No - like the petrol models, it's under developed. Poor software being the main issue, poor execution having no resistive heater so the car will not heat up without petrol power - rendering the 29 mile EV range defunct for 6-7 months of the year in the UK. To top it off, it costs c.£5k more than the top spec petrol and it'll take you years to recoup the benefit, probably about 10 years.
Some owners have had issues with the software but there are many more owners with no issues at all. Yes the car should have resistive heating but don’t and is reliant on a warm engine to heat the car up. To say the EV range is defunct for half the year is incorrect. Once the engine has warmed up in 1-2 miles, EV mode can be engaged until the engine cool down. As for the extra £6k compared to the petrol version, the PHEV does have an extra 360 camera and an extra 100bhp. Probably it is said to make up the extra price in fuel but who sells a car with extra equipment and power at almost the same price as the lower power version. It is exactly like most people buy the higher Exclusive trim rather than the Excite for not a lot extra cash.
I saw an ICE version of the HS just before the pandemic started and I couldn't believe the space and equipment on offer or the quality of the interior for the price.
Could be one of the better UA-cam car videos especially this reporter, BUT, the constant interruptions and the piano jingle throughout is so very annoying. Difficult to watch I’m afraid.
I must admit I really dislike the new digital dash, if it had a round layout option would be ok, but I love my 2022 AWD model's analog gauges, seriously. I love that it has the increments of 5KM and also the option of a big digital speed readout in centre if I want it. Best of all worlds. I think this angular side instruments view a few car makers are doing with their digital displays is really distracting to use. Just my personal opinion of course.
It's a lovely car and very well built, though I would disagree with the description of class leading space for the front seat. I'm 6'3" and test drove one yesterday. I couldn't move the drivers seat back far enough to comfortably operate the pedals, and in less than a mile was finding it very uncomfortable on my calfs; even dropping the seat base all the way didn't help. It's a shame, if the seat runners just went back another click or two I'd have been fine.
@@rivervalegroup I test drove a nearly new model. In the end I have opted for a Renault Kadjar GT Line, which I'm collecting tomorrow. The HS came very close, I was really impressed with the interior quality. :-)

new MGs have many faults but engines don't seem to be one of them. We have two petrol HS DCT models, both riddled with electrical gremlins. Have had a few new MGs since the 3 came out back in 2013, would never buy another after our latest experience, not helped by utterly unhelpful and disinterested dealers. Don't be fooled by the 'value' proposition.
I have the MG GS for 5 years with the identical 1.5L engine in the HS/HS PHEV and not had a single issue. Engine failure is not common. The engine was developed in conjunction with General Motors.

No doubt your comment was typed out on a phone, tablet or laptop that was made in China. And which country do you think the parts of cars assembled in the UK come from? Hint: it isn’t the UK.
Do you think the MG HS PHEV is underrated?

Looks pretty good inside and out, no surprise coz it's designed in the UK
Quite nice car for the leasing price in Sweden, a Volvo with same options would be double the price.

is the transmission still using dct?
No, it has a 6 speed torque converter auto transmission + 4 speed transmission for the electric motor. So that's 10 speed in total.

it's because it heats the cabin first, and then you can switch to EV, but not when you turn the car on immediately, unless you drive without heat
