Hey man, I just want to say thank you for this review. I love salt water fishing. You convinced me buying the reel. This will be my first bait caster. I just used it on the pond because I didn’t have time to get on the kayak and use it. I can’t wait to use it on the saltwater and fight a redfish.
What is the best and you favorite bait/rig you use? For Reds, Trout.

I just got the shimano Slx Xt. For inshore salt water fishing for bass. Was a little scared to use it on the salt water. But now that watched your video I know I’ll be good.

I hv one love it best reel for the money plus I bought one for my wife to put on her new custom rod she has never used baitcaster set it on 4 and used for most of day then dropped to 3 this is badass reel
It seems like you are using it in Saltwater. How is it handling for you since the review? I do a lot of surf fishing for perch and striper in San Francisco waters. I would like to know if it can handle it and are you seeing any issue with the gear rusting on you?

Getting the 151xg for xmas! Been using the scorpion dc for months now and was fiending to get another! Havent washed down the scorpion more than once and ove fished salt and fresh with it! Its a beast!

My dc slx when I use it and leave it for a while on my fishing table the handle gets really hard to turn and I have to rinse it with water to get all the salt off!!!! For me I only do saltwater and don’t get me wrong the slx is sick af but I don’t I don’t think it’s going to last for saltwater....

The micro chip cost $130 for the part alone, not sure if this is the same as the Curado DC just think that should be a major thing to be explained about the DC series, sorry about the rant,love your vids my guy!

Yes it’s good for kayak fishing. Just don’t drop it in the water.

Is it still going strong? I heard that only the curado dc is good in salt water that the bearing are shielded? Only asking because if a year later she still going strong I can just go with her instead of dc

What’s the Action on the Old 18 that you paired the SLX DC with?
Light action. Although it pairs really nice with the ultra light too.
Would this be good for some live bait anchovy with a 1/4 Oz sinker?
No if you want a baitcaster for live bait id recomend looking at a shimano tranx, diawa lexa or penn phathom
What kind if line do you use on it
I know you've used it in saltwater and haven't washed it, but is it saltwater approved? Looking to buy a baitcaster but want to make sure it's saltwater since it's an investment.
Go for the Tranx - absolute workhorse in the salt. OVer a year of hardcore salt use now (with periodic maintenance). Ive had the Scorpion DC seize up on me even with rinsing. But I use it in the south-Asian tropics, so the humidity will definitely be a factor.

It’s a very thin line. Don’t throw anything heavier than 1/8oz in total weight (jig plus plastic). Always keep an eye on knicks.

What kind of artificial did you have on the hook? I try using them and never know what’s best for the salt. Usually do bait fishing
Any paddle tail with a swim hook will work. I like Hogie’s Swimming Jack Black with chartreuse tail.

I had the curado dc love it but its got some weight to it. So i went ahead n made my wallet cry and grabed a metanium and slx dc. I actually like the slx better for cus its lighter and to my the metanium is my go to cus its so damn smooth and can handle weightless a lil bit better than the slx n curado dc. I whacky rig alot.

It is not a Saltwater reel . Corrosion will kill this reel if used in saltwater exclusively.
Curado DC has more bearings and little better quality parts per rep for $60 not worth it to me slx doing great job

Worst reel that I’ve ever bought with rusting on the anti reverse bearing after 3 trips. Replaced bearings 3 times in less than a year. And I oil the bearings after each use. Sending it back to Shimano before the warranty is out.
