Galloping Ghost Arcade near Chicago is the last arcade in the entire world that has a functioning Sega R360 open to the public. It was added to their collection a few years ago.

Nice video. Another issue was that the R360 cabinet was maintenence heavy, broke down often (even when it was brand new), and most importantly needed a special electrical power supply available on location. They needed to run extra power lines for arcades because the R360 was a hungry beast when it came to electricity. It GUZZLED electricity in order to power those electric motors which spin the player around.
Regardless, it's a wonderful piece of engineering. Truly a sight to behold. Made during the peak of the Arcade era when arcade machines were considered the cutting edge, and arcades were considered the peak of gaming. Home Consoles back then couldn't compete.
What a shame that many arcades simply scrapped their R360 machines after a few years, or threw them in the junk yard when they broke down. It's such a unique piece of hardware that Sega will never make again.
Of the original estimated 200 units that were built, I think only a few dozen remain around the world in various states of functionality. Some working. Some broken and sitting in a warehouse.

ok this is something I didn't find how much power it guzzled I mean it logically makes sense I just never saw anything when I was looking that talked about it. I did know only a few were left now the R360X version may have a few more left either way its pretty rare to find or run into one. Thanks for coming by and sharing btw!

@@geekstorian Because of Its hefty technological demands, the R360 requires a 3-phase power supply; 240V in the USA, 380V in Japan, and 415V in the UK.

Imagine you're an underpaid arcade employee. Then this $80,000 monster shows up at work and now your job is to hose out and sanitize this thing hourly while trying to squash potential lawsuits from angry parents. Remember this is the early 90s, when all society's problems are blamed on devilish vidgeeyuhgames.... Yeah, I can see why this didn't work.

Yeah you make a good point there and another way to lookk at it is you have few attendants in arcades at this time anyway making one a ride attendant is just money wasted in most aspects. Thanks for coming by and hanging out btw!

      "Insert yo mamma jokes" 😂😂😂
Dude holy ish this thing looks absolutely insane, and I love it!
I'm shocked more than one game was released in this style back then... it looks so complex and difficult to maintain.
This is for sure the first time I'd heard of this 🙏
