    I just got some of these for the first time from my local organic market and they are so delicious. They actually taste like strawberries, which a lot of the larger varieties don't.

    I covered my MDB strawberries with a chicken wire cage. That allows the bees to get in and out and do their pollination but it stopped the squirrels, chipmunks, and birds. I just lift it when I need to harvest them.

    I just planted 25 of these, because of your videos on them. I also planted 25 pine berry plants.
    I can’t wait to see how they preform.
    My other ever baring kinda called it quits. I’m happy to be replacing them with something highly recommend.
    My June baring are going nuts right now. I literally pick strawberries 2 times a day.

    Really a superior variety with a sweet and complex/deep flavor especially when compared to more traditionally grown varieties like Albion. Airy flesh that needs to be handled carefully and don’t have a long shelf life in the kitchen. Perfect for being picked and eaten in the garden. For me, they produce June through September but like all strawberries, they are heavy feeders and need to be fertilizer with organic fertilizer every 3 weeks.

    There are indeed earlier and later varieties. My neighbor in the community garden has a huge patch of different strawberry varieties. He's taking strawberries home from half May all the way into Autumn. I'm planting a similar patch now, such an easy crop once dialed in.

    Just a tip to reduce slugs with strawberries, plant them in a tower, like a Greenstalk and if you set the tower in a large tray of water to create a moat, you will never have slugs it is kept full of water.

    Loving my Mara des bois. I’m ripping out all of my quinault this fall and transplanting the Mara runners. There’s no comparison between the two.

    Glad to see your strawberry season is going well! I’ve already been getting flushed of ozark beauty everbearings. And my June bearings are starting now too. I’m experimenting with an old viking variety called “Old North Sea” that was recovered from Denmark I believe. I think I’ll add the French variety you’re suggesting next too

    Thanks Ross, I planted these last year and got to taste a few in peak summer (July/August) and was super impressed with the taste. This year it produced a lot but I am disappointed as it is not sweet and lacks the flavor I got last year. Wondering if you know the reason. Can it be the rain? I live in Ohio zone 6b.

    • @RossRaddi
      @RossRaddi  2 роки тому

      Rain doesn't help. Some of the plants produce berries that aren't up to the normal quality for whatever reason.

      @@RossRaddi in my case it's not just one plant. I think it's the Ohio soring rain..All the strawberries I got so far this year was just meh.. now that the temperature started going up , i can notice that the quality is getting way better..berries are sweeter now... thank you again for suggesting this variety..its the best tasting strawberries as long as rain don't ruin it 😁. I am going to try shuksan variety this year.

    Does it keep out aphids? That’s the only issue I’ve been having with my strawberries as using pure chicken droppings keeps all animals away :-))

    • @RossRaddi
      @RossRaddi  2 роки тому

      Those chicken dropping may be the cause of your aphids. Aphids are more attracted to plants with high nitrogen.
      Personally I'm not sure if the netting will help. The few aphids I get quickly get cleaned up by ladybugs in the early spring. They're never on my strawberries.

      @@RossRaddi awesome thanks Ross! How do you attract more lady bugs to your plants as I have aphids all over my cherries and columnar yellow apple trees
