I use to resell quite a bit and always had this analogy. "A fast nickel is always better than a slow dime". I even use this in day-to-day life. I would rather move things quick then hold onto things forever.
Wise words, Wacke. That will help me with my re-selling business lol. Strangely, I was just thinking about this today because someone on Mercari sent me an offer then I counter offered them, after I counter offered them they didn't message back and I thought to myself "I should have just taken her offer" I would've still made like a quick $25 profit rather than wait for the next buyer!
This is by far my favorite video from you, brutally honest but also very informative. Anyone who actually wants to grow in their business should be able to look for the information you provided instead of getting butt hurt about how you said it. Selling videogames is the dream category of reselling, with the fastest turn around times of any market. Keep it up Caleb!

The problem with eBay now, is that your items don't even get seen unless you use promoted listings, and then you dropping 5% below market means the difference between profit and break even...
That’s all fine and good to list your below market value, but the next guy is going to do the same, and the next guy after that. Now it’s a race to the bottom and it just eats up profits.
I agree dude! There is so many scummy resellers out there, like this one guy said he wanted the gamecube collection of his childhood dreams so his fans gave him really great deals on said games and then he sold them for massive profit.
Awesome rant! It's very spot on with what I see with my eBay selling niche too. Sellers have items overpriced and sit on it for months. Same thing with items on FB Marketplace, I see people pricing HIGHER than what the SOLD comps are on eBay...and they don't even pay any listing fees!
Caleb I’ve been watching your main channel for years now and have since started my own channel about my video game collection as I’ve been collecting video games since 2020 filling a childhood dream of full sets of all the systems I had or wanted to have since I was a kid. Flipping anything I can to fund the collection and this is without a doubt 1,000,000% spot on!!! I have friends that do reselling full time and they hang onto items way to long to get an extra $5 or $20 out of it. Just last week I was shocked when I asked a couple sellers on eBay and Mercari for an item, wanting to work out a deal, but they both came back with I’m not discounting as the fees are high. So they instead hold onto a game over market value to get the buyer to pay for the fees, or worst and just dumb, they jack the shipping way up to cover their seller fees. The buyer is not stupid, they will sort by lowest and scroll until they find the best deal for them. Anyways love this video and your rant is exactly what I’ve been saying for months, especially the more I get into higher dollar games for the collection. Would love to do a game room tour one day if your ever in Central Florida. Keep up the great work Retro Rick your awesome. 😂😂😂
Caleb, if everyone prices 5% below market, then that drives market value down... if market value is $40 for a game, and everyone on ebay starts listing theirs for 38, soon market value becomes 38 because those are the ones that sell, so then the new listings are priced at 36 and the market value becomes 36, and so on and so forth until the only games that are worth anything are the ones nobody is selling. I don't mind sitting on a bunch of inventory. I like collecting games and playing them. If I had enough money to keep them all and not resell any, I would. I don't have 50 copies of a high dollar game. I'm lucky to find 1 copy of a high dollar game for a good price... so if I do find a high dollar game, I'm going to price it above market to convince myself it's worth reselling rather than keeping when I paid comparatively little for it. With inflation the way that it is right now, I don't think I'm wrong to want to hold assets rather than cash. Games are a luxury item, but even if the market does completely crash for them I'm not going to sell, I'm going to ride out the downturn and hope the prices eventually go back up, and if they don't, I'm just going to keep and enjoy them for myself and my kids. My life, my income, my family doesn't depend on my buying and selling games. I enjoy your and other people's channels, but I really don't think we should have more and more people whose livelihoods depend on buying and reselling games. There is so much more valuable, beneficial and productive work that needs to be done... we cant have a society full of nothing but resellers.
Hey man, you are the reason why I watch all these reseller videos. I never got into the tv stuff. I appreciate your content that you come out. You’re an awesome dude. If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have got to meet retro rick at his game store back in early July. Just remember if you have haters you are doing something right!
Great video. I do eBay part time, meaning few things listed here and there. Mainly to fund my own hobbies and collecting. I usually always price lower then current price and sell quickly. I literally had people ask why sell so cheap. Well because want to sell it not let it sit in tote on shelf for 2 years.

helpful video went through all my listings and repriced, had a lot that were listed slightly above market. i think what may have happened was it was at market, time went on market dropped and items sat.
To each his own....coming from a guy that grossed 400k and how much of that you took home? Don't knock someone else's business model when some would say your method is flawed.
Regarding how you may feel about his business practice he is right too many sellers will sit on their terrible prices instead of selling for a lower price and make less profit than if they just would take bout their prices a bit.
I gotta agree. No hate to this guy but he makes good money already. People on ebay can put whatever prices they want on ebay. They do that best offer to be able to get market value for what games are worth. Which is what most resellers do is look for market value on what games are worth. People can sell there own games however they want
I think the shelves are awesome, I am moving in 2 weeks and going to watch you video again on the shelves so I can make my own. One question, how does the switch games fit on them?
Honest rant for low level resellers. When you hit the big time and run your own store you realize how hard it is to keep your shelves stocked with quality items. In those cases selling faster isn’t always better, even though making money is always #1, 1st impressions can cost you more money in the long run. The reason low level resellers mostly stay low level is they run out of resources and if your not finding the quality items fast enough your having a hard time flipping what you found. It’s never a+b = c in the reseller game. No two stories are alike, you have to be ready to pivot at a moments notice! I could go on all day about scenarios and situations where holding out is better than the quick flip and vise versa. Although I’ve been doing this for 20+ years now 😂
At the same time, those are the sellers that keep the price of the games up. If all the sellers were following this philosophy, games would cost would lower and lower with time
The number one strategy to re selling is to mark it up... since the market value changes all the time it's just smart business, it's also smart business to make shipping free and factor that into the listing price.
The whole reason for free market capitalism is if major companies are selling Mario kart double dash for like $70 you under cut them So you are more likely to have your products purchased over someone else’s, but what I’ve been seeing is resellers will post some thing above market value And then blame the customer for not buying it And then they have to wait like six months for the one stupid person that doesn’t think that clicks but now
The video game category has been like that for years. They price above market and have offers on but only take maybe $1 or 2 off. With hundreds of copies available, people shouldn't be asking higher than sold prices. If it's a particular rare item, actually rare like 10 copies or less, than it be a good idea to price it higher than normal
I am kind of late to this party but I saw like 15-16 bulk NES sales on ebay the other day and I took them individually priced them and I came up with on avg a 30pct mark up from what the games were actually worth in every single one of them. I was like naaaaaaaaaaaaaah I am good.

Unfortunately not everyone has access to higher dollar items, as in my case, I live in Portugal and there are almost no thrift stores, no estate sales, no garage sales and have to do with what I find online.
I don't sell a ton on eBay but I do sell stuff. I always check last sold and current listings and price right below the lowest price compared to mine. I would rather it move and make a profit than let it sit forever.
One thing left out, you mentioned market value, alot of sellers don't know where to get it, yes even stores. Price charting is great, sold items is good, anymore ways to get an honest market value?
