- In this video I compare my ever so loved Mara des Bois strawberry to two new varieties. One from Rutgers the other from Cornell. I am quite impressed, but see who is the winner in this taste test.

Hi Ross,
FYI...Nourse Farms, in Mass. sells a wide selection of strawberry varieties including Mara des bois. I purchased 1,000 plants and am in production here in N. Cali. Try containers. Also 3 plants in a 5-ga set at very edge so they tumble down. To recover expenses I set 16 plants in a flat and sell the for $50 ea. once grown out.
Yes on more sun and damp soil.
But the real secret is rock powders, "Azomite", from volcanic source and "Gaia Green" from sedimentary. Azo has 70 micronutrients.
Try dehydrating berries, making salsa, and of course choc dipped...
Blessings on your 2021 garden...
♡
Love this video!! Just bought some Mara des bois after watching. Thanks for posting!!!
Il you want to get one of the top 3 strawberries ranked in France, you should try Ciflorette. Here it is a must and considered by many as #1 in taste and earliness. In Paris weather it fruits as early as the first week of May without any help
I think I'll give this variety a try this year
Have to say I totally agree. I grew some Mara des Bois strawberries this year. I have probably 6 other varieties growing. There is no comparison. They are sweeter but it's also just the amount of flavor and it's so concentrated. I was also not aware that they would keep producing so long. I've been picking strawberries ever since mid-April. I've already filled my little freezer in th garage so I don't have any more space to store any. Now I just eat what I can and can't worry about picking everything or I would go insane.
Does it make lots of runners or none? How much does one plant provide?
Looks delicious.
I’ve heard charlotte is a cross between Mara des bois and Cal 19 and is suppose to be improved from Mara des bois in flavor firmness and how long it lasts.
So my juneberries had a lot of fruit and they were good size BUT they had no sweetest or strawberry flavor I planted than last summer in some gutters then I added potting soil. I was hoping you knew what's going on with these strawberries I think they are Juneberries because they came out in June and now that I'm in July NO berries.
I bought heirlooms Marshalls and Holiday strawberry plants this year. I will have to be patient to try them. Have you or anybody here tried these and compared to Maria de Bois?
If you let the purple strawberry ripen on the plant for a bit longer, it might taste better.
Exactly what I did, Daniel. It did taste better.
I'll stop by to pick up any plants you want to get rid of I'm in Bethlehem, Pa.
Hii Ross I have little bit of issue for my fig they are really not having size on them they very smaller than last year ..
What the problem I am not getting it ..
Because I have fertilized it good as I scheduled but though they are smaller in size
Less water this year? More fruits this year? Less leaves this year? Water is the primary reason.
@@RossRaddi water is good.
But less fruits And a lot of leaves
I can’t find Mara des Bois anywhere. Out of stock. I’d love to get some in containers for fall. Any chance you are selling some crowns or plants?
I've never sold plants mid season. Usually in the winter I dig up quite a bit and sell them. This year I did not :/
If you wait until December, a few nurseries have them cheap.
My strawberries are quite small, do you feed the plants anything? Keep them watered and stuff?
Age. Also when the berries are ripening. How many flowers they have, etc...
@@RossRaddi cool, thanks buddy.
Would love to see you try pineberry plants
Tried them. They're not productive. The white alpine strawberries are better in almost every way.
Ross i have thanks to God the yellow wonder little white alpineberry, but havent tried the taste yet so how did you describe it? Also about the pineberry (strawberry white with red seeds) was the taste alright?
Meinz Schindler ;) up there with Mara de Bois
are they red inside?
Yes!
I try to wait until they're shiny. ..I have an unlabled June bearing strawberry that I picked up at a local nursery. HUGE berries.. very sweet and just the perfect classic flavor and they produced in early May... their first year. I don't know if that's because of our bizzar weather this year or they were in cold storage and blooms were forced early? But they beat the insects! They've sent out masses of healthy runners which I'm very greatful for... 16 plants are now easily 50+ and still going. I kinda feel like I hit the lottery! Just wish I knew what kind they were. Our local True Value sells local gardeners starts as opposed to "Bonnie" or "Burpee" starts. And when I see hand labled healthy starts I know they'll thrive because they've been grown by neighbors. These were just labled "June berries" 😁
Maybe it's Cabot? It's huge..
can I have some seeds I'll pay.
Hey Ross, have you tried musk strawberries?
Not yet. What's the verdict?
@@RossRaddi only got them this year so I'll let you know when I try them
Do slugs go after them?
@@themoonsbluelight I have an infestation. How can anyone grow anything?
Mara des bois is the bomb ty Ross
You got it, Michael.
Hay Ross I sent you a instant message.
The lip smacking between sentences... I'm sorry.
This was the least conclusive test ever 😅
Love the strawberries, hate the rambling talk.
