Crew socks have been trendy especially with shorts and sneakers since I was in highschool in 2011 a decade ago. I don't think it's going anywhere, if you know how to pair them well, they can create a really nice silhouette. I've seen alot of trends rise and fall and I dont think this one is going away anytime soon. Anyways good video, really helpful:)
Plus men exclusively wore knee-high or close to it white socks pulled up for literal decades up until the early 2000s, when hideous ankle and no-show socks came out of nowhere. Right around 2011, as you mentioned, swag fashion came about and killed those little abominations and made guys socks big again.
During my school time in the early 2000s crew socks were out of fashion and especially if you pulled them up completelly people would make fun about your tacky and hideous style. It's fun how trends can change completelly.
I am all about crew socks. Love that the old school striped socks are back and I have seen guys sporting crew socks with sneakers and shorts for a few years now. Nike and Adidas are especially showing longevity. I personally am into the Bombas classic white crews and the Stance skater socks. Ankle socks just don't work for me. I have tried the very best brands and they just like to slide down. I respect your video though and appreciate shedding some light on socks.
It does make you wonder what sort of feminine soy boy isn’t aware that high white socks are standard men’s fashion, and have been for literal decades. The colored socks and ankle/no-show sock fad was created by women and homosexuals in the fashion industry, no real man would ever own a single pair.
Funny because the "Dont do this" thumbnail look is insanely popular in the punk/hardcore scene with vans and the guys who do that get so much tail in the scene.
You Can literally look up people wearing the same style from 1989 till today. Everybody from Snoop Dogg, mark Wahlberg, to blink 182 has been pictured wearing the crew sock I really don't see it going out of style anytime soon as silly as it may seem to some.
Very common misconception about wool socks is that they are always a winter sock. Wool socks are actually fantastic for summer time too because wool has the unique properties of being very breathable even in hot conditions, and also it wicks moisture as well. Another property of wool no one talks about which is very important is that unlike cotton, wool continues to insulate and lock in heat even when it's wet. This can be important in the winter. If you've ever shoveled your driveway wearing cotton socks in the winter, once your feet get sweaty, you know how cold they feel. They feel like ice buckets. That's because cotton stops insulating once it's wet, making cotton a HORRIBLE material for cold weather. Wool will continue to keep you warm even if it gets wet. If you live somewhere cold, like I do, here in Wisconsin, it really does make sense to have a handful of pairs of genuine wool socks. And wool does not have to be scratchy. That's a misconception. Many socks today are manufactured using MERINO wool which is much smoother and more comfortable than standard wool socks. The important thing is though, make sure you buy wool socks that are actually wool. Many socks that are labeled or marketed as wool socks actually contain 20% wool or some very small amount of wool and the rest is primarily cotton. This is NOT going to work like a wool sock because it's not, it's basically a cotton sock. Make sure you get socks that are at least 80% wool if you're looking for real, quality wool socks to keep you warm in the winter. Also, wool socks will cost more, but they tend to last much longer than regular cotton socks. They are wrinkle resistant and moisture wicking and not as absorptive as cotton either. All of these qualities cause the wool to hold up much better over time than cotton socks which fall apart relatively quickly. I have a few pairs of wool socks that I've been wearing for nearly 10 years and they're in pretty much just as good shape as when I first bought them. I hope this information helps somebody
Good information here. Like most accessorizing, many go too far in either direction. I love ankle socks with shorts, tennis shoes, or playing golf. I get blisters with no shows because the heel of the sock is below the heel of the shoe.
Knee socks or higher are super cool with skirts or dresses and I personally really like them. My absolute favorite sock is the kind that has really cool designs and I wear those all the time.
Awesome video! Not enough style related channels and videos discuss materials, and that is very important. Something about polyester is that it's very water repellant, but very oil-friendly, which is why it is used for rain jackets a lot, but retains (bad) odors too easily, which is not ideal for sport garments. It can be breathable depending on the weave of the fabric, but in general, not very breathable indeed. I wonder if something similar to this video could be done for shirts and jackets, comparing their materials and blends.
