Most parts of northern germany are missing: Cities like Bremen, Lübeck, Wismar and Stralsund. The island of Rügen is very wonderful, the Harz mountains with it's mediaval cities Wernigerode and Quedlinburg as well

Guess what, the reason is in the title of the video ;)
Just kidding, the problem is Germany has so many wonderful places, each of its own kind, that it's impossible to represent every one in a short video.
The video would be hours long.

To be fair, Berlin and Frankfurt are not what I would call memorable places to visit. Thank you for your suggestions, tho. I am going to do a search on them and see what they have to offer.

I was born in the far north of Germany. Left as a child. But remember some of the traditions around Christmas, I remember Christmas time being magical. Not sure if that was due to my age or if it was truly more magical than hot Australia.

    • @Volkbrecht
      @Volkbrecht 6 місяців тому +8

The magic definitely suffers a bit once you become the adult who has to make it all work ;) But it's mostly about the spirit you put into it. When you are in a proper "Christmas mood", december in Germany makes it easy to get enchanted.
What's a little bad though is that due to climate change we don't really get winter until mid to late january any more, so the Christmas season tends to be muddy and wet now rather than magically white.

Hello from Hamburg and thank you for the journey through my country and thank you all for your kind comments! I have seen quite a bit of the world and still did not find any other country I would like to live in. Like so many other countries we have trouble issues, but I believe in our democracy.
If you think about a part 2, I would suggest that you have a close look at our islands and at one of the nicest beaches in the world - the Darß beach, surrounded by a very old forest. In the US, there are islands like Cape Cod or Long Island, in Germany we have Sylt - our most famous island, or Borkum, Ruegen, Usedom and many more.

For nature lovers there are a lot more destinations.
But can definitely recommend Rhinelande-Pfalz/ Mosel and Bodensee (Lake Constance).
I'd personally prefer smaller cities with historic buildings (Bremen, Rostock, Stralsund, Ludwigsburg...)
      I'd skip Frankfurt and Köln.
And was personally a bit let down by Heidelberg, Berlin and Hamburg. But maybe too high expectations. 🤔

Rothenburg/Tauber is a beautiful little town. There's christmas the whole year. Some pastry named "Snowball" come from there. This is ball-shaped pastry made from shortcrust pastry with various coatings such as powdered sugar, chocolate and many more. They are a bit too dry for my taste, but others like them. If you enjoy half-timbered houses, I recommend Tübingen and the really small town of Gelnhausen (40km from Frankfurt). Gelnhausen also has a lot of small sights, even though it is so tiny. I also found the area around Lake Chiemsee with its small islands beautiful. And Cologne is definitely worth a trip. Unfortunately, I haven't traveled around Germany that much myself yet.

They showed a lot of places, which are overcrowded with tourists. I recommend to learn more about the really hidden gems of Germany. They only showed Hamburg in this video, but Bremen, Schwerin, Lübeck, Lüneburg and so one are also beautiful cities. The islands of Germany are also beautiful. On some of them cars are banned and the people uses horses, bikes or just walk. Try out the island Juist - they call it "Töwerland", which means "magical land" and it's true - broad and long beaches and a beautiful riff ("Billriff"). The Lüneburger Heide is also beautiful or the Harz with its smaller mountains. The Externsteine are also magnificient. There are so many beautiful places, but they only talk about that overcrowded places like Neuschwanstein oder Berlin.

You should have seen the German cities before the war, absolutely breathtaking and stunningly beautiful as shown in historic films and documentaries. What a loss of architectual marvels and gems sometimes dating back 2000 years to the days of the Roman Empire. What's left of it today is nothing compared to the real thing before the war.

In 1986 I shopped in East Berlin. On the East side of the Brandenburg gate was a tourist market. I bought souvenirs, posters, and pamphlets. I also shopped West Berlin. The old bahnhof was a huge flea market. I drove the autobahns, I went to Neuschwannstein sever times. We took field trips in school. Went to England, Spain, and France. So much fun. My father was doing genealogy research so we traveled a lot to graveyards. We played on the playgrounds while the looked for graves and we met living relatives too. We were related to the chief of police in Luxembourg and a farmer in Bitburg. 😊

I'm very sure, there was no market on the eastern side, it was hard to even get close to the gate. It was probably somewhat remote.

Heidelburg Castle has the most interesting history, 17th century, the Winter King an Queen, Frederick V and Queen Elizabeth Queen of Bohemia of the Palatinate, worth a look back to see the magnificence of the sacred geometric gardens. 💐🌳🌲🌹.

Neuschwanstein might be what Disney imagines beautiful, but if you visit Castle Eltz you will find a castle that is still owned and in parts inhabited by the family who built it some 900 years ago. It‘s meanwhile the 35th generation of the Eltz family.

I think the places I'd like to see the most would be the Frauenkirche and the Gothic cathedrals, the medieval towns, and of course the alpine countryside. It's amazing how Dresden got rebuilt and looks as it did for hundreds of years. That reminds me of how they rebuilt the old town section of Warsaw. BTW, I'd love to see a video of Poland.

As nice as it is in the south, which is mainly covered here, it is a pity that the north is missing, except for Hamburg. Apart from beautiful cities like Bremen and Lübeck there is a very unique landscape, the Wadden Sea at the west coast and cliffs at the east coast, alongside fine sandy beaches.
