I remember hearing this song, as a kid, from a movie my mom was watching... And I just remembered the name of the movie, today. This is the first time I'm hearing it again, in over 25 years! I could never get this tune out of my head...
Diese Musik hat mich berührt, verzaubert und sie gehört, genauso wie der Film und seine Darsteller:innen zu meinen absoluten Lieblingsstücken..unbeschreiblich schön...
Fantastic piece!!! You can close your eyes to this and picture Nicole Kidman walk in a beautiful landscape. Tremendously delicate and evocative. A shame that Kilar didn't get more recognition as a composer. One of the best.
This soundtrack was recommended by the guys who ran Movie Boulevard in Leeds..... Absolutely stunning was the comment made and they were right..... Every piece Kilar composed is a masterwork.... This is Academy Award winning music..... Sheer genius.....
I remember Martin Donovan as Ralph Toucette... he spent the whole film coughing up a lung, but I still hoped he’d recover from TB! Nicole Kidman was perfect as Isabel, and Malkovich? He’s awesomely evil lol!
I agree with the comment below that this may be Campion's best film (not to take away from the fantastic "Sweetie" nor from "The Piano", which really only suffered from 1.) having to have its ending changed and 2.) being a bit too over promoted by the critical community somewhat beyond its means); as a fan of James' novel, I have to view the novel and film as almost entirely separate entities, two comments, really, on the same narrative stream. Kidman's Isabel is not James' Isabel (I think even Campion didn't initially have her in mind for the role) as Malkovich's Osmond is not James Osmond (personally I feel Colm Feore would have made the perfect 'Jamesian' Osmond), but no matter, for the film goes its own way, aided in no small part by Kilar's rapturous score.
@@marvinsilverman4394 Leelee Sobieski is Jewish on her mother's side, and her father is of Swiss and Polish ancestry. None of this makes Nicole Kidman a beautiful Polish woman, however. That said, I'm sure the proportion of beautiful women in Poland is much the same as in any country. It's all a matter of personal taste and cultural conditioning.

The term "hauntingly beautiful" was coined just for this song.
Beautiful piece, beautiful movie
RIP Wojciech Kilar
I heard this once in 2001 and it's stayed with me forever. I want it played at my wedding

True! His work on Bram Stoker’s Dracula is also magnificent. A master.
I listen to a wide variety of music and this is one of the most beautiful pieces I've ever heard. Amazing.

I love it when each thing you discover, from a composer you like, is beautiful.
I love a woman so much,...I would gladly die for her.
Beautiful !!!! I would like to go to sleep listening to this and wake up in Medaeval Ireland ca. 1150 AD
Irish music in 1150 AD didn't sound that artful.

There is a Polish song "Szepty i łzy" ("Whispers and tears") from 2001 sung by our popular singer Anna Maria Jopek.
I remember Martin Donovan as Ralph Toucette... he spent the whole film coughing up a lung, but I still hoped he’d recover from TB! Nicole Kidman was perfect as Isabel, and Malkovich? He’s awesomely evil lol!
Malkovich was utterly wrong for that part though A woeful miscasting.
Love...
Atemberaubend berührend und schön
