Chemistry DIY Buff here! Knowing my own low Porosity hair, there's a couple changes I would make solely to be more "UNIVERSAL". Guar, Protein and Dimethicone are VERY temperamental in a lot of peoples hair. Guar gives AMAZING slip and definition but it dries down with a surprising "cast" and can even flake!, that and I feel most people don't use a leave in for hold. Dimethicone also has a tendency to buffer against curl definition in very coarse hair. Protein, some people hair flat out hate it. - I would substitute the Emulsifier with BTMS / Cetyl Alcohol in the heat phase - I would drop the dimethicone (if your hair is coarse / low porosity), there is just too much reporting of negative reactions associated with it. - I wouldn't recommend protein at all in a universal detangler because it can dramatically reduce slip in some folks hair. Again, this is only relative to my hair. I like to leave options for Coarse/Low Porosity/ Protein sensitive hair types. I tend to formulate my leave ins to be more creamy and unctuous
@@Sloppyjoey1 hi, would the emulsifier and all other ingredients remain the same, or would the proportions have to be readjusted? Or would the entire formula change? Thank you in advance!

Wow, Yaya! Your leave-in conditioner formula sounds amazing! I love how you've explained each ingredient and its purpose. Your attention to detail really shows your dedication to creating a high-quality product. Keep up the great work!
Hi YaYa, I love this conditioning recipe for the leave in. However, can you make something that has the same benefits as this leaving but is more intermediate and preserves well. Thank you so much for what you do. You are such a big help for those who love DIY‘s.
Great video! I had requested you make more hair products like leave in conditioners; and also facial creams and serums. I was over all the body butter videos. So I was excited to see this one. I made a leave in conditioner with almost the same ingredients, only I find that polyquaternium 10 builds up in the hair, HEAVY. Atleast for mine and my daughters hair type it does. We all have super long, very wavy hair. I used polyquaternium 7, 37, and a touch of polyquaternium 11 for styling benefits. It worked out beautifully! Can't wait to see you make more hair products.
Thank you so much for sharing! I will definitely do more. However, there are still some body butters and hair butters coming. 😅 I will do my best to keep a balance from here on out. I watched this just when I needed it. Thank you🙏 so much for sharing.😊 I was wondering if the preservative would still be effective if the conditioner is in a jar? If yes, for how long?
Yay! Happy to help! The only way to know the effectiveness of a preservative is to test it in a lab. This can be expensive and time consuming. For us at home, it is best to follow the usage rate and other instructions as much as possible. See what ingredients will change its effectiveness for better or for worse. The pH is also important when dealing with preservatives. All in all, this formula has a lot of water in it. I was actually planning to use an even stronger preservative due to the high water content, but I wanted to test this one out first. Putting this into a jar will be messy and will introduce more microbes from putting the hand in the jar. Just something to think about when testing. I hope this helps. 💜💜😊
Thank you so much for this. I wanted to ask whether it's possible to add glycerine to the cool down phase. I forgot to add it during the heated water phase.
Thank you! I do not recommend that. Your emulsion will have lots of air bubbles and may not emulsify completely. It may be better to make sure you allow your ingredients to completely dissolve and hydrate before combining the oil and water phases. From there, you can gently stir with a spatula or a stirring rod. However, I am only speaking for this particular formulation. Thicker formulas will 100% need an immersion blender of some sort. This is great slip!!😍 I'm wondering if I can replace hydroyzled rice protein with something else? My hair is protein sensitive. Also can we replace vegetable glycerin?
Hi Zra! Yes, you can replace both of them with more distilled water or omit them from the formula altogether. To replace the rice protein, look for botanical extracts. To replace the glycerin, you use another humectant like honey or more of the propanediol. I hope this helps. 💜😊

Thank you Becca! I tried to change it up a little. Also, I will add that to the list and look into it. I have a huge list of request that I am working my way though now. 😊💜
HI YAYA, thank you for your wonderful recipes, as for this one the product you use, like long names ones, are for professionals, what could diyers use instead ? Thank you Alain.
There are a lot of DIY ingredients like herbs that can give your product some slip. Slippery elm, xanthan gum, marshmallow root, oils, etc. Just know that it is harder to preserve these raw ingredients and more difficult to correctly stabilize them in the product. In most cases, you need a lot to even get half the slip. I hope this helps.
Heyy, hope you’re good, can I used a conditioner base to make a leave in and how would I make it a leave in? Sorry if this doesn’t make sense. The condition base is made with 10% Raw Organic Cocoa Butter and 10% Virgin Castor Oil. 500g conditioner base makes 3 liters conditioner. That’s the info I have from the company that sells the conditioner base.
I have a question & I’m serious😂 if l made the conditioner following your ingredients but changing maybe 3or4 things would l be able to sell it?? Bcuz I have my shampoo but conditioner is hard… But fr that’s my question??
Considering that I have never made a conditioner from scratch and I have none of these ingredients in the house what this be a good place to start? Would I break my bank trying to buy every ingredient ? I am so curious because I do not want to spend alot of money on ingredients.......
Hi, Sorry that I have to be that person. I am i the uk and am unable to get these ingredients Polyquaternium 10, LotionPro 165, PolyGel Emollient. Do you know of any substitutions. I know it wont give the amount of slip but hopefully something close. I do have btms-50 can that be used in the oil phase as the emulsifier?
Hi! No worries. Feel free to ask anything. I will do my best to help. am not sure how well BTMS 50 will work with such a large water phase. Btms 50 usually works best with more viscous (heavier creams) formulations. It may be worth a try though. There is really no emulsifier like LotionPro 165 that I know of. However, there are emulsifiers that will emulsify such a large water phase with oils like Polysorbate 20 and/or Ceteareth 20. The final product may change. The polyquaternum 7 acts as a conditioning agent and thickener. You may be able to try something like Hydroxyethylcellulose. It is a great thickener, but can be tricky to work with. You will have to make up for the conditioning properties with another ingredient. emollients
Sorry the Polygel Emollient can be replaced with other emollients like liquid oils, but they will not thicken the product. I really do not know of any ingredients similar to PolyGel Emollients, but I will keep an eye out. I hope this helps. 💜💜💜😊
Hey Yaya love your videos. I want to try making this however, can is use BTMS 50 or 25. I’m trying to stay away from PEGs and silicones so i plan to switch the dimethicone with natrasil.
Thank you for watching! I would be careful. Most of the ingredients are film forming and bond to the hair strands to strengthen, condition, add slip, and sheen to the hair strands. Too much of this product may be overwhelming for those with low porosity hair. Make sure to follow up with a clarifying shampoo at least once a week or once every other week to remove any build up. I used the bare minimum of each ingredient and carefully chose them to reduce build up. However, what works for one, may not work for the other. I hope this helps. 😊💜
Hi Yaya, I live in the UK and I’m not sure if I can find the same products here or if they have other names. Can I please ask you if guar cat and guar gum are the same? I’ve always wanted to learn how to make products as I find that some products I use don’t go with my hair and it would be nice to formulate products that will work for me. Thank you in advance 😊
Guar Cat is the same thing as Cationic Guar Gum. You can always find the product by it's INIC. The INIC for Guar Cat is- INCI: Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride.
There is really no replacement that I know of. I will look around and get back to you. In the meantime, you can use more water or a different emollient (like an oil or more water) to make up for it missing in the formula. However, this will drastically reduce the viscosity and change the consistency. Try adding more of another thickener to make up for it. I hope this helps. 💜😊
Are there ingredients that I can leave out and replace? I want to make something like this but with honey but leave out some ingredients that aren’t necessary
Hi Jennell! You can replace one of the humectants for the honey, like glycerin or propanediol. This may change the consistency and feel of the final product. You could leave out most ingredients depending on what you are looking for. Dimethicone, polyquaternium 7, shea butter, sweet almond oil, and a few more are just there to improve the overall feel, texture, and conditioning of the detangler. Water, a good thickener, an emulsifier, preservative and conditioning agent could be more than enough for a very simple conditioner. It probably won't be as good for detangling though. I hope this helps. 💜😊
This ma'am I am your subscriber for a long time I want to ask you one thing whatever you show us the material that you show after it is made there is some material that you hide after it is made I mean it is complete recipe? 😅 but i love you from india (delhi)

Considering that I have never made a conditioner from scratch and I have none of these ingredients in the house what this be a good place to start? Would I break my bank trying to buy every ingredient ? I am so curious because I do not want to spend alot of money on ingredients.......
Can you formulate a hair mist spray for 4b-4c hair? Lots of slippage

@@YayaDIYCreations I will definitely be supporting! Thank you 😊
I'm not ready for this one Sis...I'd buy it though.
What's instead of polygel....
And can usePQ7only...?
Thanks Yaya for sharing amazing formula ever.... .
Hey Yaya love your videos. I want to try making this however, can is use BTMS 50 or 25. I’m trying to stay away from PEGs and silicones so i plan to switch the dimethicone with natrasil.
She said, it may be worth trying but it may not come out so well in that light product, it works better in heavier butters.
Can you prepare this leave-in conditioner from pre-made base?
What can be used as an alternative for the PolyGel Emollient please?
Thank you so much can you make a conditioner for dreadlocks
Happy to help! I am working on a conditioner and shampoo for locs. 😊💜
Could you please do a simpler formula? This one is way too complex for me. Thank you!
What could be the substitute to some of the ingredients
Can you do a video making a pre pop with aloe vera
Hello Yaya please how can I reach you? I love your DIY’s! You are doing very great job and thank you for sharing!
oh my goodness Yaya that looks creamalicious!!
Please is there any alternative for hydrolysed protein, as I'm allergic 😢?
Is this conditioner for low porosity hair. I love your products
Do you do any skin product to I know my family love it all thank make itj
Hi yaya, thank you for all your efforts, please let me know the replacement of Polygel Emollient, because I can’t not find it at my place.
@@YayaDIYCreations thank you so much for your answer. If possible please let me know the good substitute.🙏🏻
I need a leave in deep conditioner recipe.
This is chemistry class right here
😂😂😅😅 Right!
Is there any particular reason why you didn’t blend it please?
This ma'am I am your subscriber for a long time I want to ask you one thing whatever you show us the material that you show after it is made there is some material that you hide after it is made
