It's always nice to see combined bands. Apart from practice, it takes a lot of trials and errors in having the right instruments with the right tuning to be able to play as one sound plus a dedicated Bandmaster who treats his members equally.

No. Henry Goffin father of Norman, Harry, and Dean composed it. He would visit my dad, a dedicated Salvationist and music teacher, every time he travelled to Whangarei. Then on out training in Lower Hutt I would visit him at his home in that city. The Australian Brass Band Association has Red Shield on its list of approved marches to be played on stage at contests but has wrongly attributed it to Henry's son Dean. While chatting with Henry on one occasion he gave a wonderful insight into Dean's skill as a composer. As a student at high school Dean would borrow music by the greats from the library and study those scores for hours at a time. And on another occasion Dean, my Divisional Commander at the time, said that when the inspiration for a new composition took hold he put pen to paper while his dear wife Marge supplied the coffee and corned beef sandwiches.
Just a note, the young lady2nd down on trombone is my eldest daughter.
You must be very proud of her and rightly so.
Great musicians. This march has a pretty trio. The type that you wish would never end.
Are used to love playing this piece, many decades ago at western music institute with the Salvation Army

Quite a long time ago but good to revisit. The Red Shield certainly is one of the Salvation Army's best marches

Two great bands but one master Henry Goffin great Salvationist the piece is played by many guards band my favourite Coldstream Guards Band
