Here we are, people from different places of our planet, gathering together to listen to this piece of art. Hello from Kazakhstani 18 years old girl who is in love with this music.
I am a 77 year old Japanese. I started learning the violin at the age of 65, and stumbled across the songs I wanted to play most. This "Theme of Yumeji" composed by Mr. Umebayashi is now a song that I want to deliver to those who are lying in bed in the corona, medical doctors who treat it, and everyone who has died of disease. "In the old days, if someone had a secret they didn't want to share... you know what they did?...They went up a mountain, found a tree, carved a hole in it, and whispered the secret into the hole. Then they covered it with mud. And leave the secret there forever."
In the interior of Italy there is a very interesting and beautiful rite of passage for teenages . A young tree has it's trunk split , and the young has to pass through the opened little tree. Then the trunk is tied to heal.

similar theme in an irish folktale. secret whispered to a tree. wood from tree was used to make a harp. and when the harp was played it sang out the secret.. king has donkey's ears.
"He remembers those vanished years. As though looking through a dusty window pane, the past is something he could see, but not touch. And everything he sees is blurred and indistinct. " Such a beautiful movie
This music helped me a lot to go through the depression last year. Very close to my heart now. "Melancholy is the happiness of being sad. - Victor Hugo"
I hope you are better too. It is amazing how music heals our sad times, especially when the music is sad or melancholic. Music validates feelings we have, we feel connected, we know we are not alone. Music is our healing gift from Heaven. Be well.🤗
I'm 75 now and it has taken almost all of my life to find a way to let the depression "work for me" and not against me. None of us humans fulfill all of the potential the Creator puts in us. I used my depression to learn how to feel "Remorse", to honor the higher, finer gifts in life. The Sufis say, "HE heaps it onto the shoulders of the one's HE loves.". Good Luck to a Fellow Traveler.🙏🙏🙏
Your words ring so true, as do those of Victor Hugo.
Here am I an 86 year old woman moved to move to the beat of this exquisite theme as it flows in me, around me, music so sad yet so alive and full of inspiration for the next moment, the next breath, grateful more than can be told that there is such music, such musicians... gracias a Dios
"He remembers those vanished years as though looking through a dusty window pane, the past is something he could see, but not touch, and everything he sees is blurred and indistinct..."
the secret of this kind of music, is in its simplicity, captures your attention, and makes you fly, listen to it with feeling, you will realize that it is talking with your soul Thank You
i play this piece...night after night....on two separate devices. I dont sync them up. I play one for a couple measures then I start the other. For 12 wrenchingly beautiful minutes as one piece falls and rises the other rises and falls in a conversational echo. I feel like Im a part of the conversation. This. Is. Everything. Thank you Shigeru Umebayashi. Deeply humbled and grateful.
If melancholy had a sound, if longing could speak, if the shoulders you cry on had notations, if strings could hold the weight of pain, if vibrations in the air were sad one day, if the definition of hope and defeat had the same language, it would sound like this piece.
Early Night It's raining lightly outside By the window In a dimly lit room Welcome ache of loneliness Resonates through heart Wrapped in the comfort of distant colorful memories
Why is sad beautiful? Why is my heart breaking, but I cannot stop listening? I come back to this every night...like a soul who has departed but calls me to listen to his voice.
So called sad music is actually introspective music, music that allows us to close our eyes and just go with the flow. For once you don't have to wear a social mask, to pretend to be somebody else. This kind of music allows you to free all your feelings from the prison of your cold heart, you can finally go on the quest of your true self, of the purest form of your individuality by just letting all these contradictory, complex yet beautiful emotions merge to have a better understanding of yourself, which is impossible in the outside world ruled by the dictatorship of pragmatism, logic and competition.
Sad can bring the mind to a quiet state and there the deep experience of meditation filters through where the universe is One, not fragmented into many thoughts , desires, anxieties. Then sad has beauty but not because of itself.
I know exactly what you mean. I am stunned at this piece. It's very powerful and seemingly simple with same two beat rhythm in the background. But look at what the music in the fore does. Place pardon me. I have no music training. Just described it as I experienced it. :')
Music transcends everything we call reality, this music is proof that there is something beyond all this...maybe it's magic or maybe it's the almighty itself but i don't care as long as it can make me feel like this. I am glad you discovered this along your way, it would have been criminal if you hadn't. I feel bad for whoever hasn't come across this yet or even seen the movie. I hope you also see the movie 'In the mood for love'....magical movie just like this music.

@Jean Neige sure we need a revolution, but not the one the mafia psychopaths at the power want, civil war and death. I have a solution for you. don't use their paper money and convert your saving in real thing slike gold or silver. then just say NO, I don't play your game anymore, to any stupid authorities like cops or judges. then, organize with your friends a farmers ring to survive until the beast die....
I turned 25 last month and I've been never in love or in a relationship. I am still studying and got so many insecurities and worries for the future. This piece reminds me of all those things in a romantic, cheesy way, yet gives me hope. very paradox. I hope I can come here one day and comment that everything turned out well and it wasn't bad at all in the end. even if I am never gonna know what mutual love means.
In the end, everything will turn out well and it won't be bad at all. Despite all your insecurities and worries, you've got everything it takes to experience mutual love inside of you + the whole universe in front of you.
this found me today, as i am trying to write a summary of an art piece i have been working on for the past weeks. my mind was racing and i stumbled over my words. listening to this and looking at the paintings has calmed me down now. i feel like i am able to focus more through this. additionally, reading all these comments from all over the world is a treat. so many different people, so many different languages, but still we were all here, listening to this song, leaving words behind for others to find. vielen dank dafür und herzliche grüße aus deutschland
Me apaixonei, é um sentimento indescritível. So sei que qdo me dei conta estava chorando, tocou meu ❤
I feel, this is a song for those, that loved someone deeply and had their heart torn from their chest, watched it get trampled on by their love and then picked it back up, all tattered and torn, placed it back in their chest and found another to give it too... I feel hope in this despair. Don’t give in to “ what could have been” heal and try again.
Sublime melancholy and nostalgia of what was and what could have been. Such an excellent soundtrack for an emotive movie. The paintings accompany the music superbly.
"It is a restless moment. She has kept her head lowered... to give him a chance to come closer. But he could not, for lack of courage. She turns and walks away."
@@afinasyahmah4126 ...Alfina, dont be confused. This movie is like a painting. Everyone who gazes upon it, feels aspects of it differently. There is so many layers of emotion, subtleties, pain, joy, solitude and intimacies here, that you will only feel as much as your life experiences allow. Even words cannot describe. It is intimacy on a soulful level. One can conclude that these two met as a result of unfinished love from a thousand lives prior, or as setting the stage for a thousand lives to come.
Whenever i listen to this song, i just imagine a pure childish love between two kids who play and dance together, grow up together loving each other and sharing moments together.. I imagine them in very simple and daily moments that make the difference though when you live them with someone you care and when you live them with laughter, dance and kisses.. The story ends with the death of the one of them and the loyalty of the other person through the difficult times, when they cannot dance together or go for walks together like the old times. Something like that is the reason for someone to be happy, i guess.
I am a violinist and I have to quit every once in a while and listen to everyone else listen very deeply to enjoy it again listen with intent to keep going this is the first thing I've heard to help me do that
I love this piece. Its intense, heady, intoxicating, full of passion + desire + longing in those long notes. The plucking it the background (idk music terms) frames the melody like the corridors and rooms that frame movie. It creates a beat that puts me on edge. Full of anxiety, just like chan and chow question their love for each other.
I've found this piece of art for chance. I was just listening at The stranger song by Leonard Cohen and then, here I am. Such a beauty, such a melody just like a little bittersweet waltz. Thank you Maestro Umebayashi. From Florence, with love.
This is one of these moments when I start loving again. Loving life, loving nature, loving every living being. Something only music can do. A masterpiece of feelings. Thank you for sharing.
0:30, every time I hear that intro I just think/ feel, utter perfection! I've heard several takes on this piece of music but nothing does it like this one, it can't be bettered! Heaven, perfection....
What I like the most about this piece is how it can speak to both the individual and the collective at the same time. In my imagining, I picture in my minds eye all these individual stories of these different people, clips from their different stories, randomly, seemingly unconnected lives and then I see how they all may fit together in a larger story, unwittingly, into this abstract entirety that they themselves go unaware of. There is a lot of contradiction in this song. There is tension and there is flow. There is movement and there is a stifling pressing ticking of the time almost paralyzing from motion. It's a very interesting and thought provoking piece if music. Could be great background music for meditation, study or solving some problem or situation that demands concentration and repetition.
The pain of life , a moment of reflection. So many regrets living inside. So many fears eating at my soul. So many memories that play again in different ways with different outcomes. God i ask you for light and strength, heal me and let me be a child again with no fear and feel the joy that i know is still there.
A masterpiece music that helps you watch realities you fear to think like a movie.
It amazes me every time I listen to music created by Japanese musicians, whether it is a simple solo piano or solo guitar music or music involving an orchestra. Japanese pieces have their own unique feelings in their melodies and so you can just tell if they are from Japan just by listening to them. Very different from European music in terms of immediate sensations, but just as beautiful 👏👏
I mean it's a waltz played on violin and some other string instruments; it's pretty classically European music even if it was written by an Asian composer.
@Philippe Cirse it's incredible. I tried to convey the same exact meaning as yours inside the comment section of another japanese music video and I got the same answers.... I dealt about emotions and they replied from an historical-european point of view. People on social media are actual automatons
It carries me through the moonlit night, through the silver clouds against the dark skies as i marvel at life on earth below. In deep slumber. Dreaming of joys, hopes, loves, for a beautiful tomorrow. ...
Bu melodi eşliğinde penceremden dışarıda bulutların arasından parlayan dolunayı izliyorum. Tarifi imkansız bir ruh dinginliği içinde. Sanki bir rüyanın ya da hayalin içindeymiscesine. 11/02/22 PM:02:15

agree with what you said here. he has good taste
The art , symbolic , almost distantly disturbing. The violin is teaching the depth of my emotions.
This is one of the favourite music of my teacher and he plays this on every lessons.😂
We need this kind of music, to heal our soul from actual psychopathic politiicians, corporations and banksters.
Thank you very true
@Jean Neige sure we need a revolution, but not the one the mafia psychopaths at the power want, civil war and death. I have a solution for you. don't use their paper money and convert your saving in real thing slike gold or silver. then just say NO, I don't play your game anymore, to any stupid authorities like cops or judges. then, organize with your friends a farmers ring to survive until the beast die....
sublime
We all need the gateways back to a place where we once belonged and then move forward again.
Jean Neige your Avatar looks like a fucking Hippie too 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😘
this song is not only beautiful, but perfectly encapsulates the themes of the film
This masterpiece makes my aching soul feel like there is a place to rest…
Beautiful, painful and exquisite - transcending continents, idioms and cultures. A keeper!.
Well said !

Wong Kar Wai's In the mood for love. One of the best movies I've seen. This music contributes a lot to set the tone. Beautiful.
Umarım her şey gönlünüzce olur güzel yavrum 🌹🌹
Time to fall in love
Hug yourself, be kind to yourself and others.
In the end, everything will turn out well and it won't be bad at all. Despite all your insecurities and worries, you've got everything it takes to experience mutual love inside of you + the whole universe in front of you.
Love yourself first. Then you can love another. You will find the right person that loves you too. Sending you love.
Commenting here.. hoping someone will like or comment on it so that I get notification and never loose this masterpiece ❤
Impossível ser perdida.
Commenting. 😊
Merci M. Shigeru Umebayashi.
This is tremendous. Takes me back, to the cities, late nights, travel, where we all want to be. Lives full of surprise and spontaneity, beauty.
Sounds good to me 👍
How is it possible to listen to this lovely music and not fall in love .
Estava aqui pensando a mesma coisa.
Tenho 70 anos.
Meus olhos cheios de lágrimas.
this found me today, as i am trying to write a summary of an art piece i have been working on for the past weeks. my mind was racing and i stumbled over my words. listening to this and looking at the paintings has calmed me down now. i feel like i am able to focus more through this.
additionally, reading all these comments from all over the world is a treat. so many different people, so many different languages, but still we were all here, listening to this song, leaving words behind for others to find. vielen dank dafür und herzliche grüße aus deutschland
Me apaixonei, é um sentimento indescritível.
So sei que qdo me dei conta estava chorando, tocou meu ❤
This is the music of lost love, what could have been.
Thank you so much
I totally agree - searching for a love lost ......
Yes, the finding and the losing...
of a love, sudden, far reaching and golden .
...yet such that it could not last.
That's so sad! 💔
Exact!
"It is a restless moment. She has kept her head lowered... to give him a chance to come closer. But he could not, for lack of courage. She turns and walks away."
Waht a cruel life
I am still confused. Is this what really happens in their relationship? Does the lead leave the woman because he's afraid?
@@afinasyahmah4126 ...Alfina, dont be confused. This movie is like a painting. Everyone who gazes upon it, feels aspects of it differently. There is so many layers of emotion, subtleties, pain, joy, solitude and intimacies here, that you will only feel as much as your life experiences allow. Even words cannot describe. It is intimacy on a soulful level. One can conclude that these two met as a result of unfinished love from a thousand lives prior, or as setting the stage for a thousand lives to come.
I bow before You, sir. Beautiful comment.
@@nom5205this is such a beautiful way of describing the themes of the movie holy shit
I heard you talking about love, so I remembered my love that will never have a beginning ♥️✨
It is sad and at the same time comforting and brings peace to ones mind, and a smile, hope and a view to a brighter future
The idea behind "leaving someone breathless" is to suggest that you impressed them so much they forgot to breath.

Such a nice piece, could life be like this? in a slow motion..
It actually is. We just have to learn to see it from that perspective :)
Inmenso, como la noche. Profundo, como la melancolía. Inolvidable, como la saudade.
Kind of enigmatic and sensual message is hidden in this masterpiece... Nostalgic feeling
Merci

I've found this piece of art for chance. I was just listening at The stranger song by Leonard Cohen and then, here I am.
Such a beauty, such a melody just like a little bittersweet waltz. Thank you Maestro Umebayashi. From Florence, with love.
What a beautiful, beauytiful piece... thank you Pinelopi for its serenity
Thank you so much!
My view is the hood as I lay in the slums listening to the most beautiful strings ever
A very enjoyable 12 minutes and 11 seconds of my life.

How a piece of music can touch your soul and make so many feelings come out strongly... a piece of magic!!!!

You’ve nailed it perfectly with your words and thought
Exatamente.
The feeling of unrequited love, lost love!
All the words unsaid
Buried feelings that hadn’t seen the light
this is what I felt while listening to it
you should watch the movie then ( if you haven't already watched it)

Sad and beauty, I cant think of a more perfect music for these uncertain times.

This music is part of my daily meditation.
I love it. Thank you
What I like the most about this piece is how it can speak to both the individual and the collective at the same time.

The best musicians had been Europeans
I share your feelings. Especially when it comes to the koto.
@@Mariajbh2 So?
I mean it's a waltz played on violin and some other string instruments; it's pretty classically European music even if it was written by an Asian composer.
@Philippe Cirse it's incredible. I tried to convey the same exact meaning as yours inside the comment section of another japanese music video and I got the same answers.... I dealt about emotions and they replied from an historical-european point of view. People on social media are actual automatons
It carries me through the moonlit night, through the silver clouds against the dark skies as i marvel at life on earth below. In deep slumber. Dreaming of joys, hopes, loves, for a beautiful tomorrow. ...
