Very good video, it helped me to know the birds of that state. I´m struck by the similarity of several species with those in South America where I live. I agree with a comment that a Vermilion Flycatcher is juvenile, it´s seen at 5:12, it´'s a see that is also here, surely at the end of the month the first ones will arrive in my region, which are always the males. I like your channel, I will continue watching

VEFL aren't just the USA and Mexico but extend far into South America too! (and ur female VEFL is actually a juvenile, so cute!!!)

We thought female immature on that one due to lack g any red developing on it but you definitely have more experience with the species

I visited Rattlesnake Springs in December of 2000 on the advice of a park ranger when I said I was looking for birds. It proved worth my while as I remember getting a lifer Black Phoebe and also an ABA lifer Great Kiskadee (rare in NM).

That's awesome! You would think that there would be a bunch of rattlesnakes around with that name though.

Beautiful birds and gorgeous environment! My favourite was the little juvenile Summer Tanager with its mixture of the 2 adult birds' colours. I love that you include footage of your locations as well as the birds. Such a joy. Thankyou!

The Vermilion Flycatcher can also be found, though in small numbers, in Southwestern Utah. Have seen one as far north as Farmington, Utah, which is north of Salt Lake City. Enjoy your videos, gives me places to look forward to go birding.

When I started yo watch the vídeo, I thoug that the Vermilion was the same that we can see in summer, here, un Argentina (we called Churrinche). Are quite similar, I have to find the differences. The specie that I talking about is the Pyricephalus rubinus. I had the chance to saw the male at 2019, and the female I saw a few months ago. Nice birding!

Derek and Ryan I absolutely love the Vermilion flycatcher but I have a nickname for it I called the Ferrari flycatcher obviously for the red coloring after all when you see a Ferrari driving what color are they usually that's right red I thought I'd share that with you guys because when I go over to Arizona as well as New Mexico I'd love to see these beautiful flycatchers thank you for showing them . 😅

That's hard to say. Could be a variety of reasons such as someone else feeding them nearby, or just they have enough natural food around so they don't need to come by as often. If everything is the same I would just wait it out and see. If you feeders are clean and full they should be back at some point soon!

Beautiful birds in New Mexico....drove through there a few times but you guys nailed the birding golden egg. Wish we had some of these in Central Illinois. We used to see wild turkeys from time to time at the local state park and surrounding areas but I think the hunters in the area scared them off along with the deer. Thanks guys!

Who knew there were Turkeys in New Mexico?! That's fascinating. I always think of turkeys as being creatures of the forest for some reason, haha.
I recognize the springs too!! I've got a great pic from a summer (many MANY moons ago haha) when my family visited Carlsbad...none of the signage is in the shot though, so this was really awesome to see an old memory come back to me in that way! SO fantastic that the area seems to be nigh on perfect for the flycatchers, and the Summer Tanager was just spectacular! I've seen one of those during migration, but I gotta admit, they're welcome to come visit here ANY time if they eat wasps...!

Congrats on the lifer Vermilion 🙂🙂
Here in Nor Cal, we really only see a maybe 1 to 3 Vermilion Flycatcher vagrants each year... But I've traveled a couple hours, a few X's and gotten ringer shots of two of them 🙂
So beautiful ! This is one of those birds I'd have a hard time retiring.
BTW, TY for bringing this place to my attention. I've been scouring everyplace in SE Arizona, on eBird.... But kind of neglecting New Mexico. Apparently strong for Painted Bunting 🙂👍
