The 7-movie Fast & Furious franchise is the most popular series Universal Studios has ever produced. In the second Fast & Furious movie, the competition heats up. While it doesn't win in the movie, the Yenko™/SC Camaro® is a real winner today. In 1969, Don Yenko ordered unique Camaros under the special GM COPO program. 201 Camaros with L-72 engines and other performance extras. Kit features detailed 427ci engine and tube headers, front and rear spoilers, cowl-induction hood with matching air cleaner, chrome parts, and soft black tires.
Highly detailed pieces molded in white, transparent red and clear
Chrome plated parts and soft black tires
Detailed 427 c.i. engine and tube headers
    Front and rear spoilers
Cowl-induction hood with matching air cleaner
    Waterslide decals
    Illustrated instructions
The Yenko Super Camaro was a modified Chevrolet Camaro prepared by Yenko Chevrolet, developed by the dealership owner and racer, Don Yenko.
When the Camaro debuted, a General Motors corporate edict prevented it from carrying an engine larger than 400 in³ (6.6 L) V8. This put the Camaro at a disadvantage to the Ford Mustang, Plymouth Barracuda and the Dodge Dart since neither Ford nor Plymouth/Dodge had such a limit (although Ford only had a 390 Mustang in 1967). Don Yenko and others knew there was a market for a more powerful Camaro and found ways around the GM limit.
Yenko ordered L78 equipped SS Camaros and swapped in the Chevrolet Corvette's L72 427 in³ (7.0 L) V8. The cars came with a 4.10 rear end and heavy-duty suspension. The approximate number of cars produced is 106. Yenko also installed a fiberglass replacement hood similar to the "Stinger" hood featured on 1967 big-block Corvettes. The Camaros were equipped with a M21 transmission. The horsepower was rated at 450 hp (336 kW).
Encouraged by the success of the 1967 model, Yenko continued to produce his Yenko Super Camaros for 1968. The 1968 Yenko Super Camaros started life as Super Sports with L78 396 in³ 375 hp (280 kW) hp engine and close ratio 4-speed Muncie transmission. Yenko also ordered the cars with COPO 9737 which included a 140 mph (230 km/h) speedometer, a larger 1 1/8th inch front anti-sway bar, and a special trim tag. Yenko swapped out the factory 396 in³ short-block for the L72 427 in³ 450 hp (336 kW) short-block reusing the rest of the 396 in³ engine's components including the heads, carburetor, intake manifold, etc. He swapped the stock hood for a twin-snorkel fiberglass hood and added Pontiac's 14"x6" steel wheels with special Yenko caps, Yenko emblems gracing the front grill, front fenders and tail panel. 427 emblems were added to the tail panel and front fenders as well. The cars had a Yenko Super Camaro serial-numbered tag in the driver's side door jamb and Stewart Warner pedestal-mounted tachometer and gauges were installed in the interior. Early cars got a rear spoiler made for Yenko and later cars all got the factory spoilers front and rear. The recognized production number for these cars is approx 64 cars converted, with well less than half of that number known to exist today.
For 1969, the dealership worked with Chevrolet to have the L72 engines installed on the factory assembly line using a Central Office Production Order, or COPO. The orders included power disc brakes, spoilers, cowl-induction hood, a 4.10 Positraction rear end with gears that were heat treated for strength, a bigger front sway bar, and a heavy-duty 4-core radiator. Buyers of the car had the option of either the M-21 four speed or the Turbo Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission. A total of 201 cars were sold in 1969, 171 with four speed transmissions and 30 with automatic transmissions. Yenko rounded out the visual package with special "Yenko 427" badges, stripes down the sides and hood, and the sYc (Yenko Super Car) on the headrests. According to the Camaro Research Group, standard black interior (code 711) was the only interior ordered by Yenko in 69.

This is one of your best builds ever, IMO. This is a weirdly equipped ‘69 Z, PS, PB, tilt steering column with the standard plastic steering wheel instead of the beautiful 3-spoke wood rim wheel? Odd.
things, GM washer bottles were white plastic, translucent so the fluid shows through. Also that steering wheel was all-black.
One of Revells best kits ever…

Nice kit unboxing, review, and build as usual, Chris. For your readers out there not familiar with the 1969 Yenko Camaros and not mentioned in the kit description/write-up, Chevy only offered six (6) factory color choices: Daytona Yellow, Hugger Orange, Olympic Gold (the rarest color choice), Rallye Green, Fathom Green, or LeMans Blue. All cars came with black interiors, but you could opt for a black vinyl top in lieu of a body-colored roof. Not sure though what the production numbers break down to between the two choices. In addition to applying the Yenko 427 badges and SYC headrest decals, Yenko Chevrolet gave the customer the choice between the black or white striping package which were applied at the dealership in Canonsburg PA. I can see me eventually buying at least six of these kits to build, one in each color...LOL. 😀👍🇺🇸

I just finished the Revel USA version myself last week. I painted mine in bright green metallic. I’ll have to see how you set the engine. Mine would not sit properly. Interesting - my front grill was with the chrome section - I used Tamiya’s black wash to darken it.
The exhaust on mine did not have those locating pins.
My instruction sheet is nothing like what you had. Mine had a bit of guess work to deal with.

Another entertaining and informative video. Really impressed by the dry brushing on the floorpan and firewall and the results it gave you. Definitely going to have to try it on a build someday. A couple of notes about the 2 Fast 2 Furious movie car. It was not equipped with the Atlas wheels seen in your video, but rather factory sized Cragar S/S wheels. I found a nice set in the Revell street machine release of the 1967 GTX. And the movie car had the Year One decal in the rear window and the Year One front license plate. Both B.F. Goodrich and Year One were companies with product placement in the film and front and center on this Camaro. Not trying to be (an obnoxious) rivet counter, I just think it might be info someone might be interested in if they were trying to replicate the movie car as closely as possible. Along these lines, the movie car was also equipped with a small block 350 instead of the correct for a Yenko 427 that comes with the kit. All part of that "if you can't see it, we're not going to worry about it" Hollywood Magic.😅

I wish my Polar Lights '64 GTO was this "part replete" especially when it comes to the clear head lamps and chrome backing like you see with your Yenko kit, Chris! I have never seen such detail involving head lights. Like the PL GTO they are just part of the chrome grill and look fake as hell. Love this video! I have not really started my '64 GTO but I wanted to something kind of special so I have removed the roof using a Dremel tool and I will build this one into a drop top. Wish me luck!

Another great build of a well engineered Revell kit. You did a great job building the kit with the exception of using Revell silver on the transmission instead of Testors silver. Lol.
I’m currently building a Revell Germany kit of the ‘78 Chevrolet Corvette. It is basically the same as the Monogram version, but like the Camaro you built, the decals are expanded. Revell Germany kits are just awesome.
Thanks for sharing a build of this wonderful well engineered kit with us. Your videos are well appreciated. I’m still looking for a hpiguys T-shirt to proudly wear, and a sticker to place on my model toolbox. I totally understand the issues with taxes, but you will make enough money that the taxes won’t be an issue.

    • @ronaldhuff635

the designers never have as a rule done that, and MOST cars out there HAVE power steering
when we were young, we took all of that off because it robbed horsepower but now gas and oil is expensive, AND WE'RE OLD,
WE can see the reasoning in having it all on the car

Simply amazing how you can get the decals to just slide into place. Not my experience by any means. Decals are the hardest part from my experience. So Chris, can you do a vid where you demonstrate your technique with decals? I think it would be very helpful myself. ok I get it, it's not what your channel is all about. Just askin. 🙂Your models always come out spectacular. Love your work.

      Thanks!
I've demonstrated it in dozens and dozens of videos. Wet the decal and slide it off. It really is that simple.
If they aren't sliding easy, you aren't letting them soak long enough and not using enough water or decal solvent on the model.
Try one drop of dish soap in your warm water dish next time and give the decals a minute to soak.
      Enjoy!

@@hpiguy I bet that's what my problem is, I'm not letting them soak long enough and when I get them on the model they're very hard to move and I end up tearing them. When I've tried Microset the decals have disintegrated, shattered. I don't know why, maybe it was the decals themselves in those cases or again I didn't let them soak long enough. I should make a point to test it on one that is less significant off the sheet first before using it on the more important decals. Thanks for the tip!

That is a truly awesome color! Sorry to get off subject, but do, or perhaps know anyone that might have or make side view mirrors for the 67-69 Chevrolets? Camaro, Chevelle, Impalas? I’m building a 67 Camaro and I’ve searched all I know how, but I’m not familiar with enough builders to know who really to ask. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Is the brush on glue a new thing you are doing? I don’t recall u using that before. Is it messy? What type is it? How is the bond? I’d love to know more. Amazing build by the way. You make it look so easy!

Liquid glues usually brush on or you can use a syringe applicator. I haven't used the thick tube glue since I was a kid but a lot of people still like it.

That is a considerably more detailed decal page but mine had two stripe colours - white or black. There were no seat belt decals and there were no decals for the tires.

It's not the same kit. There are different variations.

    • @Wild-Dad

@@hpiguy oh I figured that - every new iteration of a kit usually has a revised decal sheet.
I was just making a comment that while its the same kit (a 69 Yenko Camaro), that it's interesting that Revell Germany's version has more detailed decals but the US version gave you optional coloured stripes.
Just like the point of what i had also commented on regarding the plastic parts - what was chromed and what wasn't. My US kit had quite a lot of chromed engine parts as opposed to your version which had hardly any.

I only have one question about this kit. am building the same one, and on the decals for the dash it shows the three gauge decal you cut in half but where does it go there's no place to put it.
