Paraboot is one of the greatest shoe brands in history and they haven't changed a dang thing! Today we are giving a little looksie to the Paraboot Michaels. A trendy (for 80 years) shoe that's built for architects, nurses, and even vets but now is worn by the likes of Taylor Swift (in a new Target ad). What on Earth did Paraboot do to satisfy this interesting group of professionals? What the heck is a Norwegian welt? What is a Goodyear welt? Today we will attempt to dive into all of these!
*Shop around! You can find these for far less than $635.

The Iron Snail is a men’s fashion vlog starring a young man named Michael and featuring a snail no bigger than a quarter. The two are set on taking over the world of fashion by creating a clothing line to end all clothing lines. Until then, we’re here to tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about the best clothing out there, from the highest quality raw denim jeans to the warmest jackets to the sturdiest boots…the Iron Snail has got you covered. (written by Taylor, though Michael is sometimes known to talk about himself in the third person… xoxo) - Навчання та стиль

u kinda sound like the guy from scrubs
Bro this guy deserves more views. His editing is high effort and his content is entertaining and educational. The fashion content on YT is really dry and this guy is making a new wave for the genre.
He's an annoying squirrely soyboy who uses sarcasm as "humor" in the typical brooklyn/portland manner since it's "humor" that can't offend any of his blue haired friends
Michael. When I found your channel, I sold my entire wardrobe and made it my life’s goal to buy 𝑜 𝓃 𝓁 𝓎 clothes you’ve reviewed. It has been a month. I have exactly 32 denim jackets, a pair of Swedish military boots, a Nomos and no underwear. I don’t regret anything yet, but the chafing is testing my resiliency … naked and not famous?
Jesus
😂
😂😂
Make sure you NEVER wear jeans under $500, only buy shirts from European manufacturers that went out of business 50 years ago, and top it off with a WW2 surplus Arctic Explorer's jacket (for summertime casual wear only)
Buy the rolex explorer
I’m sorry to be wearing my pedant’s hat today, but the man shown stitching a welt in your film is actually “hand welting”. Hand welting existed before the Goodyear process. The difference is that the Goodyear process relies on stitching the welt to a gemming - a strip of material attached to the sole. Hand welting involves stitching the welt directly onto the insole, which is usually achieved by creating a channel in the insole to hold the internal stitching. If someone could come up with a machine that could reproduce that process then Goodyear welting would become unnecessary.
There is a further process called “Veldtschoen” welting, which I think you allude to in your film. This is essentially a blend of stitchdown and welting. The upper is flared out in the same way as for stitchdown, but is then attached to a welt before the midsole or outsole is stitched on.
DuDe!!!! Im from Pará in Brazil, the same place that you shown the picture. And Yes we do have a long history of rubber extraction in here. Long time fan.
Same with Manaus. I love the jungle.
I'm from Belém, and I find it amazing how I can find people from Pará *anywhere* 😂
Veterinarian here. I never learned about these in vet school. Maybe if I was French.
Thought about this more for 2 seconds. They makes sense in more of a large animal setting, think horse or farm surgery. In those settings you will see disinfection stations that you step into with your shoes when going from stalls to operating rooms, to office area, etc as a way to prevent the spread of infection and contaminants. The rubber soled watertight nature of these shoes is perfect for that. I bet these were the large animal veterinary surgeon's shoe.
You would have had to have been in vet school in the 40's!

Wore these in the mid 80‘s.. with a Barbour jacket.. damn cool for an 16 yrs old 😅
That's still a great combo today 👌
Timeless
Yeah ot pretty much me righg now, 16 year old wearing a sage Beaufort and Blundstones paired with a Stetson 8-panel flatcap.
That’s a hard fit dude
This is basically a kind of Konstruktion which I know from Germany. It is called "Zwiegenäht" (doublesown) and is mostly found in "Haferl" shoes.
Stimmt, finde gerade für so einen Schuh den Meindl "trigenähten" fast scchon besser.
I own one pair of black boots, they are dressy but not too formal. Superb leather and the sole is very comfortable and durable. Really nice last, they look great and are a confortable well designed boot. I used them for bartending for a few years and they stood up well to getting wet and splashed with various liquids.
Michael, as a fellow Michael, I endorse the amount of Michael-ness that you ooze. You are incredibly talented on camera! If you ever consider branching out from fashion-based explainer videos, I’d totally watch that! Good luck with your yessing and anding!
Excellent video. Really love the history oriented brand overviews and would appreciate it if you could continue to make that type of content. You're amazing at it.
This video should tons more views and likes. Thanks for putting time and effort and humor into this.
Classic (and instructive) as ever! And for some reason, today in particular, TOTAL Wes Anderson vibes with this particular installment... 0:42 (Inserting well done golf clap here~!)
Excellent video, thanks. I have these shoes and I agree once you past the wired esthetic they are amazing
I knew nothing of Norwegian boot making techniques , before this video !!! Thanks
Parabooties are shockingly comfortable for a big chunky leather shoe. No break in at all, no discomfort. I think I'll wear mine today
I love your 1950s outfit today. Red button shirt, white undershirt, dark wash denim jeans, with the cuffs, and with these cool retro shoes. Very nice!
My very very favourite shoe silhouette - wear mine almost every day - they just make me happy
Have had a pair for like two years, first expensive shoe I bought (use to wear only converse) and they’re still looking brand new. Overall, great shoe.
Awesome video! What’s the light green short sleeve shirt you are wearing for the second half?
Great boots, I got my first pair back in 1987. Classic shoes
This is wild, I know you from Theo & Harris and just found your channel from searching for jeans... WILD. Love the content
I have a pair of the engineered garments collab michaels, and they're awesome. Very comfortable and sturdy. Thinking about picking up another pair of black michaels, i love wearing these.
Avoriaz on my feet for a couple of season now, unbreakable 😂
Hi Mike, I'm always waiting for your review!!!Great content and great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video as always Michael 🤝🏽💥
Cannot get over how good that red shirt looks on you Michael. Fits flawlessly 🔥
That first fit went hard 🔥
I wore my first pair of Paraboot Michaels when I was 15 in France in the 1990s. Indestructible shoes. Completely unknown in the US but such a great brand. I left my pair of Michaels to a donation center in Seattle. Somewhere in the PNW some hobo is wearing a pair of Michael. That’s my hope at least :)
Hi! My name is Michael and when I review shoes I stand in rivers, even though no one will do this with their shoes!
Love the vids man! 😂
what socks to use with Giesswein? cotton balls up and it can damage the lining on the shoes. What would you recommend the socks should be made of / what proportions?
As a french I'm happy to see this video
And the price is not as high in France
Well still is around 390€ so for many this is expensive
Just got a pair of the Parraboot Our Legacy Boat shoes, great quality and so comfy
Hate hate hate our legacy, but they did freak the collab.
@@3ZN357 damn why? Easily my top 5 fav brands currently
@@3ZN357 why you hate OL? One of my favs at the moment fs 😢
Great video, Michael.
Great video as always. Who makes this red shirt that you are wearing?
Oh man I'm so happy you covered Parraboots. I feel US traditional footwear and UK one to the extant is all the rage and one needs to dig to find European equivalent with history to boot as JM Weston, Fracap and similar. It is only natural you would cover Michael
I have a black pair and love it
What camera/lenses do you use?
The Italians... yep... BUT!!!! The Japanese even more.
I find it very nice that you did that review on a shoe I´ve learned to love from when my dad used to wear them. Thanks!
As a child, I remember testing my brand new shoes with water. My mom was not pleased and I received a punishment.
Very popular with the Japanese City Boy style
Could you do a review of Denham the jeanmaker?
Big fan of the channel Michael! We miss you at T&H but would love to see Christian featured in a crossover episode on The Iron Snail at some point 🤞🤞
Mike worked so hard to tell me about the shoes but I just like his shirt.
Looks like a wool CPO shirt.
Please review the Stone Island brand, very interesting history
I have a question you can possibly answer: My feet aren't the same size. By about one and a half sizes, and they are wide. Without buying two pairs of shoes and throwing away two shoes, which shoe companies will let me order split sizes? I know that standard sizing doesn't exist, if it ever did. Does it make sense to send foot tracings when ordering shoes these days?
Those wool sneakers were as attractive as the thought of drinking Geese wine. 😬
This is the shoe that made me realise I have two different sized feet, and the despair that I had to return my pair I got on 50% sale is still felt to this day.
What’s the button up shirt you’re wearing in the video?
I think those boots are actually really nice to look at lol,
you can still buy Galibier brand shoes but they are now reserved for professional use
You forgot the storm welt (or split reverse welt) which is the Norwegian welt with one less row of stitching. Creating a block on that channel so water doesn't seep in.
I believe a storm welt and split reverse are different right? Storm welt is a different name for Norwegian and split is an actual split piece of leather? Either way I should have talked about split! Perfect middle ground for the description
@@TheIronSnail split reverse & Norwegian are 2 different types of storm welts. There is a 3rd type which is simply called a storm welt. All 3 are designed for water resistance.
Got 3 pairs will buy more 1 noir, Swede tan, dark brown. There was a time when they were dirt cheap
I can't find a lot of information on prison blues they're a brand that's popular with loggers if you could do some research on them that would be amazing
5:04 *gasp!* Abraham Lincoln!
この番組たちは良作品揃い!
Ray-MEE Ree-ShAhr. You also have to roll the “R”s in the French fashion.
Also Michael is not a French name but it would be Michel and pronounced like Michelle in English - Mee Shell
Greatest shoes ever made.
What watch is he using?
Not the sexiest shoe, but you’ve convinced me I need to order a pair!
u make me so broke, I wasnt even into all this and now I want everything
Just waiting for the day Mickey man throws on some Salomon’s
When you watch for the ads
Strategically talking about Arnold Schwarzenegger instead of the other well known Austrian 😂😂😂
Paraboots look great, are quite spensivo, and pretty much the most uncomfortable pair of shoes I've ever owned. I purchased a pair at Arche in Manhattan in 1992, they were worn a few times, and were sold in 2013 on eBay close to $200.00. it would be nice if they spoke with someone at Blundstone so they could make a comfortable sole. Sorry. I know I'm not the only one with this history.
😀
So no more watch’s?
I would wear them all the time! My wife would kill me.
🥾
9.23 in video you appear to be standing next to toxic waste possibly...
What happened to Christian????
I am thankful that I am not a vet. I would hate having to wear those ugly shoes.
Fun to learn aboot them though; excellent research!
I’m Norwegian and disappointed. Great video, though!

Yeah, great, the heel wears down at 100mph, leaving you devastated.
Stick with Kleman padror.
poor
COME TO BRAZIL!!!!! I don’t personally live there but just something I think you should do :+)
First.
No No No, 'Paraboot' means you get both one for your left foot and also and in addition one for your right foot. Assuming you have two feet id est a pair. You are welcome.
congrats, youve been nominated for the “worst joke of the year” awards!
@@jessepinkman5198 It's an honour! 😆
Why are you always crouching down
Slav squatting
Why????????????? You can just buy two pairs of Iron Ranger’s…. Expensive 💩 💩 CRAP…….
I think that the design is much better on the paraboots, and i find them more comfortable than those boots. But this post in general feels very 2014 reddit MFA.
ugly ass shoes, you can tell they'll tear down your heel for a while
I'd subscribe to your channel, but you become a bit annoying after the first two minutes.
They look legendarily awful.
