  • Most of you will know that good quality boots are one of the most important pieces of kit you can own, but how about your socks? Socks, just as much as boots, will hugely impact how enjoyable your time outside is.

    I absolutely love my Darn Tough socks and have many pairs now. My original pairs were bought as a gift when I lived in Hereford. I still order all my socks and walking shoes from Trekitt even though I live Up North these days. Brilliant products and great helpful videos. Thank you.

    Darn Tough socks last me 6 months before they loose pacthes of wool and have to be discarded. Bridgedale last me over 5 years. Both are very comfortable and function well.

    Great video and very informative. Are liner socks recommended for under hike socks? Or for use when say fly fishing with waders?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  2 роки тому +1

      Generally there's no need for liner socks, but they are useful for adding warmth underneath larger hiking/trekking socks. Hary

    Darn tough and smartwool are great, but I only buy them on discount because the irregulars which are just as good but without the guarantee can be found here stateside for about half off in a lot of places. When I pay full price I go Farm to Feet 🐑 🦶🏼because they’re made here on the east coast and totally domestically sourced. I haven’t worn cotton socks in a decade. Another major benefit is merino’s warmth when wet. I run in Xero sandals 4 seasons, in the freezing cold (today for example) when sometimes puddles are unavoidable due to terrain a merino sock will rewarm and maintain the feet. The anti stink factor is a bonus

    Thanks again for this great video. Just wondering what percentage of merino wool do you recommend in a good pair of socks?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Рік тому +1

      It varies quite a bit; there isn't a definitive answer. It comes down to the construction techniques, patterning and fabric content all as one. I've been wearing Darn Tough socks for years and would recommend them highly. Harry

    My favourite socks are, Smartwool, Icebreaker, Wigwam, Warrior Alpaca, and of course Darn Tough. You can walk around the world if you have soft, warm, comfortable socks!

      How very true, a good pair of socks is worth their weight in gold! Paul.

    I would not buy a new pair of socks because I am buying a new pair of boots, but I will tell you this, when I come in your store to get a pair of boots I will bring with me the socks I will be wearing with those new boots for sure. Spending that kind of money to not be fitted properly would be idiotic and ridiculous, so I will wear my socks with the new boots I am getting. Plus you don't sell my favourite socks they are only available in New Zealand, Possum socks mixed with merino wool, simply fantastically warm and comfortable. Nice video again Paul you must be tired of being told this every time you do one...lol

    My problem is that my feet swell on a multi day hike and can gain a shoe size over 3 or 4 days.
    This means that I need thinner socks by the end of a trip than at the start.

    Hi Paulherefromtrekkit. I really tried to get into Smartwool socks a while back on the recommendation of a friend. Sadly I think I'm allergic to them. My feet have horrid reaction to them.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  4 роки тому +1

      You could try an alternative to wool which is Coolmax; Darn Tough produce a few which are just as comfortable but are more suited to warm conditions. I'll pop a link to them below. Kind regards, Harry.

    I believe getting the right socks are a bit of trial and error. Wool socks are great but some people are allergic to them. One answer might be, making sure you always have an extra pair to change into.

    Hi, I still get blisters and I wear bridgedale liner socks and bridgedale thicker socks together, any help would be great

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому +1

      If the socks aren't the culprit, then it'll either be your boots or the lacing. We've got a good video on lacing here: ua-cam.com/video/zBfwJcIkYxE/v-deo.html
      If the lacing video doesn't do the job, it'd be worth paying us a visit (if you're near) to receive a professional boot fit. Kind regards, Harry.

    What's your opinion on alpaca wool socks for walking / hiking?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Steve, I have no opinion as I've never used them. You'd have to either pay me a lot of money, or drag me kicking and screaming to relinquish my Darn Tough socks! Thanks for watching. Paul.

    I had both my feet surgically amputated so I wouldn’t have to ever worry about socks and shoes. Now I have robotic feet. Some WD-40 once a month and I’m good to go.

    Where do you guys stand on seal skinz as a brand?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  4 роки тому +3

      Hi Peter. Sealskinz make excellent products and it's only because their patent recently expired that allowed other manufacturers to "copy" their technology. However, personally I wouldn't wear them as a trekking sock, purely because they get too hot due to the waterproof membrane. Paul.

      Even at a much higher initial cost the cost per wear of a quality, long wearing sock with a lifetime guarantee will render them “cheaper” over time. So you not only enjoyed a better performing item that doesn’t clog your pores with toxic foolishness and saved money while making less waste.

    Sport socks are not technical socks?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Dan. It all depends on the fabrics used, most sports socks have a high cotton content, which is to be avoided. Paul.
