Overall, this is a very minimalist backpack, which is common for Bellroy - there isn't a ton of organization, and what is there is thoughtfully placed. One thing to note is the color scheme of "lunar" with its yellow highlights. We are big fans.
Bellroy made The Melbourne backpack out of recycled materials, which is something we really support here at Nomad's Nation. Being made of plastic, it has a texture that feels like plastic -denim. imagine if your jeans were made of little strands of plastic bottles.

I've purchased this backpack and I'm in love with it, after so many others I didn't like at all. It is minimal and doesn't have a lot of organization, but it is FAST. The magnets are the best thing ever for fast laptop access, and the side pocket is perfect to access glasses, keys and earbuds. Great review too. Wish I have watched it before to buy with your codes though.
Thanks for the comment Victor - I too think the bag is incredible, but I can see where people come from criticizing the magnet opening for their lack of security. But if you live in a safer city (like me in Hong Kong) it's a stellar pack 💪🏼

Love your reviews. I have a sling bag for when I am solo and a peak design backpack for when I need all the things. This is my in-between bag and probably gets the most use. I really love it. I honestly think this is the ultimate mom bag for moms who are into more casual bags and just want something comfy and practical that still looks nice.

Yesterday, I thought I found the perfect backpack. Went down a deep rabbit hole as I watch one review after the other of your videos and am completely undecided now because they're all extraordinary (I own a laptop sleeve, tech organizer, and crossbody from Bellroy). Their backpacks weren't even on my radar until now. All this to say your reviews are EXCEPTIONAL (so appreciate that you dig into every bit of it) and incredibly convincing, hence the indecision now.

Great review! Do you think the flap magnets are strong enough so that stuff won't fall if the bag is upside down or on its side (like when I sling it on one shoulder to the front)?

Hey Tom, great question. For the Melbourne magnets, would say it depends on what you had packed in the bag. A few small things? Should be good. Larger/heavier items? More of a gamble. I purchased this backpack and so far I love it. However, I'm having trouble fitting my 40oz hydroflask. I'm considering cutting off the stitching on the bottle holder as shown in 3:20. But I'm afraid I might damage the bag. Any opinions?
My opinion - get a normal sized water bottle. Much cheaper and you don’t risk ruining an expensive bag

Nice bag...I love the yellow accents inside and the outside linings nice combination with the lunar color of the bag itself...I'm a fan of magnets in bags but not the idea of the main opening compartment because its nooooooooot safe 😁 however I like the side zipper 😊...I miss watching your videos 😊

Will the magnets keep popping open?
If the bag is fully packed out - sometimes yes
I got it as I gift and the magnets aren't that strong. Bellroy Customer Service said that my item is not faulty and I should be packing less.. The side pocket is impossible to use without the magnets opening. It is advertised as an 18L bag with "SURPRISING STORAGE" but you will be able to carry max a laptop, a water bottle and a pouch. Maybe an umbrella. If you put a jacket in it that will open the magnet as soon as you move the bag to put it on or dash to take the bus.
Of course, your experience might differ based on what you carry but be aware that you might experience some of the issues I had or all of them.

Pretty well but I can’t say that with 100% confidence as I am not super familiar with the material. But I think it’d handle it just fine

Look magnets - if theft is a problem - it's the melbourne bag and as a Aussie I will say theft is possibly a problem lol. I thought the strap management was Zinc Alloy. I am guessing this was the original and not the compact?

@@Nomads.Nation I’m on the fence but to that note I say I want in, it kind of reminds of the crumpler seedy bar but that front iPad pocket that was made of mesh that was definitely a theft issue
Would probably buy it if they didn't use magnets... If you live or work in even the "safest" city you'd still want something that has a better closing mechanism... It is begging thieves to come right in! The design looks nice though.

I wouldn't say it would be horrible in the rain, but it's def not the most water-resistant bag I have ever tested
