Not gonna lie, I wasn't feeling your layout at first but after the plants were added I changed my mind. Looks good.
I've never heard of using sponges like that at the bottom of the tank! Very good idea. It basically turns the tank into its own sump filter.
Long, no adds, I like it. Good job! 👍🏻
All that landscaping and the frogs immediately go onto the glass.
Lol
Obviously you've never kept tree frogs XD
@@pixel3610 obviously you've never kept interesting animals like fish or snakes
@@aarongonzalez4458 tree frog usually sleep on the glass and background I have kept tree frogs
@@aarongonzalez4458 I've looked at your videos. You don't take good care of what you have and are like 10 and also you do not have frogs of any kind so please be quiet and research and watch things on the animals you have
I really enjoyed watching how this thing came together.
Nice video man. I had a really basic newt tank growing up but wanted to get into Paludariums more recently. Your video is probably the most informative one, I'll check out your site.
Another great setup the fern was a great addition
First time looking at your videos, nothing like a little piece of nature in the house or office . Love it, thank you. Looking forward to keep looking and learning from you.
Thank you very much!
Wow! You make it look so simple! I can’t wait to build mine! Thank you so much for this tutorial! Subscribed!
Glad to help!
Really amazing video and very informative... Glad I came across your channel
Excellent idea using he matala! I may have to try this soon!
is it non toxic?
@@evanquarterman7589 No way. He would definitely only recommend toxic materials for plants.
Great idea with the matala mat!
Well done. Really nice.
Long duration worth to watch mate
Gorgeous. Thanks for explaining everything you did and the plant names. Just fantastic. The mister was superb. I was just fascinated by your video. Impressed.
thank you for making these videos, they have become my newest addiction... i love how they turn out, i love watching you build them, i love everything about these videos :) currently ordering your supply to make a bioactive tank for my bearded dragon and my milk snake :)
Thank you so much!! your support is greatly appreciated :)
I was so happy to find out your in Houston! I live about 45 minutes away from your shop. I am currently working on a project to convert my home office into a reptile/amphibian paradise. As of now I only have one well established vivarium housing, believe it or not, a reticulated python. Everything in the viv was carefully selected to not only be native to Southeast Asia, but also be safe for a wide variety of animals to ensure that it can house a new animal once my retic out grows it. I just purchased a 75 gallon tank yesterday (1/18/19) and will be creating my next project throughout the next few months. While I am more interested in Asian ecosystems its impossible to have a complete collection of bio active ecosystems without having one dedicated to the Amazon Basin. I plan to build this new 75 gal tank into a paludarium for either a small specie of snake, gecko, lizard or perhaps some tree or dart frogs. I cannot wait to meet you in person and look forward to doing business with you soon!
Incredible!
Dude your vivs are way too cool looking!!
so cool. might use a similar setup for my red bellied toads
I loved the awesome video.
love you video, well explained, very easy to follow and understand. awesome video. love the setup.
Thank you!
You are a rockstar dude!
Thanks for the cool ideas! I got my first beardie a few days ago :)
You're a naturalistic legend
Cole Logan no
@Blood Eagle 88 have you seen serpadesign?
@@corvina_y yes your point hes a god theres a difference from legend and god
I like your "no nonsense approach." People make it too complicated trying to impress people with their knowledge.
One of these would look dope right near my Reef aquarium.
I love it, great job. 👍
Appreciate it : )
so awesome, I love the natural look and the frogs are very cool 👍.
Awesome video.
i think your business is genius! 😊 very impressed.
Thank you!
Awesome vid. U just got another subscriber.
Thanx 4 input
awesome video
Damn.. love how everything is right at your fingertips...
That is the point ;)
Josh could you make a video of a Paludarium, for some fire belly newts, fish shrimp, snails etc? What products would you use?
I love this idea, makes the tank so much lighter.
I HATE heavy tanks!

Thank you!
Looks like real outside nature
Great.. I will follow you right now :D
Wow!
Nice
Just curious: How humid is it in that room? I mean.. in the room where you keep the terrariums/vivariums?
Cool vid
That's amazing I'm subscribed after the first video. And one question, do you ever have to clean that tank completely out?
negative and thank you!
You ROCK!!!
Thanks, Jeff!
This is great keep it up
Thank you!
The Bio Dude Josh Halter hey bro u sale tadpoles from those frogs???
The Bio Dude Josh Halter whats the name of the sponge like substrate you us? Trying to find it online?
www.thebiodude.com/collections/vivaria-drainage/products/supergrow-matala-lightweight-drainage-layer
When will you have the matala available?
it would prolly be cheaper from a non hobbyist source
Hi Josh, i had a question on the bedding/substrate you'd recommend for a bearded dragon vivarium. im looking for something that is easy to clean and it safe for my beardie. any alternatives away from calci-sand or anything that could impact the beardie.
Pre washed play sand and silica sand mixed with eco earth dried out depending upon if you want plants or not
tell me About your terrarium lights..where did you get them.o
I'm wanting one for mine
I really love this and you created a work of art in such a short time! It would probably take me all day to do what you did. :p I've watched a lot of videos for inspiration on ideas for designing my first exo terra and this is the one I want to follow. Thank you so much for this video! (and your other videos as well)
Thank you very much for the support.
The frogs looks so beautiful. Too bad for me, Im scared of frogs 😁. But I love your set up.
Could you possibly do an up right paludarium in say a exo terra 12x12x24 or a zoomed paludarium I am really interested to see someone do this
would putting the misters in the front top aimed to the rear work just as well? so you dont mist the front middle of the tank which obstructs viewing? or would it still do the same thing?
I have a fogger in my tank and it’s gets humid but it only looks so bad on a phone camera, in person it’s almost better because everything gets so shiny and vibrant from the water in. My opinion lol
Sweet, makes me want frogs lol 😲👌
Hi! Thanks for your super informative videos! What level density is your matala? Is it Matala brand or a generic brand? Did you get it on Amazon? Also, for an American toad enclosure with a pothos plant growing, would you recommend your terra flora or terra fauna basic kit?
It is the Matala brand, but I have been unable to sell it because of the super high shipping - They want almost $900 in shipping for a pallet >.> So I found a different brand which is what I have been using.
Awesome videos given me lots of ideas. Can you supply this Matala in a small quantity to the uk? Ideally the size of the biggest piece you’ve used here. Thank you
That sounds so familiar. Hahaha I use to keep green tree frogs, until my son left the paludarium open after he fed them and in the Australian heat they baked. But that stuff looks great. Going see if we have it here.
crazy shrimp lady have you gotten anymore tree frogs since?
Will you do a follow up video to show how everything grows in?
Yes~!
The Bio Dude Josh Halter bro u sale tadpoles??? I want some of those frogs,I got got 20 red eyed and a couple other different frog tads, got 30 more coming, but I have been lookin for those frogs for a minute well tads...let me know
PSYC LINEZ have you gotten any borneos yet?
Now I want one
They do that to you, don't they. :)
Awesome setup. I just have one question, how do u maintain humidity with a screen top?
Automatic misting : )
Could something similar be done on a smaller scale for garter snakes?
great design! I have problems with my isopods and springtails drowning in my paludarium. can you tell me if your having the same problem? and any recommendations to correct the problem? thx in advance for your reply.
Bobby, put a small piece of cork bark flats in the water (they float). Insects get in water they can climb out!
Is this guy training dragons? xD
I can't unhear it. Thanks
Looks like him, too 😂
I had a question regarding Matala as a false bottom for paludarium set up : is it safe to use if planning to use an aquarium heating cable on the bottom glass panel (so right under the matala)? thnx for answering and for posting such great vids !
Yes! As long as you are ensuring that not too much weight is over it, but with the dense structure you should not have any issues.
If you need, you can check out Matala USA for their FAQS page with the dos and don'ts of their product.
I was interested in creating a bioactive paludarium with a king snake . simialar to your corn snake build but I was wondering about adding fish, so a paludarium came to mind. Aside from maybe food could fish add any benefits to an ecosystem ? I'm not sure if fish sicknesses could transmit to any reptiles I have in the enclosure.
Hey bio dude where did you get that stand from?
Great video as always! I had a question about the bark. Will it not rot over time? That might be a dumb question but I am just curious.
Yes it will, but that is the point : )
I love this! Question, though; I want to create one of these for a crocodile skink - would the pool at the side be enough for the skink to drink, do you think? Should I add another bowl? And are there any other adjustments you'd recommend? Grateful to anyone for answers, thank you!
Hey Bradi,
I would ensure that the water level is not more than 0.5" They are not the best swimmers - but yes, that would be just fine! Make sure there are cork pieces or branches in the water so the little one can get out and so the feeders do not drown. Live plants that can handle the moisture content!
Could this set up be used by Red Eyed Crock skinks?
I would potentially need a thicker substrate layer though since they do like to dig from what I've read.
I would obviously tweak it a bit, but I mean keeping them in a paludarium.
Alexandre, yes. Here is an example of one of my croc skink kits - www.thebiodude.com/collections/lizard-bioactive-kit/products/crocodile-skink-lizard-bioactive-kit
Makes me anxious thinking about how hard/ annoying it’s going to be to get to that filter 😂
Apart from that nice video!
Oh how I wish I had seen this video before I set up my dart frog tank (HUGE FAIL). The biospheres and barrier and ABG mix and plants ... and oh that expanding foam background I worked SO hard on. Blah. Next time it will be so much better.
Can you please do a set up for a Mountain Horned Dragon. I'm very interested in getting 2, but I want to have a proper setup ready and established first.
Wow
I searched through the comments to see if you answered this, but how would you change the filter pads? It seems like you would have to tear the tank apart would the filter to change it out.
Where can you get matala sheets? The supergrow sold on your website isn't quite big enough for my tank, I need a 24x24. Any options you can recommend?
Can you do a bio kit for larger snakes? Like Burmese & Retics. I would love a set up like yours but I only work with big snakes.
Should you add more springtales and isopods over time after you set up an enclosure like this or just let them be and populate over time??
nice frogs
wish i was able to afford a natural set up like this. one day!
Do you need to rinse the gravel first? the matalla?
I see you have mister attached what do you do in case it over flows with water because of the mister?
Is the Matala a good substitute for the hydro balls
These vids are addicting 😂wandering if you’ve done any type of bioactive pink tongue skink enclosures
Hey there! we had a video that was removed for a channel revamp, the care team can get you set up with a kit - reach out to customercare@thebiodude.com so we can get you started!
I have a ball python and I have the 20 gallon kit. Can you transfer over the soil and everything in the cage to a bigger cage like a 40 gallon tank when they need to upgrade? But obviously purchase more bags of firma soil and biodegradables.
You sure can!!
Quick question, I'm seeing some tiny white worms on my new viv glass is this a concern?
Why did you switch from "Matala" media to a different brand/media?
I’ve been trying to find an answer to a question hopefully you could answer it for me! With the bioactive setups, how often should you clean the tank? Do you have to switch the dirt out regularly, if so how often? Maybe you could make a video on the basic maintenance of these type of tanks 🌱 thank you!
Can we get an update on the supergrow
Does the cork bark rot eventually with being in water constantly?
So i have a question. I want to put a nano aquarium (3.5 gallon long rectamgle) with some small fish (easily consumable for my baby male ball python) but I don't know how well the snake will do with that amount of water.
What is the black stuff in the bottom called that you described at the beginning? I couldn’t make out what you said I got “Metalla”
That frog said I’m finna risk it all 21:29
Could I use this same setup for my crocodile skinks??
If the filter is placed in the matala, will it still work?
Very nice my brother! Just subscribed. where is a good place to get some cheap strip lights like that. of course I would like to get some nice ones to, but I also have like a hundred and twenty different tanks and cages that I would like to hook up, so looking for something a little cheaper LOL
Hi Hugh. Thank you! The light used in this build is a Tincman LED light that can be found on my website here:
www.thebiodude.com/search?type=product&q=tincman
where can i find the black drainage stuff?
Finally I found someone who didn't use mountains of silicone and expanding foam and glue to put it all together, just mimicking what nature actually does. I have some questions. If I wasn't automating the misting, how often should I mist the tank? I live in (Subtropical) New Zealand, we get pretty humid in summer and our winters are relatively mild. One of the only frogs we are allowed to keep here are Green and Golden Bell Frogs, which thrive in our wild (we find them in our backyard sometimes lol). So could I just mist a couple of times a day to keep the plants healthy and mimic rainfall? My other question, is do you have to dismantle and change out the filtration part everynow and then? If so how often? Or can you leave this permanently growing and just change out the water occasionally?
Can I use this same basic build without a mistking for a croc skink
Never run a filter dry and you need to fill the reservoir with water
It's just a tutorial and the guy clearly is not comfortable in front of a camera. I'm sure the filter is fine.
