    so in the tcg world, 50-60% makes sense from the overhead cost for sure. For someone w no major overhead cost, 70% can be a margin I can operate on. If I had a store and overhead cost, 60% is still fine but only on quality products. lower end stuff would be 50% or less. Ive had a few bad experiences over the years but thats the growing pains of a reseller. But if it wasnt for pokemon, yugioh and magic the gathering, I wouldnt have paid for college, my vehicles, and soon to be house. If you know what youre doing, it can be very profitable and a life style.

    This is very good advice. Wasting money and ESPECIALLY A LOT OF TIME on something that is either a break even affair, or at best a low profit endeavor is wreckage to your business and motivation. Especially the time, because you can't get that back.

    I always thought sunk cost was an accounting term used to describe an purchase made for your business that you can’t accounting for since you were going to do it anyways. For example, you want to sell your house but your roof collapse. You have to fix your roof now, but you were going to have to do it anyways if you want to sell your house. Something like that, all I remember from my accounting class 😅😂

    Rough but honest and at a certain point we will all have deals like that where we think it's a great deal and after it's all said and done you realize the market shifted, or you should have done a bit more research, etc. The important part is to grow from the experience and not let it get you down.

    Yeah I used to collect and sell comics and now I only sell video games. Comics are awful trying to sell. They sit for so long and unless they are very popular key issues they simply won’t sell. My rule of thumb is that unless it’s part of a big Spider-Man run or it’s a key issue and you are getting it below like 40% market then it’s simply not worth it.

  • @Katwoman4318
    @Katwoman4318 9 місяців тому

    Lesson learned Caleb. Won’t happen again. Very interesting when a person starts pushing something else on you. Geez, comics is a whole other ballgame. Yes, the shipping & handling doesn’t help with the cost. Yea, your time is worth a lot as well. OK Like I said before Lesson Learned.

    These three rules are incredibly useful also for video game collecting.
    The sunk cost fallacy is something I have stumbled over by buying video games that I spent far too much on, because I "wanted it". Case and point a local seller was selling a copy of Ruiner for 60.00 EUR. They were still in negotiation with another buyer who wanted to do the deal outside of the normal channels. I decided I wouldn't wait, so I went on eBay and bought a copy of Ruiner for 60.00 USD + 20 shipping + 20 for taxes. So I spent about 100.00 USD for a 60 dollar game. Meanwhile the local seller's buyer deal fell through and asked if I still wanted Ruiner at 55.00 EUR. So in my case: A fool and their money are quick to part ways.

    • @WickidMisfit
      @WickidMisfit 9 місяців тому

      How did you pay $20 in taxes on a $60 dollar item? Isn’t it more like $9.

    • @laurigardner6227
      @laurigardner6227 9 місяців тому

      @@WickidMisfit Importing into the EU can cost up to 50% of the cost of the item. eBay calculates the taxes as part of the final purchase so I can skip the delay with customs upon entry into my country. It's why I ask friends coming from the U.S. to hand deliver me things from the U.S.
