We call mince here in Hispanic (Mexican American) households "picadillo". We cook ground beef with whatever veggie you have on hand. Add garlic, onion, cumin tomato sauce. Served soupy alongside with beans and Mexican rice. And of course; flour tortillas ! Im so glad I stumbled onto your videos. Love watching how families eat and live in other countries.

Just came across your video. I've recently gone on the carnivore diet and am always looking for easy meat recipes. I remember mince n tatties well but never thought about doing in the slow cooker! That is going to be so useful, thank you so much. And then up came the pictures of Dunure! I can't tell you how many wonderful memories they brought up for me :) our family used to spend whole days on that beach searching for agates to put in the tumble polisher, I still have some of the stones my Mum kept. I had a very special one my Dad found, but sadly lost it in Ireland some years ago. I'm 71 now, still love stones and will be so happy to do mince in my slow cooker (minus the veg, lol!). What to you was a wee short video turned out to be something very precious for me. Thank you very much.

My grandmother used to make this back in the early 1950's in Edinburgh . There is a real butcher in the village here in Western Australia and the meat and mince is also so outstanding that even I cannot make a mess of it. Turnip hard to get here but the basic mince and tatties (+carrots and onions} is so easy to make and still taste awfy braw. Loved the photos especially of Brodick. Beaches are a wee bit different here however.

This is a favourite dish here in Canada Also, Its a classic. The problem with Bisto & Oxo together is the salt content. When I make mine, I typically use Bisto only then add Cornstarch or Arrowroot as an additional thickener, this way I am not introducing more salt which I don't want. If its not enough salt, I add it when serving myself. I noticed a lot of your cooking is similar or the same as we do things here also. I love your Videos, the remind me of the foods Dad use to make us & have gone back to eating much of these meals mostly due to cost effectiveness & with food prices on the rise, these just make better sense & we always felt good & nourished too :) Thanks for the videos :) Subscribed

This is like what my mom used to make when I was a child. She didn't have a slow cooker back then, so it was done on the stove. It came out amazing like yours has. She always put the peas in about ten or fifteen minutes prior to serving so they would stay bright green. Another version that she made was adding rice to the mix and a can of mushroom soup instead of the thickening. That was one of my favs. My wife doesn't make it that way because she doesn't like mushroom soup. : { If I want it that way, I'll have to make it myself, lol.

Mrs P. and me are having this tomorrow so set it up on the timer to cut in about 9.00. We don't like to hurry in the mornings so by the time we've had a cuppa, shower, brekky read the post etc it'll be on the way...! (We usually about 4.30-5.00pm so that's why it's on early)
I'm surprised you didn't seal the mince in a frying pan - which would've involve breaking it up obviously. I guess we do things differently in the West Country! Oh and we always chop up the spuds and bung them in too, although we think your idea of mash is a better one we'll do that next time. Thankyou! (Lurrrv your accent btw)

I've never had this before, but that looks to have most or all of the makings for a meatloaf dinner here in the states... the consistency is a little different but all the flavors are still the same... and I'm sure that mince beef mixture would be great over some sort of buttered pasta or rice, too.
