Thank you for the recipe, I made this yesterday using olive oil and Shea butter, I used BTMS 25 as my emulsifier, it came out creamy yet thin enough to use in a spray bottle, perfect 👌 thanks for posting this recipe

Oh I just LOVE this!! With my VERY low porosity hair doesn’t do so well with oils but my hair loves glycerin so I may use more glycerin than oil. Or I may just heat it up before using.
TIP: For other low-porosity people, Because warm products work better on my low porosity hair, I recently bought a Phillips Avent baby bottle warmer on Amazon for my hair products and I use small travel sized glass pump or spray bottles for warming (got them on Amazon but take the caps off while warming) Just before I get in the shower, I turn it on and it’s heated in 3mins. Just make sure it’s just gently warming not boiling (the high setting boils the water in the warmer). I use it to melt my butters as well. I can even get a 2c mason jar into that warmer for mixing things. Game changer!

Greetings, I love the end result look of this recipe and most of the ingredients used however, I was wondering if this recipe would be just as effective minus the emulsifier and preservative? I'm aware of the potential bacterial growth which is why I usually make my diy's for a 1wk use only.

    • @nikiealhunter2408

The emulsifyer helps to mix the oil and water phases together seamlessly without the chance of separation or having to shake the mixture each time. You could try and mix them without it but once left alone it'll separate.

My daughters like braids, would you recommend your conditioning spray for that type of style? Also, you didn't specify which emulsifying wax you used, would BTMS 25% Behentrimonium Methosulfate Cetearyl Alcohol Emulsifying Conditioner work for this recipe? I'm trying to use EXACTLY what you used to minimize problems on my end. This is sold on Amazon, would definitely get to me quicker than one coming from overseas, especially with everything backed up. I have a question, I made a spray using a water like yours, emulsifying wax, natural preservative, veggie glycerin and Shea butter. My mixture smells good and everything seemed to have blended well except for the Shea butter it separated after I transferred it to the spray bottle. It has remained separated, what can I do to fix that? In your video there didn’t appear to be any Shea butter separation. Your advice would be greatly appreciated loved the video.

Hello, Ellise, thank you for your inspirational ideas!! I love the simplicity of your recipes, it's a huge advantage not only for lotionmakers but for our skin as well. However, my emultion in this recipe failed twice with different emulsifiers the second time, yesterday I did it with Montanov68, this emulsifier works with little amount of oils . I put less shea butter , the whole amount of fats was 7 and I put very little amout of coconut milk for stabilizing the emultion, in the morning it seperated. The idea is great, but I don't know how to make it workable.

I found the same and find that I struggle to balance the emulsion

I've done the formulation and it separated also.

That's great - especially doubling up as a body spray, love it! I can't believe I haven't made a deep conditioner tutorial yet - I'll definitely get working on it! 😊💚
