Only a third way through your deep description and incredible step by step explanation of the variations in models fuels and prices 👍 Downside the laggy gearbox the low rear mirror , the laggy info screen and its set up , which is angled and on bright days through the great glassroof gives bad reflection on the info screen , so takes your most important focus off the road veiw. Will say the 7 yr warranty and price is biggest carrots. Best part for a passenger is the rear seats 10 out of 10 in comfort.
Ive watched probably over 30 MG HS videos so far..this is the top of the top.. brilliant..well done..i can see..you must be a smart human..well done and thanks
I think that this coverage of the MG HS PHEV is probably one of the most useful reviews I have seen and I have seen hundreds if not thousands of UA-cam videos of all sorts of cars. Well done!!!!!
You've convinced me, I will definitely put it on my test drive list when I replace my car later this year. I realize you are an enthusiast now but you have very good reason to be. The 7 year warranty is a major for me as many modern cars seem to have electronic glitches within the first 5 years, my own Hyundai included!
Thank you for watching. Yes definitely consider it as an alternative and go for a test drive. I test drove the Hyundai Tucson as a comparison and although the Hyundai is a good car. Considering the gadgets and price, for me there was no contest
Quite simply the most thoroughly researched and well presented honest and accurate owners review of the fabulous MG HS that I've come across to date. Well done Stuart, superb work with so much background work done by you. Now that my MG HS is in my grubby little mits, I came back and once again turned to this video as both a means of entertainment and just brilliant information. Many thanks for your hard work, for all of us HS owners and prospective owners, it was sure worth it.
Thank you very much Paul, glad you enjoyed it and found it useful. It's amazing comments and appreciation like yours that made the filming and refilming and editing and re-editing worth it!!!
An absolutely incredible review mate. Fantastic walk-through with not only the information provided but a full look in the car.And not only that but seeing it out and about in action is like nothing else. Usually you just get a comprehensive list of information but getting the visuals to go with it as well was absolutely worth it. Godbless
Thank you so much! Yes I found that with most car reviews they probably have the car for a couple of hours so they say things that are quite superficial. I wanted to give the nitty gritty so went a bit in depth... Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for watching, yes consider a test drive and compare with similar SUV's, I think it will definitely hold its own against more expensive brands. I agree, I think PHEV is the way forward both for cost and for the environment.
Wow!!! This is one of the best review videos I have seen after a long time. Fantastically explained in detail.... the video creator spent a lot of time in order to do his research. Well done!!! Keep up the good work.
This review was just what I was looking for, all the pros of a hybrid. as I’m looking for a new car this year but with the rising fuel prices didn’t know if it was worth going hybrid or petrol but after seeing this review made it Cristal clear for me and MG I’m definitely putting on my short list.
Thank you for watching and the support. Yes I agree totally, hybrid and PHEV is definitely the way forward. After seeing the fuel beneffits of hybrids, I find it strange that manufacturers still produce non hybrids. Both in terms of fuel efficiency and for the environment, non hybrids just dont make sense!
I don't usuallly give reviews, but this one deserves it. Well balanced article on ICE vs Hybrid and Pure EVs. You also covered real world aspects of family motoring and not just how fast is the car and scratchy plastic syndrome. I'm still undecided though with new models from all makes coming out month by month, its not an easy choice to make considering changes in government grants and the year 2030 getting closer. Great work anyhow.
Thank you Clement for watching and the support, I watched quite a few reviews and a lot was quite superficial, a car is a big investment so wanted to go down the route of letting the buyer making an informed choice of what it's like to really drive and own a PHEV hybrid. Yes it's an hard choice as there are quite a lot of options, I'm not sure if you are in the UK, in the UK it seems newer models come out elsewhere first before hitting the uk market. So it could be years before a newer better model comes out. Honestly for what you get and for the price you pay, you could buy a different brand in 3 years time and i'm sure the features would be similar to what the HS has now. If you are in the market for a new car, it's probably worth going for a test drive in the HS and compare it with 2 of its closest competitors, you will find it will hold its own!
I think you made a good choice, and amazing that you can pick it up so soon. There is a lot of new toys to play with so you may want to rewatch parts of the video when you get the new car. Feel free to ask any questions that spring to mind.
Apologies if this has been mentioned already but the Aircon does work in ev mode it's only the heating that requires the petrol engine for a while before the car warms up
Hi yes it has been mentioned previously but good to comment as other people can take note. Yes I realised this after making the video. It hadn't been hot since I took delivery of the car so didn't get a proper chance to try out the aircon while making the video
Thank you for a very informative and well-produced Video. I am from the UK but live in Thailand (29 years) where your HS PHEV was probably made, I run the English language side of the Thailand MG Fan club so I am quite familiar with the MG range. A few small differences with the local market (no heated seats) as the environment is a little different. I found your point about MG being perceived as a Chinese car company interesting. MG has a huge production facility in Thailand as we have a highly educated and very professional workforce. I have been to the MG factories here a few times and also to many other car factories here, I have to say the MG factory is the cleanest, most organized, and seemingly efficient especially compared to Ford or Chevrolet (closed now). I have a 1964 MG B here in British racing green and original wire wheels. Extremely fun to drive as most locals have never seen one but the weather is too hot to use often. I also have a first version of the MG 5 (sports saloon) which I don’t think you got in the UK. fantastic car with amazing performance and driving characteristics. 5 years not a single problem and I drive it hard (maximum, speeding fine here about 5 UK ponds) I have a 2018 MG GS, which was the forerunner to the HS and their first attempt at an SUV. I love the car as it's really sporty But it is not very refined. I have driven a few HS’s and one HS PHEV but not for any extended trips. Your review will make me take a closer look at it. We only get a 4-year warranty here, at a major MG event I asked a senior MG executive why they give longer warranties for Thailand-built cars in other countries. His response made a lot of sense. “All other manufacturers only give 3 years in Thailand so when they extend to 4 to match us, we will simply increase to 5”. “Then 6 then 7”. “We are confident in our cars; we can go further if we have to”. I found that to be a very reassuring comment. Once again thank you and let us know how you feel when you have had it a year.
Thank you John for watching and the support. Your insight made for interesting reading. I had no idea MG had such a big manufacturing base in Thailand, I was under the impression that most of the manufacturing was done in China. Obviously, I wouldnt have expected China to be the only manufacturing base but certainly their main one. When UK buyers discuss the wait for their cars, a lot mention they are waiting shipping from China, so this is a completely new revelation for me. What I was aware of was Thailand spec MG cars have a lot of extra "toys" which I would have liked as standard which unfortunately we don't get on UK specs. This would be both OEM and aftermarket as mentioned by an expat who lives in Thailand. With regard to the GS, I guess as its an earlier model, I have heard mixed views on the car regarding reliability, but happy that it's been good to you. One thing I do like about the GS was the front grille, I think if they kept the same style for the HS, it would have been an even more stunning car!
Although I have on order the MG HS Exclusive DCT. This is the most informative review of the MG HS I have seen. There is so much information that applies to the petrol even though this is based on the MG phev. I enjoyed the video, thanks for the information. I can’t wait for my new car now and try out all the large variation of gadgets.
Thank you Danny for your kind words and glad you found it useful. It's a good car and you will love it. Hope your car arrives soon, and feel free to ask any questions that you may have after you take delivery!
Great unbiased video, I have seen loads of others but yours is by far the best especially as an owner and investing your cash and time to help others. I had my test drive a couple of days ago and completely won over, faultless drive experience. Down to negotiation now with the dealer but 100% convinced it is the car for us as it ticks all the boxes.
Thank you, glad you found it useful. Definitely a decision you won't regret, you get a lot of car for the money. If I may give you one more advice, take out GAP insurance. My car was written off after 2 years in a non fault accident, because the insurance company couldn't get hold of the A frame. So protect yourself, it's cheap if you shop around, don't get from the dealer. I still the car is great, that I replaced it with a like for like, just in a different colour
Today, I just ordered my MG HS Phev (ex demo car, so a great deal) As a result of your video.....😊 It fully made my mind up after watching it, so collect it in four days' time and cannot wait. Huge thank you.
Very informative video, the couple of things you didn’t mention were the fact the steering wheel doesn’t adjust both ways and I couldn’t find an outside temp indicator 🫣 I read somewhere that on some models the a/c is vented into the armrest storage compartment, nice touch if it’s true 👍
Thank you very much. I'm not sure what you meant by steering wheel doesn't adjust both ways though? Yes I'm sure there's an outside temp indicator in the car, I do remember sewing that. And on the PHEV the armrest is cooled if you have the ac on. I'm not sure if other models have this though
Great video. Thanks for all the hard work you put into this. I’m arranging a test drive today. Unfortunately, the Affinity scheme ended 30th June 2021.
Thank you very much, hope you enjoy the test drive! As far as Im aware from what I read in the forums, the affinty deal is still about. Maybe call up a couple of dealers to double check?
Great video. Much more helpful than the car sales man I spoke to today. I think you should have his job. Thanks for taking the time to give us all of the information we need before looking to buy one of these cars.
Thank you Jake for your kind words! To be fair to the salespeople, when I bought the car I only knew the basics. A lot of the toys I only discovered afterwards while doing research for the video. Glad you found it useful and if you have any questions feel free to ask so you can decide if this is the right car for you!
Than you very much, glad you enjoyed it. Car reviews are not normally what I make videos about but I will release a review on the E-Corsa as I got that for a hire car recently
@@unicorntoyparty4929 I really appreciated it! I'm moving from the USA to NZ and was unfamiliar with the MG brand. I'd seen a few other videos on the HS EV but yours was (by FAR) the most useful!
Congratulations, you must be so excited! I know some people have been waiting a long time for theirs. If you think of any questions after picking up the car, feel free to message and I will answer if I can
@@unicorntoyparty4929 I am trying to look around and understand if the MGEHS has a normal Sim Card slot or is it E-sim. Can you help me with this answer. p.s. really cute site the Unicorn ToyParty.
@@JohnKoczynski Thank you very much John Im in a few MG forums and I don't recall anyone asking that question before, so sorry I can't help with that. Try joining one of the MG european facebook groups, if you post the question on there, Im sure a fellow EHS user will know the answer. I think its a EHS thing as UK spec doesnt have it.
Thank you for watching. Almost a year of ownership now, and no faults and no regrets either. I guess it comes down to luck with any manufacturer. Any car could have problems, but general consensus is thats its reliable! You could go for a test drive and see, you will find the build quality is good
@@unicorntoyparty4929 thanks for your reply. Just did the test drive last weekend. My wife and I absolutely love this car. The only part holding us is the reliability but thanks for confirming which make us much confident!
@@zag7426 i did think and still do think its amazing value for what you get compared with the korean and japanese cars. Especially if you qualify for the discount scheme!
If you use it on electric only and city driving the mileage shows 32 miles but you can definitely get 40 miles range. At high speeds the electric depletes quickly so save motorway for petrol
Fantastic video, I have watched lots of reviews none of them are as detailed and cleverly explained. We live in Australia and bought one yesterday . We 'll use the Car mostly on EV mode as my wife works from home ( solar panels installed ) and the only bad news watching your video was that we can't use the AC or heater on EV mode . I guess we'll find a way to work it out as here it can get really hot and quite chilly ( Adelaide). If you find any other tricks please share them if you can. Again your video is brilliant . Thank you for sharing and I'll susbribe with pleasure to support your efforts. Cheers. Anthony . A corsican in Adelaide ;-)
Hi Anthony thank you very much for the support. Since doing the video, I have learned you definitely need the petrol engine to use the heater. However, if you set the AC to low instead a particular temperature, you can still use the AC in EV. Also the heated seats although not as good as heater on full blast is decent enough if it's not too cold. Feel free to ask any questions you may come across
@@unicorntoyparty4929 Hi, I hope you are well,. First we love the car, got it now for 3 weeks, however I have a few questions for you. Take the time no need to rush to answer. - We use the car almost 100 % EV mode . Daily commute is 30 km.Do you think we should run in hybrid mode sometime to keep the engine healthy? And how often. -We charge for now with the granny charger as we don't need the fast charge for our use , I have solar and can run other appliances while charging, is it a problem to use the granny charger? MG here said it's not. - Do you think charging everyday a bit is better than a big charge every 2 days? -what should be the voltage display for the 12v battery? -Also, is the app working with it ? Doesn't look it is. Have a good weekend. Again take the time . I would really appreciate your opinion but understand it's time consumming for you. Regards Anthony
@@AnthonyGeronimi Hello Anthony, Thank you for your comments and glad you like the car. I still think it's an amazing car now. I will try to answer as many of your questions as I can. As far as I am aware from experience and from the forums, there is no need to keep the engine healthy. But I understand some people say to refresh the petrol in the car. So to top it up as it may go stale? I only fill up the petrol about once every 3 months as I only use petrol if I go long distance or over 40mph When I did research for the video, I did come across a video on youtube where a person did a test and measured the temperature of the cables when charging on granny charger. It was a few oC higher when charging. I cant remember the video but if you do a search Im sure you will find it eventually. As a precaution I installed a proper charger. But if you charge in colder weather I cant see it being a problem. But in summer if it's 30oC+ I would be extra careful With regards to charging daily or not. As far as I'm aware there isn't a consensus of what is better. I would choose what is more convenient for you. As battery depreciation hasn't become a issue and if it drops really badly it is covered under the warranty. I have cheap electricity now after midnight so I full charge it then. I will check the normal battery for you tomorrow. The App doesnt work here in uk or Europe, but I first saw the app from someone in Thailand and it works there. It depends on the country as to whether the governement allow it or not. I hope that helps!
Hi Stuart, Best ever review to date, I have all the knowledge you have explained so well, reading other comments not more to add in, it makes one think of different makes, the niggles as said I agree with, others, not said was Heated front and rear screens, must in cold conditions, Great Tutorial, Best regards welshman 2081
Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I tried to cover as much as I could hence the long video. Coming up to 2 years now and I would still buy the car again. I'f I'm picky I would ask for heated windscreen like ford's, a heads up display and heated steering wheel. But those you only find on high end cars. All in all I find it amazing value for what I paid for it.
The best and comprehensive MG HS PHEV video I have seen here in UA-cam. Are you able to give comment on the Stop and Go feature of the adaptive cruise control? Do we need to step the pedal again after a full stop or will it automatically restart and start moving without doing anything? Huge thumbs up 👍 Thanks a lot.
Hi harry thank you for your kind words and glad you liked it. Yes of course. After the car is completely stationary with adaptive cruise control. When the car senses the car in front moving off, a warning comes on the dash with a sound. It asks you to step on the gas / accelerator pedal to resume. If the car doesnt come to a complete stop, the car will automatically continue following the car in front without you needing to touch the pedals
Do you know if the MG EHS 2021 can use the iPhone/Android App (MG iSmart) as in MG EZ 2022 to run for example the heater in cold weather? Thanks A lot for the very detailed video.
Thank you! I haven't heard anything about the new MG EHS can use Ismart yet, its still early days I think more news will come out in the next few months
Well that is the best video on the MG on UA-cam. I pick my new HS EXCLUSIVE up in February also in Dynamic red. Can’t wait Thank you for the video Paul Could you also tell me what the paddles are for on the automatic
Great review thanks, one thing I wish I could see on a review is actual measurements for the boot space, being a young family trying to figure whether our double pram will fit in the back.
Thank you. Glad you liked it. My kids have grown up so I don't need to use buggies anymore. So I forgot to cover this part. The boot I would say is reasonable for a suv but it's not huge. You could probably fit a double buggy but not much else. If you really would like to know the fit. Feel free to send me some measurements and I will check it for you.
@@DC_MA it will definitely fit but probably not much extra storage space. Boot is approx 100x85x70. Height is around 45 at the boot sliding cover level. Bear in mind 70 is the highest point of the boot and it's like a triangle as the boot slopes at the back. If you are definitely interested, it maybe worth going for a test drive as that would give you a definite yes or no to buy or not. Based on specs I decided to buy already and the test drive just confirmed it
@Unicorn ToyParty thanks mate. I have ordered one already was seeing if i needed a new pram more than anything but measuring up the xtrail I'm coming from its actually pretty similar. I'll have 1 out of the pram in the next few months so will downsize to a single soon anyway. Definitely looking forward to not dealing with prams and rear facing seats, makes car shopping a lot easier lol
@@DC_MA In terms of size i think visually they are very similar. Yeah I'm so glad I don't need to worry about buggies anymore. But we still need car seats until about 11 or so. I'm not sure which version you ordered, but you may want to consider car seat protectors. Especially if you got the leather version as I find the car seats leave a dent even after a short period. This is the one i got amzn.to/3MWKrIq
The HS is a good car, best bet is to go for a test drive and compare with similar cars like the tucson and ford. The mpg I quoted on the video is accurate, but because most of my journeys are local 95% of my trips are on pure ev only. Especially with the price of petrol so I cant add any extra on mpg figures. I don't really use petrol unless I hit the motorway
Thank you for watching. No unfortunately it doesn't have ventilated seats. Ventilated seats are still quite rare, I think only really expensive cars have those
The AC works as normal, if you have AC on low, it is possible to still drive in pure EV. If you want stronger AC then it would need to be in petrol hybrid mode. No I haven't come across any problems with mine yet!
Really great review of the HS, ive saved this as im no doubt going to have to watch it a few times. Do you know what the star button does on the steering wheel? I cant seem to find any explanation in the manual or online? Hope you can help and thanks again for the video.
Thank you very much for the support. I have never used the star button. But from what i gather on mg forums, you can program the * key to be a shortcut button for phone / home / car. Hope that helps and feel free to ask if you need help with anything else!
I liked the video, apart from miss pronouncing the 'H' as hech. I subscribed anyway. Furthermore, I have the car as shown, I love it, utterly brilliant. Keep it up.
Thank you very much. Yes it does charge in normal mode albeit only a little, the charge setting is adjustable but to be honest probably not that energy efficient to charge the battery that way.
Thank you very much, glad you liked it. Unfortunately the dacia video is unlikely to happen as I don't do car reviews full time so unlikely to be able to get hold of one. I did get the opportunity of driving an e- corsa for a while so a video on that will be forthcoming
Thank you very much! Unfortunately someone crashed into my car and it was written off. Although the car did very well and protected my kids. I liked the car so much, I went out and bought exactly the same one again So if you are considering it, see that as an endorsement!
@@unicorntoyparty4929 Thank you for your response and so pity you had an accident with the first one. I have a car but I read reviews about the EHS maybe for a future buy here in Greece. Chris
@@ChrisSide thanks. It's ok, we were a little shaken but safe. Shame as I liked the red, my mg now is blue. Evs are improving all the time so maybe when you change your car, you may get even more functions!
Appreciate your effort answering all comments. Have you tried the scheduled charging that comes with Pod Point? i.e. you plug the cable in but charging only starts at midnight for e.g I heard some owners facing issues doing so
No problem, you're welcome. No I haven't tried scheduling the charge. The electricity tariff i'm on doesnt have economy night option so there's no financial incentive for me to charge overnight. I find it more convenient to charge up to 80% when I need and if I go to a free supermarket charge point I charge the rest there
Wow. This was so informative. Brilliant. I'm considering MG HS PHEV but I'm concerned about motorway fuel consumption. I'll be doing 160 miles trip, motorway only, a few times a month and my current car only does 39 MPG in those conditions. Do you know what is the consumption petrol on long motorway trips once the battery has been depleted? Thank you :)
Thank you, glad you liked it. Unfortunately i havent tested motorway driving with battery depleted. I tend to keep battery for below 40mph as i know at high speed it depletes quickly. So i save battery for both city ends and just let car do its hybrid thing on the motorway. From what i gather from forums even pure petrol model gets 40+ so imagine phev will be similar but a little less as its a heavier car.
I currently have an HS Exclusive Auto but shortly will be moving to PHEV. Just to say that the best consumption I have had from the pure petrol version was on a trip from Kent to Glasgow. 460 miles involving motorway and country lane driving. Thanks to some 50 miles per hour zones on the motorway I achieved 57mpg using E mode on the gearbox. Three quarters of a tank. I don't drive with a heavy foot and when I clear the cumulative fuel consumption figures I am always averaging around 41mpg compared with the brochure 36/37. I am looking to the PHEV to beat these numbers by a bit of margin. Can't wait to get it.
@@bernardbradbury7774 I pulled the trigger and got the PHEV a few months back. It was a pre-owned, late 2020 model so well ran-in. I did 1000 km trip with a mix of motorway and country roads last month. Averaged 6.6 l/100 km, which I believe is 42 UK mpg. That was 4 days of driving with no charging of battery, 5 adults and full boot. I consider that a success but keeping in mind that I stayed well below speed limit on the motorways. I did a bunch of tests going 10 km at a time at 100, 110 and 120 km/h and resetting trip computer after each segment to write down the MPG. At 120 the fuel consumption goes through the roof. Talking 30 mpg. It's a heavy beast after all. But at 100 it's really economical and if you have battery fully charged and aren't in a hurry it will go a long way in dropping the consumption even more. For driving around town we simply don't have to buy petrol any more and there are weeks where I forget that there is an engine in it ;)
@@eskimoundercover thanks that is very helpful. It would be disappointing to say the least if I didn't get what I currently do and more. Unlike you though I tend travel either alone or with one passenger. Around town I currently get around 40mpg and I guess that will improve. On a run the jury's out. So many driver test videos but very few divulge their fuel consumption figures..I reckon if you charge from a public charging station you are going to be no better off financially. I hope to prove myself wrong.
I guess you got the manual or Dct? Yeah I think the auto boot is only on the phev. At least you got the new privacy glass, I didnt get it on mine. Mine came with the sunroof but it's not a big thing for me, if anything I think it makes the car hotter in the sun
Great video. I'm seriously considering buying an HS and being a civil servant you may have saved me ££££s. Can you tell me why no HS models (same with ZS) are available with tinted glass, let alone rear privacy tinting? Seems very odd given the high level of standard equipment and I think it would make the car visually more appealing. Obviously it's possible to get film tinting but not the same as manufactured tinted glass.
Thank you for the support. Yes its very strange that they dont offer tints as a factory option. Funny enough this has been asked by some mg owners. Maybe they will consider offering it on future models. Yes the affinity scheme is quite generous and you do get a lot of kit. It maybe worth asking a couple of dealers if the offer is due to end any time?
I think I can answer part of your question. The MG HS PHEV right-hand drive is manufactured in Thailand and here every car owner wants clear windows so they can select exactly the type, color, % of darkness, etc. when they order the car, and then the dealer will apply the film to match the customer's requirements normally free of charge just as a standard part of the car. When cars are sold second hand normally the buyer will change the film to match his particular requirement. If the windows are already tinted then it's difficult to choose an appropriate film for the effect the buyer wants. @@unicorntoyparty4929
@@farangjohn Thank you for that insight, it certainly answers some of the queries from members in the MG HS UK site that also asked about the tints, as a lot of people here have added after market tints after taking ownership of the car
Really appreciate all the time and effort you put into this video. 👍🏼 (I’m still not sure if I will go for the HS PHEV or the ZS EV.) All the best mate, 😉
Thank you very much for the support. I did consider the ZS as well. The main thing that swayed me at that point is HS has a higher safety rating, the HS is bigger and also the electronic gizmos were better. The screen was bigger although that may have changed as the ZS had a facelift. If electric charging in your area is ok, then ZS maybe ok. Best thing is to test drive both and see which you prefer.
Fantastic review, thank you so much. Do you know if the panoramic roof is available on the excite trim level? How are you still finding the car? Your children are adorable btw ❤
Thank you you very much❤️. I hope it was helpful. I think the panoramic roof is one of the extra features of the exclusive that excite doesnt have. That and the electric tailgate. Also the 360 camera i think is also only on phev. But i would probably ask the salesman to be sure if you go for a test drive.

Thank you for watching. I actually still very rarely use petrol unless Im on the motorway. On the motorway with hybrid, its probably in the 50's and the real EV range is around 40 miles city driving
As far as I am aware the scheme is still running but I wouldn't be suprised if the discount is less, I understand there is a waiting list for most new MG cars
If you go on motorway you will pay same as fuel car , also if you don’t drive it the battery will still discharge. Electric car is still new thing so I would think twice before buying the electric car . My main concern is battery capacity and discharge speed
Yes, on the motorway you will use petrol as electricity at high speeds is not efficient. Electric is more suited to extta urban. Tesla Model 3 has been around since 2017 and the Nissan Leaf technically since 2010 so hardly new. Your main concern should be the reliability of the charging network and not the discharge. Electric cars are still relatively expensive compared to other cars as you get more "Kit" as standard. If you intend to not drive it often, it's not worth paying extra for an electric car.
Great video. Picking mine up tomorrow. One question. How do you get the figure of about £4.00 per 100 miles. Is that accurate for electric? I thought it was about £10 for 140 miles or am I missing something?
Thanks Nick, glad you liked the video. I would say the figure should be accurate, I double checked it a few times. I used an online electric fuel calculator. It was based on 27kw/h and 15p per kw/h. Some existing tariffs such as Octopus energy is cheaper than 15p if you charge at night. But with recent energy price increases the cost will probably be higher now. Hope you enjoy the car tomorrow and feel free to pick my brains in anything springs to mind!
@@unicorntoyparty4929 thanks for that. Yes I think I'd got my head to the point I thought it was going to be mega cheap to run but obv didn't take into account the price of electric and the promised price rises. Will have to look for the cheapest electric tariff once things settles down. On a long run, ( I'm bringing it back 250 miles today mainly motorway) what mileage do you reckon you're getting? (Garage filling car up so this one's on them!!). Fab car though. Thanks again.
@@nickjones7504 it is still cheap to run no doubt that, will always be cheaper than petrol especially at todays prices. My suggestion is for anything above 40 unless you near home is to use hybrid. Let the car do its thing. Once you get back to city use ev only. The trick is to use ev so that its down to 0 by the time you get home. Also check where the free charging points are near you!
As the main parent company and manufacturing base is in China. I would imagine most of the R&D takes place there. As far as I'm aware saic manufactures other makes too so there is synergy. But they have have a UK office here so I would imagine they do have a small R&D depot here as they still need to make cars tailored somewhat to the UK and euro local market.
Thank you! There is 2 things I feel the car is missing, the HUD display you mentioned and a heated steering wheel. But even some expensive cars don't have those features.
Only a third way through your deep description and incredible step by step explanation of the variations in models fuels and prices 👍
Downside the laggy gearbox the low rear mirror , the laggy info screen and its set up , which is angled and on bright days through the great glassroof gives bad reflection on the info screen , so takes your most important focus off the road veiw.
Will say the 7 yr warranty and price is biggest carrots. Best part for a passenger is the rear seats 10 out of 10 in comfort.
Thank you for watching, feel free to ask anything that I may not have covered
Ive watched probably over 30 MG HS videos so far..this is the top of the top.. brilliant..well done..i can see..you must be a smart human..well done and thanks
Thank you for the compliment James. Glad you enjoyed it and hope you found it useful!
Great Review Thanks 🙂
Thank you very much! Hope it was useful to you
I think that this coverage of the MG HS PHEV is probably one of the most useful reviews I have seen and I have seen hundreds if not thousands of UA-cam videos of all sorts of cars. Well done!!!!!
Thank you very much Tony, glad you liked it and helps it helps you make a decison on your new car!
Absolutely brill video. Thank you for taking the time to make it. Had my HS PHEV for three months now and still learned from your video.
Thank you david and glad you liked it. Its a never ending learning process but fun at the same time to find out what else it can do
There is a good reason why every single comment is praising this video. Bravo and thank you. My next company car will likely be this now
Thank you so much for the support. Glad you enjoyed it. Its a great car and i think the company car tax benefits are pretty good too!
Great information 👍
Thank you for watching!
Your work in this video worth a lot to us, thanks for clearing some doubts.
You're welcome, hope it was useful and if you think of any further questions, feel free to ask me here!
Thanks from Australia. I will book a test drive. PHEV is definitely the best solution so far. Daily commute on electric and road trips on petrol.
Thank you for watching, yes consider a test drive and compare with similar SUV's, I think it will definitely hold its own against more expensive brands. I agree, I think PHEV is the way forward both for cost and for the environment.
Very good review, thanks a lot
Thank you very much, hope it was useful!
Wow!!! This is one of the best review videos I have seen after a long time. Fantastically explained in detail.... the video creator spent a lot of time in order to do his research. Well done!!! Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much for your kind words. Very happy you enjoyed it!
You have provided such useful information and perspective on this car. Thank you for spending all that time and energy making the video😀
You're welcome, thank you for watching and hope it helps you make a decision on your next car!
Great review !
Thank you very much, if you have any further questions that I didn't cover, let me know and I'll try and answer them!

Thank you very much for watching and your kind words!
I’m in Australia and bought one 2 days ago. Pick it up in 2 weeks. Great review and I can’t wait to get my HS PHEV!
5 years not a single problem and I drive it hard (maximum, speeding fine here about 5 UK ponds)
I have a 2018 MG GS, which was the forerunner to the HS and their first attempt at an SUV.
Today, I just ordered my MG HS Phev (ex demo car, so a great deal) As a result of your video.....😊

What would be the real fuel consumption?
I really like the way you describe all the information... This very important to know... I was unawared of this information

To the people who have a HS PHEV, how frequently do you have to charge the battery?
What sort of driving do you do? Town, countryside, motorway etc
@@unicorntoyparty4929
Hi, I hope you are well,.
Regards
Anthony
@@AnthonyGeronimi Hello Anthony, Thank you for your comments and glad you like the car. I still think it's an amazing car now.
I will try to answer as many of your questions as I can.
As far as I am aware from experience and from the forums, there is no need to keep the engine healthy. But I understand some people say to refresh the petrol in the car. So to top it up as it may go stale?
I only fill up the petrol about once every 3 months as I only use petrol if I go long distance or over 40mph
When I did research for the video, I did come across a video on youtube where a person did a test and measured the temperature of the cables when charging on granny charger. It was a few oC higher when charging. I cant remember the video but if you do a search Im sure you will find it eventually. As a precaution I installed a proper charger. But if you charge in colder weather I cant see it being a problem. But in summer if it's 30oC+ I would be extra careful
With regards to charging daily or not.
@@AnthonyGeronimi Oh and about your question regarding the 12v battery. I checked and mine is 2 bars above 12v

No you can also use your cruise control handle to start moving, is also suggested in the display when the stop interval has timed out. Pedal or
Handle
@@markduncker9117 yes mark is entirely correct. There's 2 ways to resume movement. I normally prefer pedal

@@unicorntoyparty4929 thats awesome mate, the frame i would be trying to fit is 85 x 60 x 35cm
@@DC_MA In terms of size i think visually they are very similar. Yeah I'm so glad I don't need to worry about buggies anymore. But we still need car seats until about 11 or so.

Great video I’m thinking getting a MG HS.
What MPG you averaging ?
When the car is charging the battery from the engine does the MPG drop much?
The HS is a good car, best bet is to go for a test drive and compare with similar cars like the tucson and ford.
The mpg I quoted on the video is accurate, but because most of my journeys are local 95% of my trips are on pure ev only. Especially with the price of petrol so I cant add any extra on mpg figures. I don't really use petrol unless I hit the motorway

@@unicorntoyparty4929 thanks for the information how does the AC work during summer? And is there any problem you have faced with the car?
The AC works as normal, if you have AC on low, it is possible to still drive in pure EV. If you want stronger AC then it would need to be in petrol hybrid mode. No I haven't come across any problems with mine yet!

No problem, you're welcome. No I haven't tried scheduling the charge. The electricity tariff i'm on doesnt have economy night option so there's no financial incentive for me to charge overnight. I find it more convenient to charge up to 80% when I need and if I go to a free supermarket charge point I charge the rest there
Very nice reviews..nice to see this
Thank you 🙂
Do you have a link for the car seat covers please? Awesome video btw
Thank you very much Luke, glad you enjoyed it. Here is the link! amzn.to/30AoqJO
@@unicorntoyparty4929 top man! Ordered for when I get my HS next month, this video is superb for anyone looking to get an MG. Top marks mate !
We bought one few days ago, love the car, but super annoyed the auto boot wasn't standard. Plus I really miss the sunroof we had on our previous X5
I guess you got the manual or Dct? Yeah I think the auto boot is only on the phev. At least you got the new privacy glass, I didnt get it on mine.
Mine came with the sunroof but it's not a big thing for me, if anything I think it makes the car hotter in the sun
Great detailed video! Very informative and detailed. Lovely looking vehicle :)
Thank you you very much. Definitely my most expensive toy to date haha
(I’m still not sure if I will go for the HS PHEV or the ZS EV.)
All the best mate, 😉
Thank you very much for the support. I did consider the ZS as well. The main thing that swayed me at that point is HS has a higher safety rating, the HS is bigger and also the electronic gizmos were better. The screen was bigger although that may have changed as the ZS had a facelift. If electric charging in your area is ok, then ZS maybe ok. Best thing is to test drive both and see which you prefer.
@@unicorntoyparty4929 think you are right, test drive both. 👍🏼😎
@@unicorntoyparty4929 I’m hoping to go for a test drive this week. Really exciting, it’s a beautiful car. I’ve subscribed. Would be great to see an updated video on what you like and dislike about the car now. Thanks again for such a wonderfully informative review ☺️
@@nunyabizniz1983 thank you so much for the support it means a lot to me.
Just a bit of advice. Make sure you get the exact car you are thinking of as a test drive, eg manual/automatic/phev. As the automatic drives a little different to standard automatics as its a dct.
Thanks for the suggestion, i may decide to do an update on the car in future. But in a nutshell. I have had it since September 2021 and have no regrets at all and no faults worth mentioning.
Best thing to do is test drive the hs and also 2 of its closest competitors to compare.
Feel free to ask any other questions you may think of before or after the test drive
@@unicorntoyparty4929 you’re very welcome and thank you for answering my questions that’s great advice. I think I’d want a manual anyway but may have a test drive of both and see which I prefer. Again thank you so much for the wonderful review and your time to answer my questions. Take care ♥️
Very informative, now you have had the car a while, what is your average mpg and what's the real world EV range?
Thank you for watching. I actually still very rarely use petrol unless Im on the motorway. On the motorway with hybrid, its probably in the 50's and the real EV range is around 40 miles city driving
@@unicorntoyparty4929 it appears the MG Affinity discount has reduced since you purchased. ☹️
Excellent video. I think I am sold on this car. Can I private message you some of my thoughts on it please?
Thank you very much. Sure. You can drop me an email. The contact is on our profile
Wow it is amazing i can i have heard about it but your about it is so clear and amazing.
Thank you for watching
Thanks for a complete review.
Thank you for watching, hope it helped
Just wow the car review is so nice.i like it
Glad you liked it
Great video.
Do you think is there R&D center actively working and taking actions in car development in UK still?
As the main parent company and manufacturing base is in China. I would imagine most of the R&D takes place there. As far as I'm aware saic manufactures other makes too so there is synergy.
But they have have a UK office here so I would imagine they do have a small R&D depot here as they still need to make cars tailored somewhat to the UK and euro local market.
Good video! Has it got head up display?
Thank you! There is 2 things I feel the car is missing, the HUD display you mentioned and a heated steering wheel. But even some expensive cars don't have those features.
Thank you for sharing. Made my mind up.. 👍👍
Thank you for watching and glad I could help
