This was the funniest and most relevant ending to a MCM I've seen in a long time team cannot froth harder for future vids. Every time I see a vid I think when is the magic going to change but holy jesus it just keeps shape shifting into better and more relevant vids each time.
The track section of the video felt like you guys were not normal mightycarmods. Moog seemed moody...off i guess. Marty was a bit robotic. Then the end put a massive smile on my face. THAT is classice McM shenanigans.
With everything equal, the car in front can ALWAYS pull away. Here's why: The driver in front waits until the following car is close (thus they're both going exactly the same speed). The driver in front then randomly goes full throttle anywhere that it would be unexpected. The driver behind reacts, but probably a half-second reaction time. So there's a one-half second gap. As the speed builds, the one-half second gap remains constant measured in TIME (because we're assuming that the two cars are equal). But the half-second gap measured in DISTANCE grows with their increasing speed. So it appears that the car in front is pulling away (well. it is), but the entire explanation can be found in the reaction time. Too many people don't know this.
Still amazed that they cannot seem to make an AWD car that can handle corners better then the evo did back in the 90s-early 00s. You would think with all the modern innovations that someone would be able to. That car is still a BEAST on any short track.
Even when just cruising around on the streets. He's honestly terrible at changing gears. He needs an auto unfortunately - just look at what he did to 2sexy...
That EVO is a work of art. I can't imagine what other cars it can win against as well. I'm assuming it can probably stand against cars with a very big price/age difference and win.

The EVO9 AWC system is actually far more sophisticated than the Golf. The EVO7-X have active centre diff and active torque vectoring rear diff with full ECU yaw control, 3 axis accelerometer, wheel speed sensors, steering angle and brake sensor.
A car that drives for you and a car that you have to drive.... 38 years difference in technology, development and refinement. Gotta love the Evo's, even after all these years and no longer made, new cars still want to compare themselves. Flattering really.
A highway pull is not the same comparison. Marty is referring to always keeping the car in the 4k+ rev range. After a pull you put it back into overdrive and cruise again. On a racetrack you're in 2nd/3rd a lot and usually not shifting past 4th unless you're on a really long straight away.

I thought it was faster, personally. The Golf R guy got butthurt and tried to make it sound like he won. Even on the first run, the EVO was right on his tail the entire time. The EVO definitely(surprisingly) won the standup because it was able to create such a big gap in front of the Golf R.

Marty does keep hinting about supergramps upgrades this past 12 month's there was a ej36 sat in the workshop for a while that got mentioned if I remember it right, hopefully it's some maad internal upgrades with more power!
I really enjoyed watching you two go at it!! I know there have been some haters commenting on your track performances, but watching you two analyze each other's car behavior definitely shows me that you two can drive way better than most of the commenters here! Also when Moog was talking about he did not know what Marty was doing behind him that really reminded me of Initial D and how Rye always says you start from behind to see what the other driver can do haha.

My dream car is an evo, if I had to choose I would buy an evo, not solely because it's my dream car, but more so because the re-sell value is pretty decent. My first car was a golf though, its hard choice...but still evo
EVO. For the reason it's more enjoyable to drive vs the Golf. A more visceral driving experience. Also, the EVO comes from the time when Japanese cars were made so well.
Honestly watching this makes me want the evo. Manual transmission and it still stayed on his ass just handled so much better and clearly made less crank HP. I like the golf but didn't expect any other result.

The Evo9 is and will always be my favourite car. It’s just such a beautiful motor, with a great race pedigree. Will forever be my dream car and I hope one day I will afford it. (24 and no where near lol)
AWD system in the Evo is far superior to the Golf R. Golf R uses Haldex which is an on demand system which only engages when there is slip. It doesnt provide drive all the time. The Evo is the faster and more engaging car on the track, no question. Golf R is the better daily.

You forgot a very important factor Torque. I'm wondering why you didn't mention torque figures. I think it's because that gap between the 2 cars figures would be vast.
My personal preference would be the evo. The manual may be slower for track driving but at that power level rowing your own gears is just so much more fun to me.
All my honda buddies had hondas and bagged them. I bought a honda and did not follow the trend and had nothing but trouble. So i started beating the poor little shitbox senseless and it fixed itself. Idk what it is man

Excepticus yeah mate I’ve driven an R and the dsg box makes life a whole lot easier, I like them but I still prefer banging up the gears with a foot clutch much more fun

I just commented on this above but you are right, it was interesting. I cannot see the downside of DSG. No matter how good you are, your gear changes will always be slow in a manual.

@@janemba42 but you do not have tp beat the piss out of a dsg to shift it so incredibly fast. It is designed to do so. However that said honda makes the best manual transmission ever.
janemba42 Even modern torque converter autos are quicker than a manual these days. Comparing a DSG to a manual is about 0.1 seconds vs at least 0.5 seconds and you still run the risk of missing a gear change. The DSG is easy to use, quick and reliable and works well in full auto and manual mode and you cannot damage it with a dodgy shift. I cannot see any benefits to a gated manual.
Enjoyment is the benefit. At the end of the day having a fast car is about fun. You’re not actually getting anywhere faster, there’s no actual practical element to having a faster car in the real world. And even if you do track days you’re not racing anyone, no street car is turning up to the grid at a real racing event you’re just driving for driving’s sake. You buy a manual because it’s more fun, the engagement of shifting for yourself adds to the experience. Arguably there’s a legal benefit as well. Modern cars are fast, and getting faster as speed limits largely stay the same and enforcement gets stricter. Speed is becoming both more accessible and more punishable. The sensation of speed however is free game, so it’s not without reason to prioritize cars that emphasize feeling and sensation over empirical performance. Manuals tend to help with that.
Evo 9 all day. Analogue and proper mechanical engineering. I've had an Evo 9 and they're off the charts. Plus so much better looking. The golf will be worth a fraction of the Evo 9 in years to come also. Golf's are for people who can't drive... really... my wife would love one 😂

Martin needs more seat time, and yes, keep it above 4k, it's like expecting a honda civic to have low end torque like a Subaru. If you want a torquie evo you'll have to tune it that way.
It's above 4k wherever practical, the power band isn't linear cause it's turbo and it's a tight track that doesn't let you ring out 3rd and 4th gear very often
Shows the pace of progress that a golf with a few good mods can keep up with an absolute weapon from the previous generation, also shows where Subaru and Mitsubishi have missed the boat in recent years
The Evo has been my dream car since I was a kid, so I'd take that no question. But it's not beating a Golf R with the DSG automatic gearbox on the streets. It's always been a track weapon.
I thought the VW was Haldex. That's not an AWD. It has a transverse engine with no centre diff and only a viscous rear coupling. It is a FWD car essentially as far as handling and steering feel goes.

My integra type R sits at 3500rpm in 5th at 100kph, so uhh... Yeah. Me.

I drive an N46 E90 320i and I rarely change gears below the 3,5-4k RPM

Excepticus yeah mate I’ve driven an R and the dsg box makes life a whole lot easier, I like them but I still prefer banging up the gears with a foot clutch much more fun
I reckon if the golf was a manual like the evo, then the evo would have won by a very big gap. Gd way to put manual and dsg against each other with same power & tyres tho.
I just commented on this above but you are right, it was interesting. I cannot see the downside of DSG. No matter how good you are, your gear changes will always be slow in a manual.
@@joshuarosen6242 If you're a pleb and don't know how to change gears properly sure. A gated shifter won't be as quick obviously, but you can get pretty close.
@@janemba42 but you do not have tp beat the piss out of a dsg to shift it so incredibly fast. It is designed to do so. However that said honda makes the best manual transmission ever.
janemba42 Even modern torque converter autos are quicker than a manual these days. Comparing a DSG to a manual is about 0.1 seconds vs at least 0.5 seconds and you still run the risk of missing a gear change. The DSG is easy to use, quick and reliable and works well in full auto and manual mode and you cannot damage it with a dodgy shift. I cannot see any benefits to a gated manual.
Enjoyment is the benefit. At the end of the day having a fast car is about fun. You’re not actually getting anywhere faster, there’s no actual practical element to having a faster car in the real world. And even if you do track days you’re not racing anyone, no street car is turning up to the grid at a real racing event you’re just driving for driving’s sake.
You buy a manual because it’s more fun, the engagement of shifting for yourself adds to the experience.
Arguably there’s a legal benefit as well. Modern cars are fast, and getting faster as speed limits largely stay the same and enforcement gets stricter.
Speed is becoming both more accessible and more punishable. The sensation of speed however is free game, so it’s not without reason to prioritize cars that emphasize feeling and sensation over empirical performance. Manuals tend to help with that.
Evo 9 all day. Analogue and proper mechanical engineering. I've had an Evo 9 and they're off the charts. Plus so much better looking. The golf will be worth a fraction of the Evo 9 in years to come also. Golf's are for people who can't drive... really... my wife would love one 😂

Martin needs more seat time, and yes, keep it above 4k, it's like expecting a honda civic to have low end torque like a Subaru. If you want a torquie evo you'll have to tune it that way.
It's above 4k wherever practical, the power band isn't linear cause it's turbo and it's a tight track that doesn't let you ring out 3rd and 4th gear very often

The Evo has been my dream car since I was a kid, so I'd take that no question. But it's not beating a Golf R with the DSG automatic gearbox on the streets. It's always been a track weapon.

I thought the VW was Haldex. That's not an AWD. It has a transverse engine with no centre diff and only a viscous rear coupling. It is a FWD car essentially as far as handling and steering feel goes.
