I have 'known" Lindsay for years; her kids were still young and mine not even born yet. As one of the semi moderators here I can't recommend her painting classes highly enough. Even your youngsters will learn; bc it is less about technique and more about the actual painting. So even your young ones will have a result they can showoff. Just give your kid some student brushes; I advise royal and langnickel soft grip so youngsters have a bit more control of how to hold the brush. Cheap paper Micheals will probably sell is the Bristol watercolor visual ringband journal. I use it myself and recommend it to parents bc you cant expect a child to be proud of a painting if you give them printer paper; due to use of water printer paper or regular paper won't hold;it will buckle and rip. This watercolor sketchbook and brushes wont break the bank and your kids will can grow into learning without fighting paper. You can stretch paper but It's not what I would recommend for beginners; first get to know the joy of painting.
I Love your birds! I haven't seen anyone else paint such detailed birds, they add so much to the scene. I really like this scene. I live in the midwest so I enjoy seascapes.
Awesome Lindsay! I tried my hand in this one and it came out as my best so far. I messed up the horizon in the middle, so I put a rock out there for the birds I painted to land and eat a fish he caught! Happy crafting tonight, thanks!
Hullo Lindsay, I am just a fan of your Michael’s classes, they are fun and you are such an incredible teacher! I know that this introduction video is super speeded up, but I am just not a fast painter so even the relaxed pace of the Michael’s classes are not slow enough for me. I always set-up and start. I quickly turn into a spectator and set my brush down and watch the rest of the class. I do like the fact that it is posted on the Michael’s page for follow up later! Thank you for sharing this “quickie” version to wet the appetite for the class! Good luck with the sign ups and I will see you there!
I signed up, too. I’ll be in Italy during class so I’m not sure I can do the live class but I’m excited to watch the replay when I’m back from our trip! ❤
I just signed up! I might not make it to the class when it airs (still at work) but I will watch it later for sure. I am definitely a beginner, so I look forward to doing this class. Thanks so much. 😀
I signed up. I have lots of Derwent, I am very curious of your review of the new Derwent Water Color pan set. I don't think it's available in the US yet but I wait patiently for your review and comparisons to other Derwent pan sets.
Those long, amazing tips on the Drawing pencils, wow! Do you have a special sharpener that works the magic? I am always on a quest for the holy grail of sharpeners. Still searching, lol.
I just saw this live… I should’ve realized it’s recorded beforehand 😅. My sky was splotchy. Little splotches of blue in the white. I don’t think you saw the question, I asked at the end there. It looks almost like a kid smudged the paper with their fingers? Only, the paint is visible on the back in some of these spots. Which implies paper quality issues. JUST the lower part of the sky, not the sand or sea. It’s just the part I used a paper towel to dab at. Strathmore Visual Journal, 100% cotton paper. It was the nicest watercolor paper I had, despite technically being mixed media paper. Is this a defect in the paper, or likely dirtiness from the store? Is Strathmore cotton paper know to react poorly with paper towels? …is it my brand of paper towels? Your paper and clouds looked fine. It’s not the exact same paper as the materials sheet specified, but I figured it’d be okay. I used Cotman paints. Sorry Derwent 😅. My Derwent Inktense colors aren’t anywhere similar to the ones needed for this - mainly bright colors.
That paper in the visual journal should be very similar. Maybe it was a sizing issue or a fingerprint. Watercolor should lift easier than inktense. Weird. I rely on my detwent moderator to verbally relay questions to me because I can't watch the chat but she is new and not from the art side if the business so she might not have seen or understood it. Hopefully, the next page in the journal will be good.
@@thefrugalcrafter hopefully! Thanks for the awesome class! I’m still holding my fingers crossed for a lifetime subscription option, lol. I dislike recurring subscriptions or buying piecemeal - what should I get? If I get it all, less FOMO and regret, haha.
This is so beautiful! Thank you. Could you share what sharpener you use for your pencils? I have a hard time finding one that gives the sharp point like yours.
While I wait for the replay on the YT Michaels channel (still can't watch them live) I will attempt to recreate it by watching this time-lapse. For those who can watch live it is an absolute must! Lindsay is such a great teacher.
Her commentary was very helpful in the Michaels class. Even if I don’t have the same palette, I had similar colors - or at least a frame of reference for the colors used. And the concepts and ideas she had as she proceeded helped guide my progress too.
I love the theme. I'm excited. I just received my line and wash set, so I was excited you chose this product.
Hope you like it!
Thank you for sharing. It's nice to know what the Derwent Pencils and paint can do. I have a couple ideas now. I love this picture.
You are so welcome!

😂I’ve already signed up! Lindsey what is the liner brush you are using or would recommend?
It's a golden taklon liner from my set with craft amo. Any #1 or #2 liner will work:)
I signed up, too. I’ll be in Italy during class so I’m not sure I can do the live class but I’m excited to watch the replay when I’m back from our trip! ❤

Hi Lindsay, Are you back from France?
Yes, I got back last night:)
I totally love this painting.
Lovely! Can you watch the free class at a later time? I will be working that day.

Thank you! Cheers!
Love loose, easy painting like this, and the duller colors that this derwent set gives you is so lovely. Thank you❤
