heard of his passing & feel like someone punched me in the gut. So so devastated. THANK YOU for the music, JT. The most gifted are often the most troubled. Breaks my heart. JT will never die ❤️
I saw Justin open for Social Distortion in Dallas 2018. I had never heard of him or any of his songs before....but was looking him up on UA-cam the next day. Still lookin him up today. I don't know how to categorize his music...country? Folk? Rock-a-Billy? I don't know what to call it, but I like it. And that's a helluva complement coming from a metal head.
This was powerful and a wonderful view of a deep man. I can't tell you how surprised I was to hear him say he had lived in Poga (prounounced Pogee)! around 1990, my husband and I lived there a couple of years in 1981-83. Beautiful place in the middle of nowhere (there is a Nowhere Road in Poga! A dear friend took me to hear Justin in Asheville in early March. I'll never forget that experience.
Most of my favorite musicians are dead and then I found JTE. I started looking for concerts then Covid hit. My plan was to see him first thing when it was done. Then he passed. Great musicians.
one of if not the best at song story telling..im so thrilled i found justin a few years back, What a talent. He makes me happy , even with them sad tunes :)
'WE ALL HAVE A HOLE TO FILL.. THEM HOLES ARE ALL THAT'S REAL.. SOME FALL ON YOU LIKE A STORM SOMETIMES YOU DIG YOUR OWN.. RIP BROTHER I'VE REALLY ENJOYED YOUR WORK.
Been watching all these videos of JTE. So great. Here’s another one with the absolute gem at the end with the Replacements…. mashing together the two versions of the song with the last verse plus playing the lead and chords at the same time. What a talent. Can’t get enough after the fact. Ain’t that the bitch of it all????!!!!
I have such a good looking talented cousin. Justin comes off a little strong at times but his heart was humungus..... Much like myself. Justin's talent shows much Love. His personality def doesn't match his image or his music, but it certainly adds overall to who he was and makes him that much more of an interesting and unique fellow. Rest Easy mate 🙏

or was his talent entwined with his addicction cycle...as Townes himself said "My life will run out before my work does Ive arranged it that way"

I can never get through this without crying
Me too.
I just started getting into his music and found out he was w his heavenly family. Cried and feel the pain of loosing my 2 nephews bout his age.❤
You thought you were bullet proof. You weren't. Miss you, bro. You should still be here.
One man’s voice and his guitar. This performance is transcendent. Thank you Justin.
My god mama's eyes is incredible here. I feel like I'm hearing it for the first time, finally
Seeing how happy some of the people in the crowd are really shows the admiration we had for you Justin, I hope you found peace.
RIP Justin
You were definitely a gem
So sad--a wonderful individual talent. Will miss what was yet to come.
What a performance. He was such a gift to us all.
Thank you for the music, Justin. You can't possibly know how much you are and will be missed forever.
RIP Justin. Thank you for your music and song writing. Your lyrics will live forever.
I'm so sad about him passing. I'm 66 years old and really enjoyed his music. He was incredibly talented. RIP. You're truly missed
The news of your demise came as a blow to my head. I'm still dizzy.
Find no words to describe my sadness.
RIP brother. So much talent, so many demons.

Same buddy, just remember he will be missed but never forgotten! If you play guitar learn some of his songs a lot aren't as hard as you would think!
Once again you blow it out of the park ! More more !
Love the music Justin. You and your songs will be missed. Rest In Peace ♥
He is new to me. Loving him and, the Replacements cover ... ohh my....

I miss you everyday Justin
We all miss you Justin x
“Happens..” He definitely may not have seen eye to eye with Steve his father but the musical echo runs through him. Great set.
Sound great Justin!

What style picking is he doing here? His playing is so unique, thank you Justin so sorry what you had to go through
Man, what a talent, such a damn shame
What a freaking loss. Damn 2020
Love him and his music but looking at his eyes not sure how clean or well he was at this concert.
He seems messed up. They say some of Townes Van Zandt's last concerts were awful he was so messed up.
Blitzed to the Max her for sure:(
Off his face but beautiful and heartfelt as always…. Not sure the crowd are worthy of this performance or recognising such raw talent. RIP JTE
RIP Justin Townes Earle.
Justin fuckin slaying !!!
One-man American Music.
Style for days. One cool SOB.
Sounds way better live than post production
Damn I miss you brother
Gone way too soon. 💔

R.I.P. Justin
He got so much sound from that little guitar.
Why....its so sad...Ronny from Austria....
🎆
His personality def doesn't match his image or his music, but it certainly adds overall to who he was and makes him that much more of an interesting and unique fellow. Rest Easy mate 🙏
JTE is an amazing artist.......and most of them know he's high AF (it's ok, high people play great music) Sad story
Can anyone please write the changed lyrics he sings? I can’t understand😩
r.i.p
Loved by me
What a player , that's a 300 dollar guitar folks , rest easy
I really hope times change to where on front of a musician like this the crowds does more than sway and stare
It’s hard for me to watch this part of his life. He was so heavy on the Booz and coke here.
I love JTE but he has tempo issues lol. He usually starts out a song really fast and slows down as soon as he starts singing.
he's fucked up
Real as real gets. Ain’t no ‘flaw’ in that any more than there’s any flaw in a flower
As Lightning Hopkins said when they told him he wasn't doing proper twelve bar blues changes... "Lightning change when Lightning wanna change"
Can one person just admit how sad this performance was? The pretending has to stop.
Sorry folks, he is off pitch and looks high AF.
What a talent..he's developed this guitar style that's really taken...looks like he's drinking again tho, hope not.
I think he finally sounds like he use to sound like back during midnight at the movies and Harlem river blues.
@@DinkWhit Exactly!
@@DinkWhit ya im really glad he found his sound again sober.
This is def not a sober performance. Sorry to tell yah.
@@antbatt2658 how the fuck would you know?
Zzzzzzzzz
Just learned that he killed himself. Sad for his child
Junky playing mediocre blues😂
