My son and I were in the audience for this event in NYC. All I can say is WOW! In the United States, the New York Staff Band is the brass band others aspire to be like. Growing up in The Salvation Army and getting hooked on playing an instrument quite young, my dream was to one day be a member of the NYSB. Unfortunately, that wasn't meant to be. I've always been a fan of Black Dyke and have been fortunate to see them live several times now. What a wonderful group of musicians!
Hairs on the back of the neck stuff!! Brought me to tears in my car on my way to work. I even cheered at the end. The greatest concert piece I've ever heard! Unbelievable!!!
So much to love about this but everything - stunning! The cornet solo into the crescendo at around 6.00, the beautiful high note at the end from the euphonium, the power from the troms and tubas, the percussion just perfect. Love it!
You can always tell it's Black Dyke. They have a brightness to their sound that I don't think I ever hear in a salvation army band. Also, so much control. For most bands the difference between pianissimo and fortissimo is quite small, but these guys can get quiet, and that takes skill, much more than blasting it out. I wonder if this piece has ever been used at a music school final festival? I can certainly imagine Dean Jones getting a brass group to do this justice!
As someone has already said the euphonium is a little too fast to really sell the message of its words; now, as someone who grew up in the SA; be honest with yourself; the ISB can’t hold a candle to this overall performance.
The cornet playing by Richard Marshall from @05:43 is sublime. And that crescendo gets me everytime. So well balanced during almost 30 seconds. Great performance!
Huddersfield Uni band played this at Hudds town hall a few years back, before the Pandemic, and I can say hand on heart, it was the most amazing track I have ever seen and heard played live by a brass band, I for one, thought they were an amazing band... It rocked the town hall.... Awesome
This is a beautiful piece of music, l wonder if many know that the cornet solo is based on a Salvation Army song written by Howard Davies? " Lord you know that we love you"
John Cahill, what’s beyond “Like”?👍 this band kills everything they play. High notes on every instrument in tune. Very difficult runs seemingly played in perfect unison. For me, a tuba/trombone player to catch myself listening to the soprano cornet, 1st tenor horn and flugelhorn parts is exciting. The icing on the cake as it were, at least from my standpoint. Extremely well done!
All of you - everybody play as Jesus Kristus want to have. IT IT SO MUCH BLESSING IN EVERY TONE I FEEL Jesus Kristus DNA IN EVERY TON. I AM SO BLESSED TO HAVE A SO PROFESSIONELL BRASS BAND.THANK YOU Jesus ME ssias. Nicolas you create all US and Jerusalem with your perfect arms .soli deo gloria

Very very very good. But: Is there someone here to explaine me, why I love the SWISS ARMY BRASS BAND's version more so much? It is - for me -extremely heartwarming, both the versions are, but the swissband touches me so much more. Deeply. Why? This peace of music is so ... great. I am playing 2nd trombone in a very fine BrassBand and always I get goosebumps while playing this.
no! these band here got more passion i think. the Pp´s and ff´s with loud and quiet are sooo outstanding. surely the swiss band is also good but i prefer this version.
Cornets have a conic shape (instead of linear) so they have a darker sound that‘s more appealing than the timbre of a trumpet, especially in a brass band setting! 😊

Quite possibly the finest concert piece I’ve ever heard. Fabulous.
Epic!

You can actually hear the conductor yell "waaaah" as the cresc reaches its climax. 6:25.
@@TheDrummie1 Ive listen to this song every day for months. I just heard it now. Good ears.
