  • In this video the Dude discusses how to utilize your BioDude bioactive Terra Flora kit. This terrarium is being built for poison dart frogs and discusses their husbandry requirements when setting up this type of terrarium. Be sure to subscribe and visit www.thebiodude.com
    Note: We upgraded the HydroGrow - It is no longer white and a different type of drainage layer. You can find the info here:
    www.thebiodude...
    www.thebiodude...
    Also, for the bromeliads: It is best to create some open area from the roots so they attach into the wood for efficiently. Cutting a tiny portion of the base on the bottom to expose as well as trimming the roots can make a huge difference in your success mounting vs. planting. Sorry if it was not clear on that! I got this recommendation from Troy Goldberg at Troys Tropical Garage on UA-cam.

      I know it's old but you could also use a turkey baster/long dropper to reach down under the substrate against the glass to the water basin. Or if you have an open pond, you could pull water out of that as it gets too high

    Hi, I've been growing broms for a long time and i think that the main reason why offsets die from rotting before getting roots is that people keep them far too wet. The cups should be wet but many broms hate having their roots too wet or the base gets too wet before it can take root. Many of the mini hybrid Neos will root fairly quickly especially if dipped into rooting hormone. Transplanting offsets is less likely to transmit disease into a tank. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying your rooted broms aren't a good idea, of course rooted ones will get going a lot quicker than non-rooted offsets. Great video!

    • @TheBioDudeJoshHalter
      @TheBioDudeJoshHalter  7 років тому +1

      That and depending on where you have the nozzles the consistent shaking can mess up the front doors (hinges) eventually - word to the wise with Exo Terra's their door hinges are cheap and the less shaking/messing with occured the longer they last.

    Hi! Me and my boyfriend are trying to build our first dart frog terrarium. We've got almost everything at home now, but we're not entirely sure what to use for lightning. We want to use real plants. We've been told we then need to have a uvb light for plants, lamp for warmth and a normal lamp. Is this all necessary? I thought I saw you using only one light. Please let us know!

    • @TheBioDudeJoshHalter
      @TheBioDudeJoshHalter  6 років тому

      Hi Ilja, for a planted bio-active vivarium you need 2- 3 different lights. You need your: heat source, depending on species ; and UVB for your animals as well as a grow light for your plants. The UVB lighting used for reptiles does not produce the right level of Kelvins and Lumens to promote healthy plant growth. We do sell a product called a "Grow&Glow" light that is specialized to meet the needs of your plants. You can find it on our website at TheBioDude.com

      We do not. We sort them, store them and rotate them and inspect them prior to bagging. Selling leaves in the scale that we do is actually quite challenging to do sustainably and ethically.
