I am convinced that these companies constantly discontinue good products so that we have to buy more products to find another good one. Loreal owns so much of the products that they don't have to worry about losing a customer.
Actually from business perspective it does not make sense to sell hair products that do not damage your hair, because you do not need to buy so much of it. Nivea used to have a shampoo that was perfect for my hair. It cured my scalp problems, my hair stopped being oily at the scalp dry at the ends, I did not need a hair conditioner, and they discontinued the product.
@@hanabi18-78 Infusium23 original formula from the 2000's or so was so freaking good for my hair. I have no idea what was in it, but my hair loved it. Nothing I've ever tried since has come close.
I just started using silicones again after you mentioned in a previous video they're protectants, and suddenly the amount of hair I shed in the shower has dramatically reduced. Thank you for explaining all this stuff!
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience i don´t think silicones can do something for the scalp.Rather agains it -> build up and therefore hair shedding, so just an coincidence that this time i was less. But in the long run... Also you advertise amodemethicon but you don´t tell people that all these products will also contain oter harming ingredients like (isopropyl) alcohol. So...worthless 😢
@@madlenj.4644 so I read somewhere that alcohol in hair products have the potential to be damaging if used in excess and/or not used in conjunction with emollients (like silicones & oils). Alcohol can dry your hair out, so emollients act as a protective barrier
@@tnguyen710 the alcohol is damaging and the silicones as well. Even if what you´ve heard would be right, how could all the different products not be damaging, when always the concentration of alcohol and silicones are different? If your theory would be right, there would be a need to meet a certain ratio , which is never the case.
Is anyone here old enough to remember the Infusium 23 line of hair care? Their leave in hair conditioner worked like an absolute miracle - every time. Come to learn Amodimethicone is second on the ingredient list along with some other impressive ingredients too.
I used it up to a few years ago, I think, when Walmart stopped carrying it! It was my favorite leave-in! It made my frizzy ( I found out, curly hair) manageable💗💗💗
Literally I was just thinking the same and wrote it in my own comment! I seem to recall Michelle said she went to James Ruse High - so she’s also repping Western Sydney with pride! ❤😊 Michelle needs an OAM for all the melanoma she’s preventing, honestly!
Curly girl here, just a tip for applying leave in conditioners, it helps if you add water to them. If I didnt add water, I'd need like a whole handful, but by adding water to my palms as I apply, I only use about a 20 cent piece worth of product. Its a bit annoying to have to wet your hair but once you figure out the right amount for your hair, you can get away with using just enough to help spread the product but not so much that you saturate your hair. In the past, I have added it to a spray bottle of water, but I found I had less control that way and my hair ended up a lot wetter.
You can get products that spritz if you're not in love with the brand you use it's worth trying a different one. I like the spritz ones because if my hair is tangled it's a lot easier to use spray to help detangle it than having to wet down my hair.
@@hazar2354 I use the Akin brand leave in conditioner, but they have recently changed the product and formulation. The new one is okay but comes in a much smaller tube and is still the same price as the original 🙄 I also use the Tresemme curl cream which is okay, just to stretch the Akin one further, and Garnier Fructis mousse after, which is cheap and awesome 👌
For a drugstore wash-off conditioner option available in many countries: L'Oreal (Elvital / Elvive / Elseve, depending on the language) Rapid Reviver. Amodimethicone is 3rd ingredients in the ingredients list. And for a drugstore leave-on spray: Pantene 3 second gloss (sometimes called 7 in 1 miracle oil spray in some countries) also has it in 3rd. It's one of the rare things that conditions without weighing down my very thin hair, just leave them super shiny and supple.
Interesting. Most elseve either weighed down my hair completely, or staightened it to an unpleasant degree, but I just don't remember which lines they were. Rapid reciver is a line I should look into just in case, since I also have super thin hair that gets weighed down by anything. But for me it's also important that the shampoo doesn't have any silicones, but I'm fine aith them in a conditioner - as long as I don't put it onto my skin.
@@atriyakoller136 i used to feel the same after bad experiences of weightdown hair with conditioners but amodimethicone has been much better. Rapid Reviver (also called rapid restore in some countries) isn't a line it's a product that Elvive actually has a version of in at least 3 of their existing line that i know of: color-vive (the red one), dream length (orange one) extraordinary oil (brown one). All 3 RR conditioners in those, are declinaison of the same base formula with different fragrances and a few minor ingredients changes near the end of the INCI. For having teste those 3, they were basically the same.
I've been waiting forever for you to talk about haircare ever since you last mentioned it, because you're probably the only evidence-based beauty content creator that has the same hair profile and issues I do. 🥺 Thank you for this. Please run me down your products that you like for your scalp issues too please. You made a short one before but I'd love a deep dive.
YES!!!!! I WOULD LOVE A VIDEO ABOUT INGREDIENT LISTS!!!!!!! Please talk about fragrance as well. I have sensitive skin, and I’m at the point where I wonder if I shouldn’t get so hung up about whether a product has essential oils/parfum/fragrance because they’re everywhere 🫠🫠🫠
Same here, especially as someone with a chemistry background! I really wish that manufacturers would put the concentrations on their list of ingredients. Does x shampoo have more SDS in it than y shampoo even though their lists are identical? I am not trying to shirk SDS by any means... (or SLS) but it would be awesome to know what is actually really in the shampoo we're getting. If two conditioners have dimethicones as third ingredient on the list, does that mean that they are at the same concentration?
As someone with eczema, I use like handsoap and laundry detergent without fragrance, but I don't really avoid it for shower products personally. The thing is, there's just so many different fragrances used! They can be a common trigger for people, but it doesn't mean it has to be the case for you. When you don't know your specific triggers it could be many things you're reacting to. One of the downsides of like 'parfum' on the ingredient list is you also still don't know what it is so if you're allergic/react badlt to a specific one it's not obvious what else it could be in unfortunately.
I smell everything before I buy (even if I have to open the package to do so) cause scents make me so sick I can not spend money before I know what something smells like and scented lotions often burn my skin so I have to patch test on my hand. Fragrances are such a nuisance. I tend to not get sick or burned by things that smell like edible things like vanilla or cinnamon but floral and fake fruit scents make me headachy and cause bad nausea and sometimes burn my skin.
For those with fragrance allergies like me I absolutely love the Philip Kingsley no scent no colour conditioner, amodimethicone is the 3rd ingredient. The Philip Kingsley elasticizer deep conditioner is also fragrance free with amodimethicone but further down on the ingredients list. For something cheaper (at least in the US and available at Target) the ultra sensitive conditioner by Odele has amodimethicone as the 5th ingredient.
thank you! i don’t have a fragrance allergy but the strong fragrances of products in the shower makes me nauseous, and if im already sick it makes me throw up 🥲 i love a fragrance free option!
I just started using the Philip Kingsley fragrance free products because I can't tolerate any scent anymore. I never heard of Odele though. Does it work as well as Philip Kingsley? Is there a matching fragrance free shampoo?
Looks like I'll be using dry shampoo tomorrow because although I'm out of shampoo I'm not buying another bottle until I watch this. I swear I would have been a better student in high school and college if I had teachers who made learning complex concepts as easy and enjoyable as you do. Looking forward to reading your book!

UA-cam Who needs failing government education when we have UA-cam content creators like her? Seriously. I was home schooled and the greatest thing I was taught was not WHAT to learn, but rather HOW to learn, which is extremely person-specific.
This is why I hated the idea of needing chemistry 1&2 and organic chemistry 1&2 for my nursing pre-requisites and now I’m so fascinated by it I may be going into investigation. Excellent content 😎
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience I'm convinced that at least half of the people in the world who think they hate chemistry really just hate their gen chem profs.
Thanks for talking about silicones, I have very sensitive skin and I have had huge success with skincare products that have silicones and it’s frustrating to see all silicones demonized by clean beauty.
As a curly girl my hair has been so much better with minimal silicones & no sls because the silicones were weighing down my curls. But im sure silicones are great for the hair types that need them.
I have fairly straight hair, used to use Elseve for that and let me tell you : silicone killed my hair, and was a nightmare to take out. So no, it ain't all sunshine and flowers either. It suits those who got the right hair, not everyone. Be careful with that stuff

My bachelors in chemistry but i haven’t done any research and i went away from it after years .every time i watch your videos you inspire me to open my organic chemistry books again and start over
I do love the evidence-based way you look at things, and that you explain it so well. My favourite amodimethicone-containing conditioner is the Function of Beauty hair mask I use
As someone who religiously follow cgm, all the recommended sulphate and silicone free products didn't work for me , it made my hair drier and more frizzy until I read a review which said that silicone actually helped them and so I gave the loreal elvive HA shampoo and conditioner a go ,and my hair loves it , never ever had a softer and healthier hair . Would recommend if you have the same hair type as me : low porosity, dry , frizzy , coarse , thin and wavy. Love this video, thankyou.
@@solfuela1393 Idk why but this shampoo works better than the rest I've used , maybe it has to do with the climate as well , I live in a place with humid climate.
I second this. Same hair type, same cgm issue. My scalp doesn't love the HA shampoo (it seems to trigger my seborrheic dermatitis patches), but now I make it work by using Head & Shoulders on my scalp first, then the HA shampoo and conditioner. Haven't tried the mask yet. Is it worth it?
I love the Garnier Fructis acidic bonding line (“Hair Filler + Cemamidr”). It’s a fraction of the cost of the Redken and apparently owned by the same parent company. I also love your book, Michelle! Thanks for writing it. 😊
I've been using the Redken Bonding Concentrate Conditioner for a while now and i really do see a difference in my hair. It is so much smoother and shinier after each wash and i've noticed a lot less split ends after i've blow dried it.
I’ve been using TRESemmé Biotin+Repair MASK for over 4 years - it also contains Amodimethicone (in the beginning of the ingredients list!)❤ This brand is easily found in Europe. I also love shampoo from Biotin+Repair line.
2:06 I would love to see more on this ingredient vs formula... debate? Dunno how to call it. I think you've briefly talked about this in previous videos but I'd love to know more about the actual chemistry behind and how different ingredients together have different effects!
I have fine curly hair that constantly breaks off and my hair has never been past my chest my entire life. I had been using conditioners without silicones for years and just last year decided to give them a try. I literally went to marshalls and picked up some random moisturizing conditioner with silicones. My hair literally just hit past my chest after a year of using silicones!! I also use satin hair wraps but truthfully i think silicones saved my hair
I admit I thought this title was click-baity but then I watched it, I bought two products with Amodimethicone and - you are not exaggerating. I think this ingredient is seriously saving my hair too! I was having terrible frizz and dryness before. I saw an immediate improvement after using 2 amodimethicone products, and now after a month of consistent use, my hair feels totally different. For other people's reference: I am using Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Conditioner (from Ulta in the USA - it's pretty expensive) and Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Leave in Conditioner (from Target in the USA - it's cheap) and I'm using them both. THANK YOU!
Great video. There’s actually a product called “Lady’s Choice professional detangler and leave in conditioner “ that’s sold in the USA at most Dollar General stores. The 3rd ingredient is amodimethicone. And get this, it’s only $1.00! The first 2 ingredients are water and cyclopentasiloxane, which is another silicone. Just thought I’d pass this alone to others who live near a Dollar General store.
Thank you so much Michelle for this video, I think maybe I now understand why I find my favorite product so effective! On that note, because you did not mention it, I'll give it a shout out: it is the Pureology Color Fanatic Leave In Conditioner. Apparently, amodimethicone is the 3rd ingredient. This is a post for all my peri- and menopausal ladies out there... I don't process my hair in any way, but the decrease in hormone levels has wreaked havoc -with everything, hair included. I found this product, about a year ago, when my hair started thinning and became very brittle and dry. I found a video that addressed breakage and growing your hair longer, in a very simple manner. It was sensible advice and I bought into the logic. After adding this leave in conditioner to my routine, which only consists of shampooing and towel drying, my hair is feeling better and indeed "growing" longer. By the way, HRT did help clear up some issues, (e.g. I no longer struggle with brittle nails), but hair has not improved. I am grateful to have found an OTC product that addresses the sudden shift in hair health.
Is there a special way to spray in the pureology to ensure even distribution? I have it and sometimes my hair looks good, while other times not so much. I wonder if the not so good days are when it’s not distributed well? But I can’t seem to duplicate good results consistently, sigh.
@@ttest1682 I have fine, thin hair so I never spray directly to my hair. I spray a little into my hands and rake into my hair, focusing on the ends. Then I comb it through.
@@ttest1682I agree, I've never fallen in love with this product I don't get the hype. I might be using it wrong but I don't know how? I literally just spray it on damp hair like everyone else 😢
I have bleached baby fine hair that is pretty damaged and Redken Acidic Bonding Mask is like magic. I've also recently discovered Monday conditioner which has amodimethicone and, for me, it's an effective, economical alternative to more expensive daily conditioners-- it's only about $8 in the U.S
I swear by the acidic bonding line of Redken. The products literally transformed my hair. It feels healthier than its ever been and I have bleached blonde hair
I have tried most of the products you mentioned, I was using the Redken acidic bond repair, but then I tried the Dove intensive repair shampoo and conditioner, and O.M.G! I have not looked back, my Redken has been set aside on the shelf, nothing compares to it! I also sometimes use the Pantene miracle oil on my damp freshly washed hair before drying it. And they're both very affordable, and sold at Woolies / Coles❤
I’ve been using kids shampoo and conditioner for ages because I love what dimethicone does for my hair, it’s so nice to see a video explaining how it works. Plus recommendations for products for adults makes me feel so much better about this lol
I used the Amika “ the cure line” for four months straight after a bad bleach job- HUGE improvement- now I can just use the cure shampoo- does not weigh my fine hair down, and then drugstore rose water miracle moisture boost Pantene sulfate free conditioner- and leave in conditioner spray as needed - I like amika too
Probably a recommendation you have already considered/tried but I really love Olaplex No8. At the moment I only wash my hair once a week (mainly because I'm lazy but also super busy as a nurse) so the price tag isn't as scary for me but I can honestly say it has transformed my hair. Can't wait to read your book 🙌
Would definitely love to hear about scalp care! I’m just getting into using actual out of shower products so I know I’m going to need a clarifying shampoo at some point but it’s so confusing to find one!!!
If you live in Australia, a clarifying shampoo that I really love is one by a brand called Boss Curl. It's their Clean Curls Clarifying Shampoo. I think it would also work fine on non-curly hair. I find it to be really gentle but effective at removing buildup. I use this alongside a silicone scalp massaging brush. Hope this helps!
Thanks fit reviewing drugstore brands!!! I bought Pureology Color Fanatic 21 leave on conditioner and you are right - your favorite ingredient is number 3 on the list. What I would looooove for you to do is a deep dive into the whole color WOW series. I don’t know if it actually works or if it’s just influencer scam.
For my dyed wavy to curly hair what works well is to rinse the conditioner only lightly, leaving sort of a film behind. It is sort of the same effect of using a leave in conditioner. The Elvive products have been working great.
Had a hard time finding this ingredient, but finally found a product (leave-in conditioner spray) listing amodimethicone as fourth in the ingredient list. Tried it tonight, (frankly without much hope for a positive outcome). My naturally long, dry, coarse hair has become completely transformed to soft, shiny hair! I can’t thank you enough for this information!
after a YEAR of trying to smooth and hydrate my hair, your reskin recommendation did the trick, it was a noticeable improvement after just one use. i don't even have colored hair. thank you so much for explaining things and making your content. do you plan to make content about hair removal? would love to hear about ingrown hairs from shaving/waxing. or do you have any recommendations on channels that cover those topics?
The first product that pops into my mind as my favorite amodemethicone product is the Pureology Color Fanatic Leave In Spray. It is pricey but so good. In general, for drugstore products, I love a lot of the L'Oreal products. I went for a couple of years avoiding silicones b/c everyone said they were bad for your hair. My hair was a mess. As I found out more about ingredients I realize how wonderful silicones were for your hair. Looking back, I used to wash my hair every night using drugstore products and my hair was great. Thank you so much for your channel.
I’ve preordered your book and I’m so so excited! I’m a pharmacy student and am passionate about science education and you are such an inspiration for me, especially as an asian australian. To see someone who looks like me and has been such a great influence in a field I am so passionate about has been so impactful. So thank you !!!!
Thank you for this great video! I am a German pharmacist who loves skincare, haircare an make-up and I love to explain the way skincare works. That seems to make a great difference to my clients ❤
I started using Head and Shoulders bc of what you said about P&G having access to technology maybe others brands don’t and my hair really has been waaaaay better, way way less flakes. I do a second wash with Redken Volumizing shampoo but the H&S is great
My hairdresser likes them too but just adds that they can build up and weigh down you hair over time, so she recommends a clarifying shampoo or vinegar rinse every few washes. Seems to work for me. No science, just offering a thought 😊
Thank you so much! I checked all my hair products and for me amodimethicone works as well as for you did, my favorite is Redken leave-in 25 benefits one united, and amodimethicone is the third ingredient!! Really enjoying your videos! Hello from Brazil!
Very true! You wrote an article about it while ago and I purchased the Elvive masque (the red one) and yes. It’s wonderful. Smooth but light! I now always look for this ingredient. Thank you Michelle for the info you share!!!
Sunsilk soft & smooth conditioner in the yellow bottle! I get 300ml for USD2 where I'm from (love that it's cheaper than most other drugstore brands). It has dimethicone (3rd ingredient) and amodimethicone (10th ingredient). The only con is it leaves my bathroom floor sooo slippery it's borderline hazardous, but it works so well on my hair 😂 I sometimes mix it 1 to 1 with Schwarzkopf Bonacure Keratin Smooth Perfect Treatment (light purple packaging, 750ml for USD16) and I get chef's kiss results as well with slightly more manageable slippery floor 😊 This has dimethicone as 3rd and amodimethicone as 20th in its ingredients. For context I have thick, straight, partially bleached Asian hair, kinda like Michelle's. LOVE this video by the way! I never knew why I loved these products hah!
The elvive hialuronic condicioner is the best EVER. I am used to more expensive brands like l'oreal professionel, kerastade, wella professionel... But this elvive hialuronic condicioner is the best... My hair is thin, but it doesn't bild up, I get instant smooth and easy detangling...
Amodimethicone in my leave-in conditioner has absolutely saved my hair during bad depressive episodes. My two go-to options are AG Conditioning Mist (when I want something lighter) and AG Fast Food (when I want something richer). I personally don’t do as well with amodimethicone in rinse-out conditioners, but it’s been long enough since that particular experiment that I’m definitely willing to try it again at some point.
Could we have a chat about SLS and sensitive skin and sculp? Via process of elimination we've (our household ) found to be super itchy after using products that contain SLS as part of the ingredients list. After switching to SLS free products, the itchiness has reduced to barely noticeable on the body and basicly cured persistent dandruff and inflammation bumps on the sculp.(Nothing else was changed in the routines) Would really love to hear the science around this 🙌
This made me realize why whole blends conditioner works so well for me! I don't think you tried that one but amodimethicone is 4th on the list. They have a curley hair version that's higher on the list so I'm gonna try that!
For the leave in conditioners I've always been taught (By my hairdresser) to apply them to damp hair and that seems to make the spreading of the product quite a bit easier for me (and you'll need less product). Also she made me use both a wash off conditioner (let that sit for several minutes, before washing it off and then after toweldrying my hair (with a microfiber towel, just pat it dry and minimise rubbing) ) and then a leave in conditioner while the hair is still damp/moist. And yeah my hair products of choice are all redken, pricey up-front but you'll need less product, so in the long run it doesn't seem to be more expensive to me at all)
Thanks for this video! I would love to see the video you mentioned about why you can't rely on ingredients list. I would also super appreciate a video about hair porosity, especially low porosity. Is it a thing? Is it why my hair is so dry? I feel like there's a lot of content about high porosity from bleaching but not much about low porosity and it's hard to vet that info.
I’d like that video too. I read every ingredients list, so I’d like to be better informed. And I also have low porosity hair (1A I believe) so finding products that work that don’t weigh down or not sink in is a struggle.
I’ve been using Silk oil of Morocco ARGAN HAIR & SKIN TREATMENT (serum) on and off for about 15 years. After watching your video, I had a look at the ingredients - it has Cyclomethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane & Dimethiconol. This product is very good for making your hair look and feel healthier, even if it is like straw. I’ve bleached my hair for the last 20 years, so I’ve tried a lot of products. The bonus of this product is, it’s made in Australia. Was originally created to help cancer patients. Beautiful brand!
I've used their products before and liked the results but I always change and switch it up. Thanks for the info, I will definitely give them another go.
I'm planning to do a long video on bond builders, but I have an old short video on how K18 works! It's sponsored so I don't think I posted it on YT, but it should be on my IG and TT 😊
I use the Paul Mitchel Super Strong Liquid Treatment spray, and I really like it. Amodimethicone is the second ingredient, but it also has panthenol, a bunch of extracts, and Peg-12 dimethicone lower down the list. (I could have sworn you recommended it, but maybe I just googled for products after I read your amodimethicone blog post.) I also really like the Elizavecca product when I have time for a mask.
YES YES YES! This is the video I didn't even know I needed. I just realized SO many of the products I love have amodimethicone in them. Just switched back to an older leave-in spray because the new one I tried wasn't cutting it; I looked up the ingredients for the old one - #2 was amodimethicone! Would love to get a video on ingredients and why formulation is key! Thank yoooou
@@natmya243 I use a lot of the ones on the list - the Redken Acidic Bond concentrate (conditioner and treatment) and the Elizavecca cer-100; I do, however, use one leave-in conditioner spray by AG, which is the one I went back to. I have very fine, colour treated hair with a hint of wave and very oil scalp so these work for me.
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience would be interested to watch that. I have bleached damaged hair and "should" get good results from a bond builder product but my hair hates them and I have tried various ones. I get better results from conditioner than from any bonding product and I do not know why.
Saw this right before I had to go buy new shampoo so it was a big help! My current conditioner (Suave Keratin Infusion) has amodimethicone and I love that I can just slather it on almost like a mask and get deep hydration that doesn’t weigh down my hair. It’s pretty affordable and they even have a color safe version of the formula!
4:49 the damage leading to negative charge and hydrophilic tendencies makes sense for those of us with curly hair when you consider porosity. Low porosity hair that absorbs water less easily is associated with less damage.
can you make a video about how (and why) hair regrowth sometimes isn't the same texture of the hair you originally had and how to deal with it , thank you !
I literally read your old blog post on this a couple of days ago because I had a sample of a product containing this and I don’t use silicones! Incredible timing!
I avoided silicones on my virgin wavy hair and it worked wonders on the definition however after bleaching it i knew that i needed to use silicones and i can say they saved my hair too 🎉
I took your advice and bought some amodimethicone wash-out conditioner for my damaged triple-bleached hair. I live in the Netherlands and got the L'Oréal Elvive Rapid Reviver conditioner. My expectations weren't high but it actually does work wonders. Turned my dry crunchy frizzy hay into smooth hair again! Great video, thank you ❤
For my 4C hair girlies: Shea Moisture Intensive Hydration Hair Masque has "cetrimonium chloride" 16th ingredient out of 24 ingredients. That ingredient is "similar" to amodimethicone.
I've been trying to do something with my wavy hair and decided to finally switch to professional products. I was always told to avoid silicones like the plague because they are all bad when it comes to the Curly Girl Method (and my very fine, easily weighted down hair), and I didn't notice the conditioner I was given at the hairdresser supply store contains Amodimethicone but now I'm actually looking forward to trying it, so thank you for enlightening me yet again.
Ah, several of these products are ones I use and love. so good chance it's the amodimethicone. Yes please on a video about why you can't just rely on ingredients lists. Thank you!
I was one of the models they tested the Redken ABC shampoo and conditioners on at their testing salon here in NYC. I also have bleached hair (I dyed it purple, too) but my hair is curly. And the shampoo alone left my hair feeling softer than anything I'd ever tried before.
Would love to hear your thoughts on shampoo and conditioner bars. It’s in line with my values/goals to decrease plastics but not sure if it’s as effective as liquid hair care products.
The L’Oréal Hyaluronic plump spray has been the best thing I’ve put on my hair. Thick, fine, untreated hair, long and can get frizzy. This spray makes my hair go smooth and glossy within minutes but doesn’t make it heavy and greasy. Thanks for all the info on parabens silicones etc. I now have a greater range to choose from. Currently using a L’Oréal glycolic shampoo and conditioner and love it. So much less expensive too🎉
Thanks for this! Now I know why this product works: In the United States, John Frieda's Frizz Ease Daily Nourishment Leave-in Conditioner (in spray pump) has amodimethicone as the third ingredient. I have found this works well on my thick, voluminous, curly hair, especially as I welcome new patches of gray. I don't use it all the time, but when I've had to diffuse, this is a great product for the next day. Glad to have found your channel!
I grabbed the elvive hyaluron conditioner and the garnier stuff in a pinch and my curly hair LOVES it. Its so nice to find out what might be helping with that. Thank you!
Pureology Color Fanatic Multitasking Leave-in Conditioner is awesome! It smoothes out my frizzy ends. Amodimethicone is the 3rd ingredient on the list. Plus it smells nice, not overpowering
Great video as always! I personally don't buy from L'Oreal so a lot of haircare recommendations aren't of use to me as they dominate the market, but I appreciate you including the specific ingredients and giving clear explanations so we can do our own research
I've never paid attention to amodimethicone before, but I did notice that every single conditioner with behentrimonium chloride high on the ingredients list makes my hair super smooth and soft. I know nothing about chemistry so I'm curious if it has special properties too.
I have curly hair and I also love this silicone! My favorite leave on cream with this is Kératine Discipline Thermique cream I have been using it for more than 5-6 years now, I highly recommend it for bleached hair! I mostly straighten it with the Revlon brush so it works for curly and straight hair! ❤
I really like the Redkin One United spray. I leave it on for a minute or two, then wash it out. My hair is so smooth and silky after using it. While watching this video I checked the ingredients and it has amodimethicone third!
garnier fructis bond repair has amodimethicone in the top 5 ingredients! and it’s cheap, available everywhere there’s a hair aisle + smells really nice!
I love silicones and amodimethicone! 💜 I have dry, fine curly hair and started my curly hair journey 10 years ago. The first few years I followed the "traditional CGM" and my hair was dull, my curl pattern was more wavy than curly, and my hair was SO dry. I quit the traditional CGM, and after years of trial and error trying many hair products, found that my curls LOVE silicones, some sulphates, lighter oils and butters, and wax esters. My hair is super prone to knotting and matting, but my hair will drink up products with silicones! It takes over 12 hours for my hair to fully air dry so I need those silicones and conditioning agents 😅
Often people use wash off conditioner then follow up with a leave-in conditioner after and I keep wondering if it’s necessary as both products have the same purpose. Both of them are meant to coat the hair for that soft feel so why do the same thing twice when we can just use one of the two ?
Not everyone needs to use both, but hair can be so finnicky that I think once people have found what works for them, they're willing to use two steps rather than go through the hassle of finding a one step product. I also find it useful for adding conditioning back to hair since it wears off over time (on pillows, brushes etc), but my hair is very damaged!
Thank you soooo much for your looking into this and sharing this information. I just went through the ingredient list of my fav products and see that amodimethicone is indeed 3 or 4th on the ingredient list for those. I can switch out for cheaper ones as it's no longer a mystery. Thank you sooo much for de-mystifying the haircare industry!
For me “Bis-amino propyl dinithicone “ was the hair changing ingredient and i found it in Pantene . It tames my hair like a dream when i have extremely damaged hair.
In the '80's i used to mix Johnson's detagling spray with Infusium 23 50/50, spray and leave in, it made my hair look so good, my corkscew curls were beautifully defined and bouncy.
for viewers in Indonesia, the Makarizo Advisor anti-frizz & detangling spray has amodimethicone 2nd on its ingredient list. it's affordable and it works quite well on my hair. i've been using it regularly for a couple years & haven't found a better replacement.
Thanks for your videos. Iam a fan! A question. Is it the Redken conditioner that does the heavy lifting with amodimethicone or you have to use both the Redken shampoo and conditioner for best result? Thanks :).

I am convinced that these companies constantly discontinue good products so that we have to buy more products to find another good one. Loreal owns so much of the products that they don't have to worry about losing a customer.
That's in interesting but logical theory
Actually from business perspective it does not make sense to sell hair products that do not damage your hair, because you do not need to buy so much of it. Nivea used to have a shampoo that was perfect for my hair. It cured my scalp problems, my hair stopped being oily at the scalp dry at the ends, I did not need a hair conditioner, and they discontinued the product.
I know, they are almost a monopoly.
So happy to hear they're working for you!
@@madlenj.4644 my shedding had nothing to do with scalp issues. I have very long hair and detangling it without silicones was simply ripping it out.
It was a staple in my routine when my hair was relaxed!
I used it up to a few years ago, I think, when Walmart stopped carrying it! It was my favorite leave-in! It made my frizzy ( I found out, curly hair) manageable💗💗💗
My friend way back when had really silky hair, and she told me she used infusium 23. Never would have remembered that if not for your comment!
I remember it. There was a spray that was a maroon like bottle with a gold top I think. Worked amazingly!
I TOTALLY forgot about this product! 😮

Hey, what Brand do you use?

@@ehhh888 oh, thanks, I'll look into them. Idk if I can find them in my country but might be a nice product for me

I would love to know more about scalp issues too
Yes that's on the very long to-do list!
Do you know another evidence based creators with other hair profiles? 😊 thank you!
me too!
I wish my husband and I could *choose* to use heavily fragranced products! But we both have eczema and migraines [though his are way worse than mine].
I don't have a sensitive scalp but a pretty sensitive nose. I feel so uncomfortable and getting headaches when I use fragranced products.
Thank you so much, I can't do fragrance!
Thank you for the recommendations!
This is my favorite too!
thank you! i don’t have a fragrance allergy but the strong fragrances of products in the shower makes me nauseous, and if im already sick it makes me throw up 🥲 i love a fragrance free option!

I literally went to marshalls and picked up some random moisturizing conditioner with silicones. My hair literally just hit past my chest after a year of using silicones!! I also use satin hair wraps but truthfully i think silicones saved my hair
How’s your hair doing now?
Most of these are available in India, i love you so much for suggesting global affordable brands ❤❤❤❤
I just started using Pureology Color Fanatic Leave In Conditioner and I can already tell a difference in my hair!
I swear by Pureology Color Fanatic Leave In Conditioner. It's saved my over processed hair

Good to see you around. I follow your content here on yt. Kind regards
Sunsilk soft & smooth conditioner in the yellow bottle! I get 300ml for USD2 where I'm from (love that it's cheaper than most other drugstore brands). It has dimethicone (3rd ingredient) and amodimethicone (10th ingredient). The only con is it leaves my bathroom floor sooo slippery it's borderline hazardous, but it works so well on my hair 😂
I sometimes mix it 1 to 1 with Schwarzkopf Bonacure Keratin Smooth Perfect Treatment (light purple packaging, 750ml for USD16) and I get chef's kiss results as well with slightly more manageable slippery floor 😊 This has dimethicone as 3rd and amodimethicone as 20th in its ingredients.
Mentos and Tic-Tacs used as units of measurement? I love it!
Thanks for teaching. Available in Canada
Could we have a chat about SLS and sensitive skin and sculp? Via process of elimination we've (our household ) found to be super itchy after using products that contain SLS as part of the ingredients list. After switching to SLS free products, the itchiness has reduced to barely noticeable on the body and basicly cured persistent dandruff and inflammation bumps on the sculp.(Nothing else was changed in the routines) Would really love to hear the science around this 🙌
Could you talk about lamellar water? I cannot believe how soft and silky it makes my hair, to the point where it almost makes me nervous
She talks about lamellar water at 13:02
I love when you talk about haircare!! 😍
And yeah my hair products of choice are all redken, pricey up-front but you'll need less product, so in the long run it doesn't seem to be more expensive to me at all)
It's my holy grail ingredient as well! I love it!!
My favorite products are:
- L'Oréal elvital/elvive/elseve shine conditioner
-L'Oréal elvital/elvive/elseve bond repair conditioner
- L'Oréal elvital/elvive/elseve anti-breakage hair mask
- Matrix miracle creator leave-in conditioner
@@TwisterTornado I have never tried it. But I'd assume it's just a type of conditioner.
Same re. an ingredients list video!
I’ve been using Silk oil of Morocco ARGAN HAIR & SKIN TREATMENT (serum) on and off for about 15 years. After watching your video, I had a look at the ingredients - it has
Cyclomethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane & Dimethiconol.
Could you talk about K18? I really wanna understand the science behind it and I love the way you always explain it :)
I'm planning to do a long video on bond builders, but I have an old short video on how K18 works! It's sponsored so I don't think I posted it on YT, but it should be on my IG and TT 😊
@LabMuffinBeautyScience I just checked it out, thank you! Looking forward to the long video :D
I love you Michelle! Ex lab person here (biology, not chemistry) so this is the geek talk I need for beauty!!!!! 🤩🤩 Science rocks ❤
Thank yoooou
brands please
@@natmya243 I use a lot of the ones on the list - the Redken Acidic Bond concentrate (conditioner and treatment) and the Elizavecca cer-100; I do, however, use one leave-in conditioner spray by AG, which is the one I went back to. I have very fine, colour treated hair with a hint of wave and very oil scalp so these work for me.
@@aflibbertigibbet Thank you for the tips :)
Yessss ! I've been waiting for a Muffin Analysis on Redken!
This isn't even the main part of the ABC range - I need to do a proper video on bond builder chemistry!
@@LabMuffinBeautyScienceyes! I’m seeing hair bonding products everywhere now and don’t get what they’re for.
I'm so excited about your freakin' book!! Congrats!
4:49 the damage leading to negative charge and hydrophilic tendencies makes sense for those of us with curly hair when you consider porosity. Low porosity hair that absorbs water less easily is associated with less damage.
We need a deep dive into whether Pantene is bad for your hair or not 😍😍😍😍😍 my hair has never been the same after I stopped using it 😕.
can you make a video about how (and why) hair regrowth sometimes isn't the same texture of the hair you originally had and how to deal with it , thank you !
YES to the future video about products and ingredients! thank you! im saving up to buy the book, been a rough few months
You can also ask your local library to buy a copy! 😊
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience do you sell in switzerland?
pureology color fanatic leave in spray is the best imo for this ingredient for me!
Mi cabello afro adora las siliconas.
That's so cool!!
Would love to hear your thoughts on shampoo and conditioner bars. It’s in line with my values/goals to decrease plastics but not sure if it’s as effective as liquid hair care products.
I second!! I find bar shampoos really drying in general!
So much less expensive too🎉
Congrats on your book! Excited for you!
Just purchased your book
I grabbed the elvive hyaluron conditioner and the garnier stuff in a pinch and my curly hair LOVES it. Its so nice to find out what might be helping with that. Thank you!
Pureology Color Fanatic Multitasking Leave-in Conditioner is awesome! It smoothes out my frizzy ends. Amodimethicone is the 3rd ingredient on the list. Plus it smells nice, not overpowering
My absolute favorite 💗I get it from Ulta when I get my $10 off of $40 coupon 😆
@debbie_LJ Gotta love the Ulta coupons that work with the prestige brands
I love it. It works so well on my fine nordic hair.
It has a very strong smell though which I found overpowering.
@natmya243 I don't think so, but to each their own.
Smells really good too! Wish it was cheaper
I thought that was supposed to be a leave in product.....
@@natmya243 I use it as a leave in...🤷♀️
garnier fructis bond repair has amodimethicone in the top 5 ingredients! and it’s cheap, available everywhere there’s a hair aisle + smells really nice!
I am soooo stoked that you have a book out! I ordered it right away! June 25👏🏻
I love silicones and amodimethicone! 💜
I have dry, fine curly hair and started my curly hair journey 10 years ago.
Redkin Acidic Bonding Concentrate has saved my processed hair.
So strange how so many people find it drying, I was put off trying it because of that.
Thanks :).
