I remember listening to this track as the opening titles rolled. I was speechless, i wanted to keep listening to the over and over, and i did not want the film to ever begin.
@@EvilScooterKitty-zq5wv I cry when I THINK about this music. Instantly. It’s why I’m listening to it this moment. On a train so everyone must think I’m totally mad.
I used to sneak downstairs at night when I was in high school, lay flat on my face with the headphones over my ears and put on this track and drift away through the sound and get totally lost in it. It was like meditating or the euphoria of a rave. Brings me back.
@@LGranthamsHeir Yes, I agree with you, but while Mr. Carson clearly shows signs of sympathy and affection, Mr. Stevens is more enigmatic, and indecipherable. Our opinion of his behavior is more speculation than certainty. Sometimes I think a cat is more likely to show affection than Mr. Stevens.
Richard Robbins' opening score for this film hypnotizes the audience in similar fashion to Michael Nyman's score for The Piano of the same year. Beautiful
unquestionably one of the most compelling-viewing movies I've ever seen; amazing photography and even more amazing acting by all the cast, with a super musical score
This movie never palls on me and so will be this background music and the brilliant work of crews associated with it. Lovely memories of that bygone era, which could now only be recollected with a heavy sigh. The circumstance which prevented saying and doing things at the right time. At a later stage, filling up with remorse on realizing your inability to go back to the past and set things right. And now with that heavy feelings in the heart, trying to look forward to the remaining future that lies ahead.
The world was rushing headlong into the greatest mass killing in history. The palpable onward rush of events is beyond the control and beyond the comprehension of servants who forsook personal fulfillment for the warmth & protection of existence in a great house. There's a great sense of anticipation in this music by Richard Robbins.
Și film și poveste și interpretare și muzică, toate la superlativ! Un film obligatoriu de văzut în această viață. În singura, pe care o avem, de altfel!
Pity how they cut out the shaving scene where he realities Lord Darlington is a Fascist sympathizer , and the other one where he finally realities his sacrifice and possible wasted life. Lovely music. Was he really in love with her ?

it is the perfect soundtrack to such a sad movie.

So did I.
Sensitive, melancholic, lovely, magical, emotional and touching movie score , heartfeltly composed with longing and conflict.Outstanding.
5 Stars.
Mr. Stevens and Miss Kenton. One of the greatest love stories.
The original inspiration for Mr. Carson & Mrs Hughes 20 years later....

One of the truly great movies, and as luck would have it...one of the truly great scores, too.
Loved this film. One of my favorites of all time.
RIP Richard Robbins, unsung genius of atmosphere and mystery.

The absolute and perfect expression of thwarted love.

You sum up the story perfectly. I read the story four times.
Is it okay if this is a favorite film of all time?
It is perfectly ok. It is my all time favourite - head and shoulders above anything else I've ever seen
The book was amazing as well.
What a masterpiece both the film and the music.

Yes for sure. But even he didn't know it until far too late. The classic repressed English avoidant dutiful man. My dear long gone dad to a tee.
