      @@zaylek6568 the Dutch are very tolerant so speaking English is fine. If you want to be stubborn and speak English for the rest of your life here, you can do that. I would strongly recommend learning Dutch though. I was stubborn to begin with and it cost me lots of difficulty along the way. There are lots of resources such as babbel, italki, duolingo as well as lots of free language learning groups that you'll find almost anywhere.
      If you want to become a citizen, then you'll Need to learn Dutch to a moderate level though. The good news is if you speak English then Dutch is quite easy to learn. Good luck in the future!

      @@luckyscrote thank youu! That really helps out. I use Duolingo but I keep losing motivation to learn. I am planning on moving to the south west of the Netherlands to live with my friend and study at university, do you know if at universities they teach in strictly Dutch or if it's English too? I am worried if my Dutch isn't good enough by that point then my learning will lose out

    I went for Summer in 2015, with my family, for a month. It was potentially the greatest experience of my life. So great that we ventured there again for another month the following year. Such a beautiful country with beautiful people. So kind-hearted and helpful. Almost all of the population that we'd come across spoke English, and fluent English at that too. The country boasts some fantastic museums. We explored Amsterdam many a time and explored a lot of the city. We explored some cities other than Amsterdam, of course; in fact, the exact same ones shown in the video, minus Zuiderzee. I think it's also worth mentioning how stunning the beaches are. Unfortunately, didn't get to swim, because it was the final day of our trip there, but the beaches were absolutely clean. I feel the beaches there are a little underestimated. I'll definitely visit it the next time I get the chance. Love you, Netherlands.

      There are subsidies for structural problems but they will not cover the costs.
      Actually a lot of those buildings are rented out and not owned by the people who live there.
      If you own such a place there are many regulations up to the color and design of your front door. As we call it here: a protected city view (beschermd stadsgezicht). On the insight of the building you are allowed to change to your liking as long as it has no negative structural consequences.

      Mark R. I'll keep that in mind but I have to disagree about New York. NYC feels different from all other American cities with big avenues, everybody driving cars, no pedestrians, clean but empty boxy small downtown with big suburbs. Whereas, NYC is full of small alleys, cobblestone streets, old churches, old buildings, alive with diversity not only in the people, but the buildings and neighborhoods. The buildings are iconic, the street signs are iconic, the subway system is iconic, and each neighborhood is different. You have the artsy neighborhoods of lower Manhattan, and Brooklyn. The posh and classy neighborhoods around the central park. Then you have the real live immigrant neighborhoods with real authentic food and stuff (not tourist traps like the chinatown in london).
      You really have to be in NYC, experience all the little things to fall in love with it. If you just do the typical daily tour, then Yea that can be boring. I'm born and raised around this city and it is anything but boring.

    I'm American and my gf is Dutch, and I recently got to go to the Netherlands and visit her family for the first time and I got to say, Dutch people are some of the kindest people I have ever gotten the experience to meet. The country itself is just so beautiful, I can't wait to go back. I guess it's kind of a coincidence my gf is Dutch because I have a lot of Dutch ancestors, so I've always been fascinated by the history and culture of the Netherlands. As a dutch person, I can say that though we do have some great things as shown in the vid. Overall at-least as I see it, our country is not paradise. Rich history, great sights and sort of a mixed overall open-minded culture. People remain people, and there are off-course less great things around. Such as the country being dense in terms populated causes the price of houses to rice. Though all houses are made out of some sort of stone and sturdy, you do not get as much land or a huge garden as you would see in the united states, where there is to much land that is unused. The healthcare system is great, but there are some people trying to abuse that. People are nice but like i said people are people, some are open... some are very closed. Its a nice country to live but paradise on earth does not exist :p

      I live here, and well, it kinda sucks.
      There's so little sunlight, so often overcast, or just raining. The landscape is so horribly boring. Only a few places look nice, most of it is just endless flattness, but not perfect flatness, no, flatness interrupted by lines of trees, and buildings scattered around.
      There's always people nearby. I go to a nice nature place, and, boom, tons of people who did the same thing. Way too crowded here, and most towns are utterly ugly with no character whatsoever.

    • @Swaxdude
      @Swaxdude 8 років тому +4

      Landscape isn't boring. You think it's boring because you are used to it. Same counts for the 'ugly' towns. I actually think most towns have their own character. They're all different. But in every country you will find people anywhere, unless you move to Russia, Mongolia, Canada, Australia or Namibia. Also the flatness may be boring to you, but it's actually very unique, since pretty much all other countries aren't flat.

    This video makes me want to visit. Though my family left The Netherlands for America in 1627 We've maintain some of the cultural traditions, Probably because we've always belong to the Dutch Reformed Church. Through it we still have the catechism and Confession. We also get to meet visiting Dutch people and those who have moved here. When we moved to the South there weren't any so we went to the Presbyterian Church. There are more recently arrived Dutch communities in Michigan. They've been here since the 19th century and came bringing a more traditional denomination with them. Culturally we still resemble the home folks. We are hard workers and thrifty. We're very organized and maintain a standard of cleanliness that's hard to find among other people. Perhaps someday.

    The closest I have come to Netherlands, so far, is visiting Solvng California. It has a little bit taste of Dutch ambiance like the windmill, the houses, and little shops of candies, pastries, cheese and whatnots. But I will visit this beautiful country in the future.
